Equipment upgrade for Paladin lvl 69-75, I need aid!

This is for a friend actually -

To begin, he's a guy who doesn't like "devoting his life" to the game, or spending a horrendous ammount of time on it. He just wants to have fun in parties or alone, being an awesome tank. He's strictly a Pld/War, and is 6-1 mission in sandy. However, he has niether sea nor sky, nor has any real aspiriation to do them.

He's horribly cheap... so nothing pricey, and might be willing to go after some simple NMs, but nothing beyond.

With that, I'd first like to ask someone to tell him the various large-scale activities or events he can do as a Paladin to make a little money or get some equipment with a large group of people, because he has literally no idea where to start. Even at lvl 75, tell him what a Paladin can be used for.

Second, here's his equipment right now at lvl 69 -

1. Sword- Gluttony sword
2. Shield – Iron Ram shield
3. Ammo- Bibiki seashell
4. Head – Gallant Coronet
5. Neck – Medieval Collar
6. Earrings – Mercenary’s earring, Insomnia earring
7. Body – Gallant Surcoat
8. Hands – Gallant Gauntlets
9. Ring – Unyielding ring, Chrysoberyl ring
10. Back – Knightly Mantle
11. Belt – warwolf belt or Warrior’s belt +1
12. Leggings – Gallant Breeches
13. Feet- Gallant leggings

So, what's a cheap way to upgrade him?

Just a note, getting sea isn't even 1/2 as hard as it use to be nowadays. It's hardly price and doesn't take a whole lot of effort. There's always shouts in Whitegate for some COP missions. Sky isn't that hard either to be honest. That said, I don't think 3 hrs a a day is considered "devoting ones life to the game" but that's just me.

Head:
Go camp Fafnir along with some HNM LS and snatch an Aegishjalmr. They are common and nobody hardly wants them most of the time. It's practically free.

Neck:
Can get a Parade Gorget. Doesn't take awhole lot of people and the pop items aren't outrageously hard to obtain.

Earring (probably something your friend wants to do):
After finishing COP and ZM, you can do Apocalpyse Nigh for a Ethereal Earring. No money involved. Just finish some missions, walk around, and do some BCNM type battles. Loads of fun. Only need to find 5 other people to do them

Hands, Legs, Feet:
A Nyzul Isle static and get Askar Hands and Feet as alternatives. You could also do Dynamis for the Valor Leggings that enhance Sentinel & Breeches.

Body:
I just stick with Galant. I don't find the buyable one as a good alternative. However you can pick up a Valor Surcoat at Dynamis OR a more costly option is Ares Body (it's not expensive if you mine for your ores and do ISNM >.>) and plus Salvage is fun to do ^ ^

Rings (probably something your friend doesn't want to do):
Can pick up the Savetta Ring after you finish COP.

Back:
Can pick up a Valor's Cape in Dynamis otherwise I use High Breath Mantle.

Shield:
Koeing Shield is pretty cheap if I remember right

Weapon:
Macuahitl +1 is pretty cheap too or just find someone to craft it for you through shouts or LS mates.

Lastely, he might want to look at the Campaign Battle gear from San d'Oria for some other alternatives to hands,head,legs, and feet.

To meet the OP's requirements....

Weapon: Macuahitl +1 or Company Sword
Shield: Koenig Shield is fine

Head: Adaman Helm for tanking/Optical Hat at 70 for fighting/Walahra Turban

Body: Adaman Cuirass for tanking/Haubergeon for EXP/fighting | Gallant Surcoat is fine though still if you cannot afford Adaman Cuirass. Dependant on his inventory I suppose.

Neck: Chiv Chain for fighting, Shield Torque for tanking, Parade Gorget

Earring1 and Earring2: No comment

Hands: Gallant hands are fine really. Dusk Gloves for EXP I suppose...

Ring1 and Ring2: Jelly Ring/Unyielding Ring/Hercule's Ring

Back: Amemet Mantle for fighting/EXP, Knightly is fine if there's no other alternative, High Breath Mantle is good too for the HP and Emnity

Belt: Warwolf Belt

Legs: Adaman Legs or Gallent Legs .... NOTE: PLD doesn't have much other good choice here if you do not do much events...

Feet: Gallant Feet, for tanking. Dusk Feet otherwise for EXP.

I understand the "don't want to dedicate life/time to game" idea myself, hence my given choices.

The Dusk items may be a bit expensive, Haubergeon should be 200k odd depending on server. Everything else falls into place naturally, maybe another 200-400k investment. Your call really.

