I don't have ffxi yet...since i must wait til it comes to the ps2. But my friend has the game and bought the strategy guide today. In the guide it says that mithra are the usual choice and then it said that galka was a "solid choice". By what i took in it seems that mithra and galka are the two best choices for race of ranger (according to the strategy guide). Is this correct? I havent seen in topics about galka rangers

Galka has the second lowest AGI stat(Elvaan being the lowest).
The 2 highest AGI races are Mithra(1st) and Taru Taru(2nd)
AGI=ranged accuracy STR=ranged damage
AGI is the most important stat for a ranger, because accuracy is very very important.
The biggest difference in the AGI stat from the lowest AGI race to the highest AGI race is only 16AGI, I heard. 2AGI=1 ranged accuracy, so basically mithra have +8 ranged accuracy over the lowest AGI race.
I am a level 30 Galka Ranger and I have +30(+40 w/ninja sub) ranged accuracy from my equipment. I have more STR, VIT and HP than a mithra. In later levels I bet I could have around +50 ranged accuracy from equipment. SO Mithra would have +6(a guess, I don't know exact level 75 agi stats) ranged accuracy more than me. I don't see that being a huge difference.
Long story short, all the races are fairly well balanced with equipment when it comes to rangers. Pick what looks good to you.

Thanks for the info lightning...it really helped me a lot. I think im gonna go galka and just make up for the agility with equipment :D. By the way...as being a galka ranger at lvl 30...how accurate are your shots?Comment

Accuracy was horrible 1-27! I always had the best accuracy rings for my level and a few +1 agi items on, my accuracy was still bad. Fighting IT monsters I would be able to land maybe 1-2 shots Also, I could never land a WS without sharpshot!
I'm not sure if all other rangers had the same problem?
Once you hit 28 you can use an Archer's Dagger (+10 ranged accuracy +1 agi). That made a big difference in my accuracy. At level 30 I got the second Accuracy up trait, now I don't miss much at all and with barrage and berserk(I sub warrior) I do some crazy damage.
Ranger is worth it when you hit level 30.Comment

Na, i dont miss a ton. Mithra ranger, havent had time to get ninja for dual wielding. But still i dont miss alot. If u have the right equipment you will be fine. Fore example i have hunters bow or w/e now. If you gil farm and get all of the best equipment everhting should be ok. My bow costs 30k alone. I say gil farm for 1 week or 2 maybe and you should be set.Comment
