  • Rangers and Equipment

I hate to say this, but for the love of god if you can't afford good gear then don't play RNG. It just makes all of the decent RNGs look bad >.<

There is a large misconception from many players that RNG is a weak class, most people who have played the class with decent proficiency recognize the fact that RNG has the potential to be a strong melee force. I blame this misconception on many of these new RNGs I see popping up who use pathetic gear >.<

When I have PTs as a WHM or BLM and I bring in RNGs who deal less damage than warriors, or hit maybe once or twice in a fight it is an embarrassment to the class.

I myself am starting RNG now and have saved up 300k just to devote to good gear.

If you want to be useful then please get:

a)appropriate bows which include the +1 for the level or a unique
    (Hunters Longbow @ 12, Power Bow +1 @ 16 etc)

b)all the + ranged accuracy possible
(Bone ring +1, Beetle Ring +1 etc)

c)+AGI if you can afford it, obviously not everyone will have Leaping Boots
(CP gear, Martial Slacks, Appropriate Earrings etc)

Sorry for my rant, but I just had seen enough poor RNG who propagate this idea that RNG are weak.

good post. i agree. but a little off topic, have you seen the ranger's jse armor? the ranger af armor is great and all, but honestly that was one of the main sticking points for me aginst becoming a ranger. thats a horrible looking af, sorry to all rangers that have it, no offense. hopefully the jse will make you guys look like the badasses you are supposed to look like.

    my 2 cents

I don't really understand the purpose of this post.

The Ranger class is hardly on it's own when it comes to bad players. I've only had the privilidge of playing with a Ranger once, and he had about the best equipment as possible at Lvl 28. I'm sure there are crappy Rangers, but there's crappy warriors, dark nights, samuari's, mages, etc.

Now, did you make a post in every single job forum saying warriors needed to keep up with armor, or mages with spells?

No, because if you actually played the game often enough you'd realize that RNGs are one of the most equipment sensitive jobs if not the most. I brought a special concern for RNGs to the forefront, however people like yourself who haven't even played a variety of jobs can't aknowledge this fact. I have played RNG to 30 in beta, and tried several melee jobs and there is a difference in equipment dependency.

I assume you posted that because of a lack of experience.

If you have anything useful to add to the discussion then please feel free to do so.

I'm going to ignore your blantant insult, and just reply to your message.

Duh! Of course Rangers are uber-sensitive to their equipment. So is every single melee class in the game; the difference is just in price. And DUH! Of course you're going to suck as a ranger if you don't keep up with equipment.

No other class is dependent on equipment? What about a warrior or paladin that needs to buy new armor every couple levels; or mages that have to buy spells every few levels. I'm not saying these cost anywhere near a Ranger's cost, but a Ranger is hardly alone in dependecy on equipment.

I do agree with you that you NEED to keep up with equipment. However, it's still fairly early in the EN game; when I'm curious, I rarely see more than a few EN Rangers on. I obviously haven't been in a PT as a Ranger since the EN release, so maybe it is bad! But it seems a bit early to say the EN Rangers aren't playing the class right.

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with Surfer here.

Ranger is probably the MOST equipment sensitive class. I mean take for example a ranger with crappy gear vs. a ranger with +agi/+ranged acc gear..the difference is astounding in terms of hit rate and damage. If you look at another class with the same gap in gear, the difference won't be as clear.

I think the problem is that without all the gears that add to accuracy and attack, rangers will miss a LOT more and do less damage when they do connect..this is what gives rangers a bad name, level 20s running around with a power bow and stone arrows..

I don't know if you have comprehension issues, but the point I made is that they are one of the most equipment sensitive jobs therefore this issue pertains to them more than other jobs.

Compare a level 18 PLD with all Scale Gear and a level 18 RNG usijng San D'Orias 1k CP Bow, all level 10 equipment. Tell me who is performing their job less effectively? Both jobs have missed equipment upgrades. I doubt you can answer this question anyways.

Or maybe you're having the issues.

I've AGREED with you. Your original post seemed unnecessary (I have a hard time believing anyone who visits this site and plays Ranger will play poorly) and has already been said many times before.

I simply added that I believe other classes are just as dependant. Although obviously it's not "equipment," a mage has to constantly pay for new spells every few levels. Is it as bas as a Ranger? of course not...but that was never the point.
