mithra with kickanus equip vs. HNM

OK i really wanna be a rng but i also wanna beat ass all around not letting my taru blm best friend do more dmg than me...
so with the right equip being mithra and mayb subbing nin or something could i hunt HNM's

Rangers have a major issue with accuracy against HNMs, so if you wanna hunt those, go DRK.
High level DRKs even got their accuracy improved in the latest patch >.< Don't take me wrong though, DRKs also miss the HNMs, but not as much.

unless you have a set PT, i can almost guarentee it'll take you a WHOLE lot longer to reach lv60 as a drk than it will as a rng, probably a lot lot longer, now I'm sure there's loads of NA DRKs running around.

Then again I'm not really taking into account gil-farming time :/ maybe it'll even out.

yeah took me about 5 months to get to fricken 50 -.- <-- has no set PT and reading menus in JPN..and i dont have gimp equip also.. took a few weeks to farm for that dam valkyries mask, but it was worth it.

Don't remember the abbreviation exactly something like Horrible Named Monster or something. It's basically a special monster with a huge amount of HP that'll drop special items.

If the only reason you will play RNG is for HNM then you should not be RNG.

I didn't sense all that much difference in range accuracy after the patch.

And yes, if you want to fight HNMs, don't be a ranger.

Serious question as I'm a level 20 Ranger and don't really know anything about the "end-game" content. If there's nothing for a Ranger to do at 75 why bother?

I dont get this inability to fight HNM's. Rangers have the most +accuracy items in the game, how can we not hit these things? And why can others?

You don't have to fight the HNMs. They're like the "Omega weapons/Ultima weapons" in the game. They drop extremely rare equipments or guilding items, which some of them can be gotten by fighting the kindred(god-coin) BCNM battles.

If you want to fight HNMs, you can always level up another job to high level that is good for those fights. You aren't limited in leveling one high level job.

The reason about why rangers are not good for HNMs:

- Accuracy. It's not that other jobs can hit HNMs as well either. The HNMs rangers can't hit, the other melee jobs have a hard time hitting either. But the problem is that most other jobs have means of hitting the HNM: Thief's sneak attack has 100% accuracy if done perfectly. The Spirit Within WS also has 100% hit rate. There is no such thing as a sure-hit range attack.

- Hate control. Even if, with luck, you hit the HNM, hate control is going to be a nightmare because your damage would be out of wack with the gradual damage given by other melees. The HNM has to be controlled so that its movements are predictable.

Anyway, HNMs aren't the only thing you can do at high level. There are many things which a ranger is good at in high levels. Specifically, high level zilart missions, rangers are very useful in the boss battles.
