If you are beyond lvl 30, you should not be using Bone arrows as a normal munition. That's just ridiculous.

For instance, I use Horn Arrows. They give 19 DMG and +5 Ranged Accuracy. I pay 1400 PER STACK. Not 300, not 500. If I can afford to use DECENT EQUIPMENT, you can.

Also, if I happen to see any RNGs my level using Wooden/Bone/Iron arrows, I will laugh at them until they run into their little cheapass caves.

Ranger is one of the more expensive classes and some people think that using lower quality arrows makes up for not having money? It's like telling a 30 war to use an Onion sword.

if you cant afford to use the best arrows you can use at your level then to be honest you should choose another job.
if you cant afford the best arrows i dont see how you are gonna be able to afford the +1 bows
people using cheap gear in party's really make rangers look bad.
everyone will be thinking that all rangers barely ever hit there target.

Where do you get these Horn Arrows for 1400 a stack? And they're only 17 DMG last I checked in AH but the accuracy would be nice.

I get my Arrows from San d'Oria, its the only nation with a carpentry guild, so all the arrow synthers usually live there. The Horn Arrows usually range from 1300-1500 gil in price per stack, while silver (19 damage, but no Rng Acc increase) are over 2k per stack. Whatever you do, DONT BUY IN JEUNO!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha okay, thanks for the heads up. I was looking at them in Jeuno, I'll have to make a trip out to the other nations to compare prices. Hopefully they are as reasonable on my server (Caitsith) as they are on yours. I wouldn't mind dishing out that much for them.

Level 38 and switching to Iron (Which is 700 a stack) thats crazy Ive been using them since level 20, if you dont have the money farm.. its not hard just invest 2 hours and you can buy enough arrows to last a few levels. And you use your dagger? The reason your a ranger is for the dmg, kill those easy monsters quicker (I dont know why any group would take on anything less than VT .. I prefer to fight IT's only)

This is a little extreme in my opinion, but he's mostly right. Comparing bows and arrows doesn't quite work however. For instance I just made 30 recently and after buying a great bow +1 (40k) and selling my old power bow +1 (30k) it only cost me 10k. Horn arrows on my server cost 2k a stack at 17 damage. Beetle arrows are 1k a stack at 12 damage and same delay/accuracy as Horn. Great bow +1 is 13 more damage and 3 more ranged attack than Power+1. So for 10k spent on a new bow you gain 13 damage and 3 ratk whereas 10k spent on horn vs beetle nets you 5 damage, and that only for 10 stacks. Again, this is for prices on my server right now.

I still have about 7 stacks of beetle arrows left, so I'm going to use them, then switch to horn when those are gone. I think that's a reasonable sacrifice for the cost savings. I think it would be difficult to justify using anything less than beetle in an xp group at my level though.

Note that I don't think sacrificing accuracy is nearly as justifiable as sacrificing damage. We miss often enough as it is. I'd rather hit as much as I can, even if it's for a few points less, if I have to scrimp that is.

I thought of that, and I just might, depends on where I am and what I'm doing. =)

But it doesn't change the fact that bows are, gil for gil, a better upgrade than arrows, which is what I was trying to get at. =) For my level and server economy anyway. Either way, it pays to shop around, take note of prices and think about what each expentidure gets you, and that applies to any job. Heck, it applies to RL too.

I have money and everything for current arrows, but I find it very cost ineffective using the most current arrows when I burn through 8-10 stacks a xp session. I fight VT/IT stuff only as well.

I'm more concerned about armor and weapons then about ammo. The only ammo I keep current is a stack of bullets with a current gun to use in an emergency situation, like a double IT pull or NM killing.

I really don't see the point of spending twice or triple the amount for normal killing when it only adds a few extra damage (assuming I don't miss). I can see it for fighting any sort of NMs, since every little point will help on those, but for regular sessions, no.

currently lvling i find that Yes i am burning through a lot of gil because u just cant sell back arrows:sweat: but i think that EVERY ranger should at least be using iron arrows the second ur able to, they only cost 700 gold !

Most of my battling i currently carry about 4 stacks of iron and 3 stacks of horn arrows and i macro my equip and keep switching arrows if im going to do barrage or a WS, that way u wont burn through THAT much gil

Still, my opinion is that if a Ranger isn't using the best Ammo he or she can, he or she is slacking off. =) I've yet to see a lv40rng use Iron Arrows, and if I did i'd bust a vein.

I use iron arrows have been for awhile . I consider them to be the lowest arrows for a rng of my lvl to use . were i would like to use scorpion arrows or elementals it is too expensive . To get one level at my lvl costs about 8k just for iron arrows ; with 300k invested in equipment alone that gets insanely expensive . Besides I would never look down on any ranger . I know people who have quit the job from lacks of funds . Use what you can and dont worry about the haters.

Its not about being a 'hater' dude. I have said it plenty of times, but I will say it once more: No one wants to pick up the slack for a sucky party member. Would you want to PT with a lvl 30 whm that has no Raise or Cure 3?? Wouldnt you consider it unfair to invest plenty of time to get all the good stuff your char needs, only to end up partying with half-assed characters??

All jobs require gil, period. Only that RNG and NIN require a lot more than most.
