  • Few simple Ranger questions

Still deciding if Ranger is the way to go, since rangers need alot of cash and time, will I find myself lagging behind my friends who are playing other classes( like red mage, summoner etc)

Also, if that is the case, would I still be able to group with them and actually be of use?

    Thinking of going this route:

    War
    get to 18
    Sub thief
    get thief to 15
    get war to 30
    get ranger
    Ranger/war
then lvl ranger to 28 and sub Nin
finally at ranger 60 sub SAM

Would this be a smart route or?

Last Question is, would a Hume Ranger or Elvaan ranger choice make a huge difference in how good my ranger becomes?

    Thanks !

Your route is a good one, but I must warn you that you'll have a hard time getting war to 30. It's an incredibly boring job, and PT invites will most likely be scarse, due to the fact there'll be so many other wars.
    War/Thf isn't very viable either.
I'd suggest you get war to 18, then go with Thf/War all the way to 30, I'm certain you'll have an easier time getting thf/war to 30 than you will war/thf.
Doing this, you'll be able to sub war with your rng until lv28 when you sub nin.
You'll also have a _much_ easier time making gil with 30thf than you will with a 30war

Until lv30, hume will be able to hit the target more than elvaan, but elvaan's hits will be more than hume's. After 30 I'm honestly not sure how much race effects it... but very little I assume.

Yeah you will need quite a bit of money for Ranger so like Voodoo said..Raise THF FIRST! lol, you have to buy armor, 5-7 stacks of arrows per PT, and a good 100% bow ^_^.

Thanks for all the info guys, ill take the THF/WAR route first then.

Although RNG/WAR would be a better combo then RNG/THF would ever be right?

I like the idea of having a ranger. I think Elvaan would be the best for a Ranger. but it really depends on what you would rather do. I mean the game is for fun so make your character how you want. I mean if all else fail have your real friends play with your character. If you want we could group sometime.

yeah, RNG/THF is pretty useless unless you're NM hunting.
But if you take that route you'll have WAR upto 18 already, and if you're subbing NIN for RNG at lv28, WAR sub will serve you perfectly until then

Hi Tsukasa, great sounds good, what server you on?

Voodoo, thanks again, the thing that mainly concerns me is money as well, I hear ninja is an expensive class too, so havein ranger(expensive class) and ninja im gonna be unable to keep up with my funds..

Unless lvling the thief class to 15 would give me adequate skills to farm some good cash hehe.

Yeah Ninja is expensive too, unfortunately... You're looking at loads of money to buy blink in the first place, and then powders to actually use it.

You can farm decent gil at lv20ish, if only hunting for silks - but it is time consuming, and how much time you put in will determine how much money you make.
NM hunting pays off lots of money, but is difficult, especially at low levels with only a few you can hunt...and is also time consuming, with no guarenteed payoff.

If money _is_ really a concern, I'd suggest you sub war then - but even if you sub ninja without blink (so you're just using it for 2 archers knives) you should get PT invites easy enough.

Thanks again for the info Apocalypse san

That is true, I can get ninja just for the dual wield, is just using dual RNG daggers better than having the WAR sub skills?

Yep money is definetly gonna be a big concern.Especially when I have to take time to get money while trying to stay on par with all my friend's lvls .

Mainly that doesn't help (skill at 15) that much inless you actually do want to go kill crawlers You need to get higher levels with Thief and mainly steal steal steal steal steal..^_^

Well Bolty. Im sorry to say but I dont have the game yet. I will have it on the 28th. If we are on different servers I will have to get you a world pass or you get me one. It will be fun either way. Maybe then I could help you with your ranger class a little better.

Since I craft I'm not worried about money for arrows or powders, but you know what I'm most concerned about? Space. I usually like to carry 800-1,000 arrows with me for parties and having enough powder to be able to use ninjitsu and not having to worry that you'll run out of powder because there is not enough space worries me a bit. I know that it's not as essential as arrows, but I'd still like to be able to use ninjitsu fairly often.

that is a problem then. its really hard when just your equipment takes up 20 slots. then your left with either 10 or 15 more. say u take up 9 slots for arrows and 5 slots for powders that should leave u with enough space to get some of the better items u come accross (assuming u did the inventory expansion quest).
