  • Complete Noob Questions =)

    Hi everyone,

Bought the game yesterday, spent hours installing it and searching for sites which is where I found this incredible site.

I have some complete noob questions, if someone has patience for me I'd love the help. I was an AC1 Archer Monarch and in one of the top DAOC PvP guilds for all servers (Blackthornes), so I'm looking to make the right decisions from the start if possible. Here are my questions:

    1) I have started as warrior, and I want to be a ranger. If I have read correctly.. I have to level to 30, then do the ranger quest, and then I can be a ranger and discard warrior if I like? I see a lot of posts on what to be with ranger, but how do I get my main leveling in ranger and my sub as warrior?

    2) I started on Sylph, however looking at the IGN Vault boards there are very few posts for this server if you compare to some other servers. Is there a way to find server population? When PvP starts I want to be on a very active server.

    3) What is the best noob/startup guide that I should read right now to get me started?

Thanks for any and all help, your input is greatly appreciated.

Yes, your main job you start with can be leveled to 30, do the ranger quest, then discard the warrior (or sub it) and you will start with a level 1 ranger, but still have your level 30 warrior available for use. You mog house gives you the option to switch main jobs, and also sub jobs but only after you complete the Subjob quest.

My best guess is while your on the server type "/search all" and itll tell you a number of how many people are in the world that are currently online.. i dont know how to find an exact number.. but that works, make friends from other servers though this site and ask them to do the same and tell you the number.. i suppose..

Yosh! N00b questions! ^_^ These are fun!

1)Indeed you very well can. It might even be advantageous to start as warrior since you'll be able to level up your Archery (bows) and Marksmanship (guns and crossbows) levels as a higher level, rather than just starting out completely new. This means you can have all that strength and HP while picking off little critters without much damage to yourself. This will save a lot of time and grief later on (believe me, right now my ranger's giving me heartattacks! ^_^).

Subquests will come at level 18, which will enable you to get subs for your initial jobs (which may include advanced when you unlock them at level 30). I reccomend doing the one in Selbina and then hunting in Valkurm for all the necessary items to give to the subquest NPC.

One you've unlocked the ranger via a quest, you can switch jobs at whim and have Ranger as your main and then WAR or whatever as sub. No penalty for switchin' jobs either.

      3) The best thing I can tell you is to read your manual first. Yea, I know it's kinda boring, but it'll give 'ya what you need. If there's any other little tips that aren't covered by the basics, like say, you need some advice onsome quests or whatever, feel free to check these forums or try Gamefaqs.com

Good luck! Hope to see 'ya out there, fellow-ranger-to-be!

The first thread on this page is one of the most useful things you can read up on info about the ranger job class. Hats off to tongyang for it.

Yeah, it's a great guide, but it needs to be translated fully to reflect the NA version. And some stuff is missing, like there's no mention of camoflauge in the abilities, etc.

There's also a good FAQ some guy posted on Gamefaqs over ranger.
