Today I joined a full exp. party in Kazham as PUP/WHM (start at level 26 and finished at lvl 28), and I was testing the theory of tanking using the puppet.
To a certain extend, it works with Duo Tanking. The 1st party my puppet was duo tanking with PLD/WAR in Yuhtunga Jungle, 2nd party my puppet was duo tanking with NIN/WAR in Yhoator Jungle. The puppet can tank those mandies without problem, but it has serious issue tanking those Goblin and Lizzy.
I have tried different setup, but the following setting works: My puppet survived 20+ minutes duo tanking with the PLD/WAR using the following:
Valoredge Head + Harlequin Frame
Flashbulb --- Occasionally uses Flash (Light Maneuver)
Shock Absorber --- Occasionally uses Stoneskin (Earth Maneuver)
Replicator --- When HP is low, converts all wind maneuvers into shadow images
Strobe --- Enhances Enmity + Ocassionally uses Provoke (Fire Maneuver)
Damage Gauge --- Prioritizes Curing (Light Maneuver)
Mana Tank II --- Enhances Automaton Max MP. Dark Maneuver >> Effect: Adds Refresh
Auto-Repair Kit --- Enhances Automaton Max HP. Light Maneuver >> Effect: Adds Regen
Accelerator II --- Enhances Automaton Evasion (Wind Maneuver)
Pattern Reader --- Analyzes enemy attack pattern and gradually increases evasion (Wind)
Armor Plate II --- Enhances Automaton Defense (Earth Maneuver)
Stabilizer II --- Enhances Automaton Accuracy (Thunder Maneuver)
Heat Seeker --- Analyzes enemy evasion patterns and gradually enhances accuracy. (Thunder)
Flash + Evasion + Stoneskin is the 1st set of tools for damage mitigration, then Shadows + Self-Cure is the 2nd set of tools. I use Automation oil to repair when the puppet bleeds too fast.
The result is interesting. The puppet tank did cut down the MP usage of the overall party (becuase party member cannot cure the puppet), but it cannot tank the entire fight (because party member cannot cure the puppet, for the same reason).
My observation is, the puppet had to release the hate to the other party members when it it start to Self-Curing and converting Wind Maneuver into shadows.
If I have a chance, next time I will try PUP/WAR instead of PUP/WHM, in order to bounce hate between me and the puppet.
