Yes if i played this game as much as I work i would being using elemental arrows and have +1 rings . But in my life I cant stay here playing FF or being a forum whore . The only way I have ever been denied for a party was either it was full . The only time I have ever been out dmg was by a drk using everything he could to boost his str and attack ; he still missed 50% of the time . Regardless I know on my server I am the 2nd highest NA rng on it . So to me that is a nice accomplishment regardless of what you 'experts' may say

oh and if you spend 1500 to 2k for scorp arrows by the time your my lvl you would have blown 150k to 200k on arrows . SOrry to tell you but later on you got mobs you wont be able to hit . But good luck

There are rangers (NA even) on my server that are higher lvls than you, and I talk to them regularly.

I am only 10 lvls below you (because I take the time to raise subjob, farm for gil, etc), and I usually have a very high hit rate on IT mobs. Don't talk down to me like I am below you, and I know nothing of leveling a mere 10 LEVELS HIGHER. I ask rangers I know about it, and they have no complaints. They ALWAYS use Scorpion Arrows. Forum Whore? I just go to User CP and check the threads I've posted in. I spend maybe 3 minutes a day on the forums, I am willing to bet you spend much more. You are the whore my friend =\

Stop being cheap by lvl 50 you should have emperor hairpin and leaping/winged boots if you a ranger. ALso you need to use scorpion arrows atleast half of the time and half iron, if you don't have the money then start farming and stop playing. I hate when i see a ranger being cheap.

You actions effect everyone who is or will be a ranger. Each ranger with crappy gear gives everyone they group with a tally on the negative side for rangers. Sure you can do what you want, but if you decide to care what happens to others that share ranger as a main job, you'll do what it takes to be the best you can be. And if you make good impressions on people you are more likely to get more group invites for yourself. FFXI servers are no bigger than EQ servers, you will remember people and be remembered by people.

Just stop leveling and farm gil so you can afford the gear you need and arrows for the next few levels. You don't have to do it all at once, alternate in regular intervals. This game is not a race to uberdom like EverQuest, DAiC and the like(not yet at least /cross fingers).

Lol using inadequate gear ; i just listed my current gear only thing i feel im missing is the arrows . Yes I do feel i need better ones but that doesnt mean iron cannot substitute . Well, this conversation certainly degraded to a mere kingergardner level within a matter of a few posts. Why am I not surprised? *shakes head*

However, I agree with both sides on a few certain things. One side says that one should not be cheap when it comes to playing this class called the ranger and max out one's complete potential. Another says some people don't have the time to be uber and one should feel more than at ease to play the game how one wishes.

I can agree with the first idea a very small extent. For instance, I certainly "will not" invite a summoner to my group that has not gotten any of the summons and only uses Carbunkle. To me, this is just absurd. A summoner at lvl 30 should not be spamming carbunkle and cure 2 and thinking they are benefitting the team. There are character classes that would provide a signifcant more amount of support and team play than that. I have made this mistake in the past with letting someone join who was not well built in the summoner and I will never do it again. However, I certainly don't see how missing a small range of damage from lower damaging arrows on the ranger is really "all that significant." The ranger does obscene damage anyway. I'd like someone to point out where a ranger using lower damage arrows would not outdo another class (within reason) and then maybe I'll sway to such an arguement. I currently don't see any in my mind.

The other side of the issue. Alot of people do not have enormous amounts of time to invest in playing this game. (They work, go to school, "have a life," etc.) So, maybe they won't have all the summons, maybe they won't have all the best gear or best ammo. That's fine. I can deal with that. I can make a few exceptions when forming a party.

Nevertheless, it is "absolutely" ridiculous for someone to proclaim that an entire character class is ridiculed and bemused because "they use lower damaging equip." That statement is just simply arrogant. Let's be honest, do people really care about this game that much (or any video game for that matter) where one could build a reputation because of factors one may not be able to control? If people really base such opinions because of such issues, those people are absolutely pathetic. Get a life. No one has time to sit online 24/7 and devote their entire existence to a video game. There's this "thing." It's called "reality." Get ya some.

If anything, my former and preceeding "fellow" posters (no names will be listed) with their rather blatantly sophomoric inventions are the real culprits of "Ranger Class Reputational Suicide." Just look at how arguements have been presented here.

At any rate, I don't find a fault with someone using lower class arrows as ammunition. I'd still invite such a Ranger to my party.

Some parties don't care, some do. Sometimes I like to powerlevel because I spend a lot of time making sure I have the best equipment/weapon possible. Sometimes I like to level up my subs with non-optimal gear. But I always post in my information, 'Using Scorpion Arrows, Optimized Equipment' or 'Using Iron Arrows, Looking for a good time', or 'If you don't like my sword/dagger combo as ninja, you can at least look at my subligar legs'

Remember, this game is based on team play; be a team player and tell people what you can bring to a party.

Sonik amen for some real sense . I've already listed my equipment which I dont consider cheap in the least . But i honestly believe that if you ask some of these rangers , who say you must have the best and nothing else , what their gear is like ; I bet most all fall short of their uber demands . I totally agree that mages should have needed spells (raise cure 3 , refresh .etc)I am not going to say well this person doesnt have dispel so dont let them join . There is just some thins that cannot be bought . What are these rangers going to do when they hit 55 get the Eurytos Bow . LOL I think not , on my server it is a 3 mill. gil bow . You might as well stop playing your ranger for 4 months and do nothing but gil farm to buy it . But honestly is 5 or 9 dmg difference really worth 3-4 times current costs ?

Ghost~ 5-9 Damage Difference? Haha. Iron Arrows compared to scorpion? Don't make me laugh. There is also an accuracy differential, and don't get me started on Sidewinder needing everything it can get. And as for Eurytos' Bow, you really have no idea what you are talking about ~ the vast majority of rangers camp the HNM that drops it with a PT (higher lvl, I believe it is Fafnir). They do NOT buy it. The entirety of the statements you made regarding buying it being asinine is thus void. The fact is, any ranger who is serious about the job WILL try to get it. Using old arrows is like a PLD using a set of old armor, it's ridiculous.

And as for people having 'lives' and not the time to spend farming money on arrows...

It takes 5 hours to farm about 20,000 gil in this game. That is enough to last you two levels in arrows (usually). Farming every other day is sooooooooooooooo time consuming compared to leveling. ...Right. Not an excuse.

Arrow damage is extremely important after 55, specificly with the use of sidewinder. I would say 1/3+ of my overall damage is from
Sidewinder with an average of 1 ws per mob. At 51, the cost of high damage arrows used with sidewinder can be thwarted with the use of Unlimited Shot right before you hit you WS.

LOL the NM that drops the Eurytos Bow is a LV 70 NM and needs a PT around that LVL to kill and it is a rare drop . It is a LVL 55 bow ; what are you going to do camp it . Get real better yet get a life . I can gil farm 20k in 2-3 hours but I still dont see the use for tripling my cost for something I can do for cheaper . Last 4 hrs I was hunting Lichs for papyrus . Yes arrows arent the best against undead . Just for kicks I brought 2 stacks of fire arrows and 1 stack of iron . 8-10 dmg difference between the 2 . 99 iron = 800 gil 99 fire arrows = 4k . You being ranger god to FFXI = priceless . Let me guess your going to start knocking Jujube or am I going to get more remarks from you ?
Why dont you give me your current gear so I can see what I should be . Or let me guess you dont have the "best" gear ?
