  • is worth to be a ranger

ok, i want ot be a ranger so bad. im a thf 18 and i uses bows till 15 that i got sneak attack because i s way better thatn a bow attack. i have see that practically the bows only hits mobs that are less lvl tahn me, the other ones almost never hits them. also the dmg isnt that much, i hit like 25 + all the time that it takes to put the bow out and take it back again that in my opinion takes even more time rhan it already is with the 360 wait time. so the attack isnt that good and it takes too lomg to fire, + the $ for the arrows and the fact that tyhe dmg is almost the same as a warriror. is it worth it???
is that big dmg that everyone is talking is only to really low lvls mobs???
    pls some answer.

well, the reason it's sucking for you at the moment is cos you're a thf and not a ranger - thf has like a grade C with bow, which means they suck with it - not only this but thfs can't equip the longbows that rangers can (you can see in the AH the longbows are a different shape)
in short, thfs aren't meant to use bows, and rangers are.

as a ranger, your bow (and gun) attacks will do massive damage, more than any other class, and you'll be able to hit totetote+ monsters (though missing is an issue early on, you need lots of AGI+ equip). so really, don't worry about it for now

I wouldn't waste your time using bow attacks with thf either, it's just a waste of time and money really... I tried doing the same thing (makeshift rng) - but nothing can live up to rng when it comes to using bows, so just rush thf to 30 so you can be rng already ~_^

when you attack that first attack is the only one that works because then the mob is next to you, or is it ok to keep attacking with the bow ?

You would probably want to keep shooting at him but you will eventually need tp or run out of arrows and that's when you use your daggers. When in a pt try not to run out of arrows or they might get mad once they realize that you are using daggers and not a bow. When going solo just do what you want and level up your bow skill.

would it be cheaper to buy arrows from the AH or to actually make them urself?

Making them is cheaper but more time consuming. A bonus to making them is getting them for cheaper while also raising your woodworking skill. If you start logging then you will recieve arrow wood which can be synthed to make arrows with a couple of items. You will also gain maple and holly wood which is work around 3000 gil a log. By doing this you won't have to worry about money as much. You can also make hatchets from the wood you log so that you can log more.

The outposts in sandoria have a couple good places to log.

don't ever buy arrows from the AH until you're fairly high lvl (45+), they're ridiculously overpriced. (unless you're buying the new arrows added after last major update)
your local weapon shop will have all the arrows you'll need (bar bone) for a while depending on your nations position in the conquest ranking.
high fame will push down these prices too, only by a gil maybe, but 1gil per arrow soon adds up

as for attacking, you should go in and attack with your dagger(s) from the start, and shoot inbetween - it'll raise your TP faster.

Even at high levels they're overpriced (although not as ridiculous as the ones you can buy in stores).

If you can afford it, learning carpentry is a good thing. Not only you can make your own arrows cheaply, you can also rip off fellow rich rangers to earn a (small) fortune)

                  To give an example:

Scorpion Arrow (lv59 carpentry) - costs 700-1000g to make, yet sells for 2500-3000g at AH in jeuno. If you include in tax, it's still quite a bit of money you save in a short time.

tongyang, how much - as an estimate - startup gil would it take to get to 59 in carpentry?

                    thx in advance :D

I don't have an exact estimate, but if you can afford to level up a ranger to lv40+, I can assure you that you can afford leveling carpentry to lv50+.

The good thing about carpentry is that in all level range there's always one or two items you can made that will sell in AHs fairly quickly. Therefore you don't really lose that much money training your skills. Just make sure you have your skill charts with you.

Now of course, you can't expect to level it from lv1 to 60 in a week. That would require selling everything to NPCs and that makes things much more expensive.
