  • Prepare your gear, dont forget about it

I have seen way too many NA rangers just spitting out arrows apon arrows... complaining about missing, complaining that the dmg they are expected to do takes so many arrows... All true.

Yet i look at these rangers.. some being in their 30's.. and their gear is quite sad.

I see all this +1 agility here and there.. Where is all the +ranged Accuracy? The +ranged attack? Why do you think the items with the +attack is 4million and not +str? Or the +agility vs +ranged accuracy...

There is a reason <beyond bragging points or fashion> these have a difference in price... its called effectiveness for the slot taken.

With the right gear.. bought before you become a ranger in preparation of the many levels to come.. you can lead a rather easy life for quite some time.

Dont forgo every single but of everything else just for your attacks to hit.. You want to survive the attacks that hit you too. Theres very very nice +defense gear that give great bonuses to agility and ranged accuracy or attack in the 30's.. due invest. I know the Mercenary Captain stuff looks good with the +agility on most peices.. but all and all i am seeing too many rangers dropping like flies, giving up, and upset because they just didnt take the time to think outside of the box.

You dont need ninja till 70rng in my opinion.. blink is a insane skill to have, but slapping 2 archer daggers on is a simple fix but it hurts your effectiveness on so many fronts. Samurai will be the most insane for total damage output but your gonna take alot of damage back... why many dont use it cause its TOO STRONG. Maybe you think i am a idiot... maybe... but far as these job combination discussions...

    Rng/Ninja
Use this at level 70+ranger main for blink, it will make the whm love you more. Yet remember less your good enough to do enough dmg to bring all this on you.. you wont need blink. So this depends on how active you are, your gear, and effectiveness in the job.....Not just a slap slap there you go...

    Rng/Warrior
Good for lower levels and heading up the long road to high level. I think for the average ranger would be good cause it helps defense and attack without too much need to be precise in your work.

    Rng/thief
Damn good combination with thief at level 15. Thats for farming. You can level more to add morebonuses and such, but mostly all i ever use a thief for is 15 sub for making items/money. This will help you become self sufficient if you do your own crafts especially. I suggest every ranger have a trusty level 15 thief to keep your supplies high without spending all your gil.

    Rng/Sam
The damage output from the multiple Weapon skills is so insane i been told my level 65-70 players its sometimes too strong. This is because you can do all the dmg you want.. but if you die over and over you done no real good. I would suggest if you plan to use this combination that you will need the most money. High potions +1 and plenty of arrows. Once again i woudlnt do this till higher levels.. seems like too much of a hastle earlier for little gain.

    its 7am.. sorry for rambling..

    Also....last thing..

Elvaan make very effective rangers, nothing wrong with them AT ALL... just get them high enough for the +ranged accuracy bonus.. then your good.

    Quick questions

Doesn't STR raise your physical and ranged attack?
Also AGI raises your ranged accuracy and evade rate no?

So why is the STR and AGI items bad? Would ranged accuracy+3 item be better than a agi+3 item? Or how bout a str+3 item versus a ranged attack+3 item?

Well I'm not for certain on this one....But...I'll give it a shot.

Yes STR and AGI do what you have said they do, as far as I remember/know. BUT, regardless of that, it takes (as far as I know) ranged accuracy+2 to = AGI+1. That being said...AGI+2 are very expensive, but also are +attack/ranged, and when you do find items with ranged accuracy/attack on them. They normally aren't just +1, or +2...they are like +4 or so...

So as far as I can see, it's better to have the +ranged than the +AGI because it is more effective.

Hope that made sense...and Hope it was right.

Last night I finally got me a Hunters Longbow, which is so good it almost seems like a requirement at level 12.

My question is this... Currently at < 15, I don't have very much in the way of range accuracy and AGI up stuff... what kind of gear can I look for in this level range?

I already have the Hunters Longbow, and of course have the Ranger's Necklace. I have a Tammourline Ring (or whatever the one that gives +1 Agi is) and should be getting a Beestinger soon. I also noticed the San D'orian Headband gives +1 Agi along with some HP.

Is there anything else I can look into? I would love to get some Range Accuracy equipment instead of AGI up... I just don't know what to find.

          Thanks!

