  • Rangers and Worms

Ages back, I remember hearing something about a way to kill worms easy as a ranger(this was before I wanted to become one). I didn't really pay attention, and forgot.

I recently heard it mentioned, and now that I"m going to become a ranger soon, I'd like some help. Can anyone enlighten me?

ranger main weapon are guns and bows which shoot from a distance.

worms main characteristic is, they can't move.

so as ranger you just stand a bit away from worms and shoot. they can't hit you back but beware they can still cast spell at you. which can be dangerous sometimes if the worm decided to cast strong attacking magics 4-5 times in a row

Thanks very much! That'll come in handy.

But one thing- is there any way to avoid the magic? Would the magic range be comparible to the arrow range?

you can avoid the magic, but its hard to pull off and takes a long time to finish the battle.
usually i equip stuff that increases my mnd and earth def, the just try to end the battle quickly
I have killed a tote (very hard) worm alone
the basic concept is, to shot an arrow, run out of range...wait for him to cast again (your still out of range) it will fail you run in and shot an arrow and then run again

i see ranges solo worms in Qufim all the time they jus get to the maximum distance they can shoot member the spot and run when cast animations go up... at lvl 20 groups are takin down worms... lvl 20 rangers can solo them=P

i've had 240 exp from a single worm before, but never anymore than that. 100~200 is common though.
it can be dangerous in some situations though.

Shakrami desert is a no no. There is wayyyy too much competition, and you will end up getting to fight a worm every 10-20 minutes (because its infested with mages, good luck finding a worm and keeping it unaggrod while you load your damn slow bow... most mages are so inconsiderate they will just dia it.)

not in my experience, there were more than enough worms for me in shakrami - mind you, this was before NA release...

There is another way of dealing with the spellcasting.. If you're 30+ and have a 15+ White Mage sub, use Silence on the worm.

I don't think silence will work very well. While I have no experience as a Ranger, I do have experience with my white mage. Assuming it even works, I noticed it goes away fairly quickly. Even with their high damage output, it still will take awhile for a Ranger to take on a worm; they simply wouldn't have the enfeebling level and mp supply to keep the worm constantly silent. My experience with silence is fairly limited on worms , however; I only started using it against worms on Qufim Island.

when I got silence I tried it on 'easy' and 'decent challenge' quifm worms, and they stayed silenced for a long time. the exp gain at that level isn't worth it though, so it's kinda pointless.
I haven't tried silence on any altepa worms, but i'm certain on anything tsuyo (tough) or above, it will wear off very quickly.
