whats the best race for a puppetmaster?

Up at the top click My Settings and then Edit Avatar. There are a few pages of preset avatars to pick from or you can upload one of your own.

Are we already trying to pigeonhole the new clases to a particular "best" race? Oh wait, of course we are.

It would depend on a number of factors:

1.) What you sub
2.) What role you try to fill
3.) What Automaton you use
4.) Etc?

If subbing WHM, I can see where Taru would look great, or when subbing a melee job, Galka or Elvaan would certainly look pretty awesome. But that's all just on paper. In truth, as with all of the other jobs in this game, it's really difficult to define "best" beyond those on paper numbers, because player skill and gear play such a huge part in determining how well an individual does at a job.

Best race for PUP would be the best race for MNK, concidering they are very related (exept for the fact that you get a cute sidekick with one of them). And the best sub for PUP is MNK because PUP is H2H based, and you get boost.

I'd say Galka, but perhaps Mithra for more DEX and AGI. And when in doubt, go for Hume :D

I beg to differ. They are not related much at all. Their H2H rating is much lower, and their gear options are terrible. That's like saying a warrior using a cesti is very related to a monk. Subbing MNK at higher levels for boost is not a good reason to do so, it's not that great of a skill. The only reason I could possible see subbing MNK is for the h2h trait to improve the speed of your h2h attacks... which if they stack with PUPs , you would have 3 more... but I don't know if they do, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that considering the fact that PUP does use H2H, you're going to need some attack/str to back up those little pokes at the monster if you want it to add up to anything. In this case I think war would be a better sub.. Berserk would help alot.. but then you could make the arguement that the acc from Focus would be helpful aswell. I don't think either is necessarily a whole lot better than the other. Even DRG for attack bonus/acc bonus/and 2 jumps would be better than MNK sub IMO, unless the H2H traits stack with PUP.

And to suggest Galka as best race, and then jump all the way to Mithra as second.. that's just weird. AGI isn't going to help anyone who's not tanking or planning on playing THF.. Mithra STR is very low in comparison to the other races.
If you're planning on making a character specifically because you're interested in a DD job, just play Galka, Elvaan, or Hume. People often fail to consider the importance of STR. Especially RNG's.

Bottom line, sub what works for you, and play whatever race you like playing. To say there isn't a best is ignorant though. Certain jobs benefit more from certain things that some SJ or Races have more of to offer, but if you're not having fun then what's the point. It's just a game. Good luck :D

Eh I don't know, I don't like these kind of topics. Every race has it's up and downs stat wise, but it's up to the player him/herself to determine how good the character will be. No one race is better than the other, its just a nationalistic question that will get nationalistic answers
hehe.

For the record I am a hume Puppetmaster, and it has been working out great for me so far, but I don't know how good it will be in the long run, and I'm sure not many people know either since it is a fairly new job.

Just remember, it's how you play the job that will determine how good you will be. The job does not solely rely on race, just keep that in mind.

Well the first Martial Arts bonus from mnk does not stack with pup's, however you do get it 19 lvls earlier. The rest of mnk's MA traits do apply to pup. And also, since we're talking about pup as a DD, you've all forgotten two very nice pieces of gear that legitimize mnk as a sub: Cestus Belt and Wrestler's Mantle. H2H skill +5 and an extra Martial Arts boost never hurt...
