It doesn't sound to me that Niexist is trying to play RNG poorly at all. He is working hard in making money to support the job. I can respect that.

What some of the advices said are true, in that:

    - Having a lv50+ job to make money to support the job is nice, because money is easier to come by. It is not necessary, although it will save you time.

    - You should always have good equipments. This is good, but you do not have to have the absolute best equipments to be a decent ranger. What I consider necessary:

    HQ bows
    HQ range accuracy rings
decent arrows (up to scorpion arrows)

    What I consider not necessary:

NM items (e-bow, VE wings, leaping boots, amemet mant)
    high level arrows (demon arrow)

    ---

Anyway, your complaint about RNG's money cost is valid, but unfortunately this is how a RNG's life is.

Thanks for the reply Tongyang, right now I'm trying to conserve money by being sort of stingy with arrows to get gear. Still using bone arrows, but that is the best I can get.

      My new ranger questions >_<

1)Where are the worm class monsters to hunt that are stronger than rock eaters in la theine, but weaker than the ones on qufim.

2)are the gains to str/dex equivalent to the gains in ranged accuracy/ranged attack? ie 1 str=1 ranged attack

3)Why is farming money as just a lvl 30 thief inefficient?

4)What gear are the absolute necessities at lvl 16 (not there yet) so far this is what I've come up with..

      i)powerbow+1
ii)2 of those ranged accuracy rings
      iii)ranger necklace
      iv)head thing with agi+1

That's about all for now, I'll post more questions as they come up.
      Cry more n00b!!!!!!!!!!!

        1) shakrami - you can get there from taronghi canyon, or mhaura - you can solo here from about 16-22 - the entrance is quite close to the crag, so get a teleport there if you can.

        2) not quite sure, i think 2 AGI = 1 range acc. but this is just going off similar stats (dex ~ accuracy, str ~ attack)

        3) it's not. it's just harder than using a higher lv character - my 26thf farms gil for my ranger character.

        4) you're right, minus the head thing - it's not a _neccesity_ - the 3 previous ones are - anything else that can raise AGI and STR is great, but not a _neccesity_.

i know i'm quite late in this but back on the first page u had a dilemma with your money and arrows

well what i did was i get the best bow/gun i can and then use the cheapest arrows possible except for bosses. that works great because the arrow itself doesnt make as much of a difference as the bow damage.

i would like to be a ranger, but not as my first advanced job. raner would be my favorite advanced job, but struggling to be a good ranger is not my idea of fun. i will be lvling up a dark knight or a samurai and getting my gil way up there, and learning the game more. once i have enough gil, and i get one advanced job to lvl 40-50, i will be lvling a ranger.

thats a good idea but i'm just gonna struggle with ranger till about 30 and then go to ninja to get that to about 35 and then switch back to ranger to finish it off.

How do you farm gil? Do you mean you just kill monsters and sell stuff to farm gil?

a good way to farm gil in ghelsba is to get a job you're not going to raise to lv12, a job that deals high melee damage (works with NIN too), but DRK and classes like that - at lv12 they can usually kill raku orcs in 1 hit, but they still drop fire crystals. you can quickly get a stack of fire crystals which sell for 2.5~3k at AH. you do this for an hour and you get lots of crystals. Problem is when your character reaches lv13 those weak orcs become too weak and stop dropping fire crystals.
Also, I use to do this before NA release, not tried it since, and ghelsba is always full these days, so it might not work anymore....

The problem is that too many people have started discovering this, and the price for fire crystal stacks has plummeted. On Gilgamesh, in San, the price is down to around 1.5k as of yesterday. That's still not terrible, but it's not as great for making money as it used to be.

its horrible on unicorn. theres over 50 people selling crystals of each kind and everything. the price is sooo low and even though you can make a small profit over vendor prices not enough people really buy them...

just some advice, crafting ur own ammo cuts ur cost in half. lvl16 wood working u can make a ton of stuff. Also post 35 i think Xbow is better. dont do gun, guns are for hnm/gods.

I played WHM to 65+ before I ever even did the quest for RNG, Im glad I did. WHM is, or was for my generation of players >.>, an expensive class (Having 1.25 mil in 3 spells alone is...ludicrous). The reason people say that you need a 50+ job first to play RNG is that, the higher you are, the more options for farming are available and the more efficient they are. Farming at 70+ is A LOT different from farming 50-70 is A LOT different than farming 20-50 is A LOT different than farming 1-20. With few exceptions, the methods of farming available to you at L30 are still available at 75...its just, well, there are much better ways. The reverse is not true.
When I started RNG I promised myself a few things...1) I would never gimp my WHM in order to play RNG. I have never sold WHM equip to buy RNG things nor have I put off buying anything for it for the sake of RNG things. 2) I would never gimp my RNG. If I can not afford what is needed to continue the class, I simply store my stuff and wait until I can. At low 50s, I am spending 60-120k per XP Pt to level RNG, depending on if Im in a gun mood or a bow mood (and if there are bodkin arrows or silver bullets up for sale or not) and how long it lasts. Do I feel I have to do that? No. Do I think it makes me a better RNG? Not enough to justify the cost... So why? Because I like throwing large sums of money at a mob to make it die. I started RNG because I had a bunch of gil and quite literally nothing more I could buy for WHM within reason... We all need our extravagances in life, RNG is mine. I do not, and could not, level it every day...2-3 times a week at best.
IMO the prioritization of RNG expenses is:
Getting any ammo > Getting updated Bow > Getting HQ Bow > Getting good armour type equips > Getting "good ammo" (best ammo available under ~4k/stack) > shihei > food > things like LL Boots, Hairpin, hawkers, etc > high end ammo (stuffs over 4k/stack) > high end equips (EBow, peacock charm, hawkers+1, etc).
                              My personal opinion is that if you cant cover everything through "food" on that list, then you ought be farming not XPing. And if you are buying something like EBow...you damn well better not be using wooden arrows. Peacock charm is the last thing I will ever buy for RNG, I like the RAttack on Rangers Necklace more than the extra RAcc...Ranged Attack items are much harder to come by than Ranged Accuracy ones. Even if I had it, Id only use it in rare situations. Somewhere between high end ammo and high end equips is where I draw the line between it being fun to blow money and it being frustrating feeling I have to get so much stuff for a game. If you feel that line comes before...oh...food...Then please give up RNG and play BRD >.>;
