  • Money ~ Its A Problem

I'm just a lvl 35 Ranger, so bear with me here...

I've already spent at least a quarter of a million gil on my ranger, and I am at a relatively low lvl (exp wise moreso than plain level wise). As it stands, I can go through up to 5 stacks of arrows per level (1500 x 5 = 7500 gil per level). For ten levels, it takes 75000 gil. And As one levels, more exp is needed, thus more fights, thus more arrows. I know that ranger is supposed to be expensive, but this is getting ridiculous fast.

I really wish SE would do something to help us Rangers and the cost of arrow and equipment upkeep. Maybe they could make a RDM buff that allows one to use 'Energy' arrows, that are directly linked to the Redmages MP. At least this would help us on the cost, right?

Anybody else have any ideas as to how SE could cut down the cost of Ranger (in regards to arrows, mainly)?

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Sorry just reading that I wouldn't expect the slightest complaints from you XD
Best bet decreasing the prices of arrows or maybe making them more efficient and less time consuming to create.

Saying this am no Ranger anyway just stuff have heard that are problems.

Methinks you need to level less and farm more 7500 would take like what an hour of farming? I honestly don't mind the price because I like making money as a diversion to leveling, but that's just me.

I can understand the frustration however...

It's getting real old to watch your friends continue leveling while you take an entire day to farm every couple days for arrows and gear.

I've gotten way behind my friends heh...

          On a good day... MAYBE.

It gets extremely annoying when you are in a PT that has everyone ding thrice over, then you have to go farm for 3+ hours. Usually more.

And are you a Ranger? Redmage has much much less cost, so your diversion is negligable compared to Ranger.

Yeh well I'm currently leveling ranger... it's only up to 17 right now but I'm having no problems I'm even making enough money to buy some ill needed gear for my rdm. You say 7500 gil a level... well I make gilfarm about 15k per day :p. Obviously I spend a LOT of my time farming(and "commerce" ); probably more than most ppl. So I could see why most people would be bothered by the cost, especially if all your freinds are all passing you up; I'm just saying for me it's not a big problem... so hate me.

Have you ever wondered how it's possible that one job could be far and away the most damaging in the game, and yet not make the other damage dealers totally obsolete?

              This is why.

RNG is intended to be insanely expensive, as a balancing factor. Gil is the ranger's MP.

                well said!
Beacause ten billion years' time is
                so fragile, so ephemeral...
                it arouses such bittersweet,
                almost heartbreaking fondness.

Took this into account, and i've come to the conclusion that Rangers are TIED, if not below, Mnks and Drks at higher levels in damage over time. Or so i've been told by high lvl Japanese players. So why the insane expense?

Monk's strife: never gets PT invites early on. However, they have very little expenses in way of equipment upkeep

                    Drk's strife: Uh... they are a dime a dozen... and... yeah? Competition? So overplayed -.-;

Also, i've been told that Blm has overtaken rng in the damage department post lvl 71.

                        The thing is...

DRK or DRG or MNK (any other DMG dealer) can do less damage, but it's cheaper. I have a level 17 RNG friend and the hing that bothered him wasn't the arows, it was the price of bows (30k bow at level 10 or something? wow). So you may do 15 less as a DRK compared to a RNG but you won't have to pay as much. (excluding those damn snipers rings the DRKs in my LS complain about)

Almost at 40 now and I realized so far that no, the damage we deal does not outweigh the cost. Ive played with Dragoons and Dark Knights in my level range, and they dont deal much less damage than I deal. I use horn arrows and mith kabobs everytime I'm leveling and like stated, we go through arrows pretty quickly. Our delay is higher than a dragoon and dark knight (if choosing the high damage/high delay weapon). Also we only seem to get a new weapon every 10 levels. From what I've been told by another ranger in my LS, he noticed that we only outdamage the other melees noticeably in the beginning of a level range when we get our new bow. I continue to play ranger despite all the upkeep mainly because it suits my style of play. I enjoy being a ranged fighter.

The only time I've noticed a pretty significant difference was when fighting Seige Bats in Garlaige. From what I've gathered around other boards, it seems bow types are best suited to fight flying creatures. Against the bats with mithkabob/berserk and horn arrows I was dealing 105 while the other melees were in the 60s at best.

I too am becoming annoyed by the constant farming but I don't think square will or should do anything to make it lower. I haven't taken the time to compare but our strength at higher levels probably lies in greater accuracy than other melees as it seems like we can get a substantial amount of +ranged accuracy as we steadily level up.

When talking about whether or not RNG does enough damage compared to the others, keep in mind that if you are a Ranger without Sidewinder/Slugshot, you aren't a Ranger yet.

THF waits for Viper Bite, DRG waits for Pentathrust, DRK waits for Guillotine, RNG waits for Sidewinder.

Just wait till lvl 45 when you can use the elemental arrows you'll see that you do more dmg than a drg or a drk. Or lvl 55 when you get Sidewinder. Also I know that alot of us use bows but if you use a gun the damage you do will be alot more. I mean the lvl 50 bullet (silver I think) does 81 dmg!! I have yet to try it since I never leveled my marksmanship, but I will try it later when I have the money to invest in it.
