    question

what's your play style yum yum? what roles do you want to fill in a party? answering this would help us to easily decide how good that combo will be for you.

Yeah shaunathan is right. It depends what you want to be doing as a Ranger.

But..from a general standpoint. There are a few better combos than that. If you go RNG/RDM, it doesn't give a very good dex bonus, if any. The attack that /RDM gives is nothing, and a Ranger shouldn't really be casting spells on stuff, because that tends to create hate.

So overall, I'd have to disagree with this combo, but it all depends on what YOU want to do.

        I really enjoy my Ench/Arch in AC2 (basically a buffer+ranger).
In PT mode, I usualy buff everyone, stay back and deal big damage with aim shoot. In single mode, I debuff the mobs to death and start shooting. A RNG/RDM combo seesm to be as close as I will ever get in FFXI.

        Thanks

          *nod*

if you wanna cast debuffs as well as heal this sounds like a good subjob for you. though I don't know what level RDM get's debuff spells.

I've tried ranger (to lvl 13) and Rad Mage is my main (not a typo), and I think this will be an awkward, but workable combo.

As a ranger, you want to buy lots of equipment that ups your dex, agi, and maybe str.

But subbing a mage on a main means you'll probably need MP+ items instead to have respectable mp.

The good thing is, many debuffs are low lvl enough that they don't cost much MP (blind, dia, paralyze).

I'm not sure if En- Spells (rdm lvl 16-24) work on ranged attacks, but if they did that would be nice.

Overall, some people in your parties will wonder why you subbed rdm, but your damage should be high enough that they don't care enough to say anything.

If you want to be a buffing ranger, My suggestion would be Ranger/Bard.

at lv 21 rdm's get a spell called gravity, which lowers a monsters run speed, could be nice for bow kiting stuff. altho subbing a job for one spell might be seen as wastefull

Spells like Stoneskin, Blink and Phalanx might give your Ranger a huge defense boost. But yeah you'll do less dmg then subbing other classes.

If you want to be a debuffing ranger, you'd actually do a much, much better job at it by using venom, acid, bloody, holy, sleep, and blind bolts. I know there are also poison arrows, just because I was recently told to make them.

Your enfeebling magic will be the same level as your SUB red mage, so even if maxed it will be half of your main level's potential. At mid-higher levels none of your enfeebles will land on the monster. This is why it's better to have player-buffing abilities if you want to be a support RNG... the monster-debuffing abilities will rarely land and be a waste of MP/time.

LOL If you're talking to me, notice how all those ways of enfeebling are through arrows? They take no magic at all. They work very well.
