  • Official Puppetmaster description

    SE has published the puppetmaster to the official site, with a description and a couple of screenshots.

    These wandering performers entertain crowds and confound their enemies with a customizable puppet known as an "automaton." Puppetmasters can also fall back on hand-to-hand fighting skills that utilize the flexible movements of their art.
    I thought the unarmed fighting of the pup in the video was just because they didn't feel like giving it a weapon, but it seems to be official.

    They didn't have any hand to hand weapons on, either, and the round time didn't seem modified.

    Also the words 'entertain' and 'confound' are in the description, which could be construed as 'buff and 'debuff'

    your thoughts?

        /mnk seems like a good option. Martial Arts is good for H2H, I hear. ^^

        I'm more intruigued by the phrase "customizable puppet." Could that mean that rather than upgrading puppets like weapons that you can use or equip different items on your puppet to give them different characteristics?

          Yea... That "customizable" gets ya really into it, y'know? More or less, it reminded me of Medabots... -w-;;;

            PUP/MNK, customize Robot for healing and just solo.

            Until we get more details on customization...not sure what to assume about Puppetmaster...except of course the fact I'm gonna model swap that puppet if it hasta look like that.

            Seriously...would it have been so hard to give us a Magic Doll type puppet...

              I thought the same thing when I saw the video. I figured they didn't want to give away what type of weapon they would be using. Hand to hand.......sub mnk.....I was actually thinking of lvling this job up but I think I'll wait and see.

                  That'd certainly make it more interesting...but then it's kinda like DRG/MNK+other SJ. I like to think of Square-Enix as being slightly more creative then that. They really don't seem like the people to just rehash jobs like that.

                  Still...then they'd be classified into the same lot as DRG.

                      Well, I suppose some of that stuff from Legend of Mana is possible... Like creating your golem from materials. But the part that made the golems really customizable in LoM was how you could play with their AI to get them to do what you want. On FFXI it seems more likely that the puppet would be controlled through a series of Job Abilities.

                        I don't really see /mnk being necessary... perhaps a possibility... Just because the pup uses hand to hand doesn't mean they're really good at it... they could be on par with a whm using a club.

                        Then, they could be on par with a bst using an axe... in which case mnk would be fairly useful I guess, but I'd probably still sub whm.

                            The reason you didn't see the PUP in the videos equip a weapon in its hand was because technically, it already had a weapon equiped in that slot, the puppet. "Customizable Puppets" would be akin to saying you have customizable swords for DRK or PLD. Since it's going to be /equip Main "Puppetname" kind of macro, the PUP's hands appeared empty and utilized unarmed H2H instead of a MNK using H2H weapons. If PUP was allowed to equip a weapon even though it is utilizing the puppet, then it may border on overpowering the job possibly. You do have to realize S-E did their own testing of PUP before anyone saw the info.

                              Are we sure at this point that the puppet is equipped in the weapon slot? I read some speculation about this before the puppetmaster wras unveiled, and I think some of that is lingering. If you have official information saying that the puppet is equiped in the weapon slot I'd like to read it.

                              It's too early to say it would be overpowered with a weapon. After all, bst gets to equip an axe, and charmed pets are extremely powerful. Jug pets, although not as good, are still very useful, yet I don't think that equipping the weapon makes bst overpowered...

                              We'll see what happens...
