But I'd like it answered in my context ^ ^
Is ranger a pain in the ass to play? Alright, I started a RNG two days ago, and at first I loved it, it was the coolest class ever, wide scan is awesome, killing things from afar is excellent, but then I started to miss... a lot, and die... a lot, and totally WHIP through arrows. (trying to conserve, too, by using a shot, one or two knife slashes, a shot, etc.)
Needless to say I'm losing faith in this class. I WANT to be a ranger, and wield that big bow and do that big damage, but just what is it going to take? Just HOW much money are we talking? It's taken me four stacks at 800 to get from levels 1-7, and I'm beginning to doubt the future.
I have a thief at 15, and a monk at 30, so I can easily silk for 12k gil in a few hours, but that's only 1200 wooden/bone arrows, and that seems like a lot, but now that I've been out in the field I'm beginning to realize just how little that is. I was, however, pleased to find level 40-ish arrows only at 1500 a stack, which isn't too much worse. But still, I don't want to be on some adventure and have to say 'Oh, jeez, guys, I can't play, I've got to go back to Windurst and farm cash for a few hours.'
Are the early levels in ranger simply that bad? Does it get better? Will I be wasting my time if I try to make a go of it? I hope I can. It just pissed me off a little bit when my samurai almost never misses a bow shot, and my ranger is missing every two or three. Of course, a ranger has a little knife that it swings like a granny and a sam has a great katana with that whole master swordsman thing going on. And the AF armor is just dumb, please, I don't think the pothead beret is very impressive, you know? And no JSE... rangers need some nice dark sniper's cloaks or something. Oh yeah.
I'm not trying to come off whiny, or as a 'I want everything for free and do nothing guy,' I just don't want to get myself into a hole I'll be too tired to dig myself out of.