I hate the beestinger, sophie doesn't even pop for me -_-

Anyway, this kind of pertains to the subject, how do RNGs make money? As a THF I kill crawlers for stacks of silk that go for around 10k (very nice) but I was wondering what RNGs do since they need a lot (I want to play RNG once I can actually get a party and get to 30) and just wanted to know how to get so much money to survive as a Ranger.

              Munki:

At level 16, you can get Bone Ring+1 which is (-2 accuracy +3ranged accuracy). From what I have noticed, there isn't much ranged accuracy and attack+ items at the low levels, but seems to be more once you get to 21+.

I leveled up my bow/grossbow tonight

2 stacks to get my skill to 10 with a bow and 1 stack to get my skill to 4 with a crossbow. It was fun though, I did what Emilee said and only used my bow (I was only hunting silk though), I was gil farming in Giddeus ealier today so I had money for it (was only like 2k).

Much respect for RNGs (I really want to be one now) _(._.)_

I was thinking....I read the subs and i was thinking since AGI effects damage and accuracy, would my THF be good for this? I read that they are only good for the TH ability and to use WAR, but the AGI boost would be beter wouldnt it? Or would it be so small that the WAR sub is better? I have both WAR and THF built so whatever you say i'll go with ^^

                      Just got it....

Though it is acually good for those who know what to get not to tell the masses.. cause it will drive up demand...means drive up costs.... but...

how much cash do you think you need to spent to hasve +30 Ranged accuracy at level 34? Maybe closer to +40?

                      +40agility=20ranged accuracy
                      +40ranged accuracy=80agility

Not quite... i tested and i think the % isnt clean as cut.. but its very apprent +ranged accuracy is the way to go. WHY else would a Elvaan same level as a mithra tonight in quflim island hit just as much as his elvaan fanged comrade?

                      I have 23agility with +11 ranged accuracy

She has 32 Agility +7 Ranged Accuracy.

IF we did the cut it be..

                      Me: 23-24 Ranged Accuracy
                      Her: 23 Ranged Accuracy

Means at most i had .5 more accuracy than her. So that would explain why we hit about same rate. Course she had spent all this money on +1agility gear, i didnt, i spent 500 on 2 bone rings. She had + attack earrings <not ranged>... she hit less than me.

I may sound like an ass and maybe i am but its healthy advise. IF being effective was as easy as chooseing the race with the best agility i would say ranger is both a gimp and failed class. I hear people putting down elvaan rangers the most, i find that ignorant.

Remember.. Everything at some point becomes trivial. If you need +50ranged accuracy total to hit every time.... someone who has +100 int gonna do any better, that was a example btw.

Those out there that fear because your a galka, or a hume, or a elvaan you cant be a kicking ranger.. dont worry and go ahead and play.

Also some advise... IT monsters the fastest way to build up your skills. You may miss alittle but when you do hit your gonna raise your archery/marksmanship. No one ever kept maxed fighting easy monsters now.

Far as worms.. i hear questions... heres answers..

Stay ar the farthest lengh away, shoot the arrow and move back. Youcan be so far back and the worm will keep casting but wont hit you <you will get used to it>. Trick is to when it starts to cast a spell and it dosent hit you, run up fire.. run back.. Cat and mouse will annoy you yes, but you cant beat EXP chaining 3 worms for over 700EXP total when you do EXP chain 1-3#.

Your gonna take damage, your gonna die sometimes... part of the great EXP. Worms cast stonega.. it does and will hurt. Bind is bad and when it happens open a can on the worm and hope you come out alive. You cant get rid of rasp with antitode so dont try, bring instead some potions in case your hp gets too far down.

                      Have a fun day

Even better, group with a BLM/WHM (or 2) who can Barstonra the group, and even heal if need be.

If you each pick a worm, and time the kills around the same time, you can really make quite a bit of xp with chains.

As for equip, unless you really go gung-ho on equip pre-lvl30, your accuracy will never really be top notch. HQ bows (+1 bows), rings, earrings, and so on are very nice, but the real change is 30+ when we get another passive ranged accuracy up, barrage, a new bow, new armor, archer's dagger(s) (at 28), drone earrings (at 33 I think it is), and so on.

But until 30, Bone Rings (+1 if you can), Ranger's Necklace, and a Hunter's or Power+1 bow works fine.