Wants to tank. Don't mind soloing. Likely hates farming and prolonged grind for gears. Hmm... Skip the DD gears. Skip merit parties. Skip Nyzul Isle.

Haste gear for Utsusemi (and maybe Flash); every PLD should be prepared to tank as /NIN these days. Can work on Iron Ram Sallet set (Head, Hands, Legs, Feet) for defense/enmit75y/HP/MDB while soloing in Campaign Battles (people don't care what gear you have on in CB. heh.) I really only use Adaman Body and Legs, and not full time or every fight.

Hercules' Ring is awesome for farming, in case he decides he wants to make gil but short on crafting/fishing/BCNM front. Pretty decent macro piece for Provoke/Flash as well, and is a good part of "I AM SO GONNA DIE! >_< " gear subset. (A.K.A. My "lowHP" macro.)

Bomb Queen ring has interesting uses, and my be one of the first Rare/Ex gear he may want to go for after some or all of Iron Ram Sallet set. Jelly Ring, too, can be good to have. If and when he has progressed enough in CoP, may want to go for Swift Belt and Boxer's Mantle.

Parade Gorget is somewhat overrated for PLD/WAR--if tanking, HP won't be high enough to activate it most of the time. If not tanking, might as well use DD gear instead. It's still nice to have, but it's mostly just resting gear to me. (PLD/NIN, on the other hand, may get more use out of it.)

Purchasable items wise, priority should be on: Macuahitl +1, Shield Torque, Dusk (hands and feet), and then Adaman pieces to taste. May want to lose the Mercenary Earring for Buckler, too. Hercules' Ring, too.

Tell him to sell that Gluttony Sword right now. Macuahuitl +1 or Company Sword. I would tell him to put some work into getting Joyeuse if he has the support to get it.

Good line of thought, bad buy for a PLD. Royal Guard's Collar offers the same performance for chump change. Medieval Collar is trash though, he definitely needs to get rid of that, R.G. Collar and Shield Torque like Itaz suggested will cover all his normal needs besides Parade Gorget's Refresh for soloing.

Knightly Mantle is also near-useless, since High Breath Mantle is arguably superior in any situation and for EXP so is Amemet Mantle.

Like Itaz said, Mercenary's earring is pretty "meh." Buckler is arguably better, there's cheap Attack earrings for doing damage and Insomnia Earring is pretty nice for the MP and Resist Sleep which can come in handy sometimes.

Maat is a piece of cake, your friend probably can't beat him because he's not eating meat and using a really poor sword. Gotta treat him like a EP mob with a lot of HP and try to put the hurt on him.

Your friend won't be able to play PLD fully taking the inexpensive route because he won't be willing to buy any DD gear to fight enemies that can be melee'd efficiently.

Also, regarding this...

It's as expensive as Haubergeon on Midgard.

EDIT: Also, as for money, aside from farming and HELM, BCNMs, KSNMs, ENMs, and ISNMs are all viable and "easy" ways to make money. Technically there's also crafting and fishing, but both require plenty of time and money before they start being profitable and to be quite honest I'm not sure how the profits are for either activity right now.

Yeah, selling that Gluttony along with Knightly Mantle and Merc Earring should free up a goodly amount of gil for him. And for performance he won't miss. Lifebelt, a coral earring, R.G collar, HB Mantle and he's good for a while.

Even then, he should probably push further but those change will save him money and make him hold hate better.

For AH purchasable/economical stuff, I would suggest for the following quick and dirty changes~

Earring: Coral Earring x2
Back: Amemet Mantle
Neck: Royal Guard's Collar
Waist: Life Belt (Warwolf Belt if sword merit point is available)
Sword: do NOT use Gluttory Sword ... sell it (if gil is an issue, Company Sword is okay)
The rest: Worry about those later when gil/time is available. However, in the long run there are better gear options once you can afford it.

Reason: S-E had tweaked the PLD job. VIT+ isn't the way anymore --- in the past there was no choice besides VIT+, but today there are better options. However, for strictly PLD/WAR tanking DEF+ still has impact.

Another suggestion: Have other subjobs available, at least keep both /nin /war options open.

It's dependant on support obviously, but in my recent parties my HP has been kept surprisingly high. I just keep a macro to swap in Parade when it's high, then swap back to PCC when it's not. I try to use as much MP as I can with decent support, and the extra 1/tick adds up sometimes.

A note on BQ ring as well, there was the new stuff on Kaeko's research regarding higher max HP creating less enmity loss when blood tanking, so BQ may be coming back into style soon.

As far as your friend being cheap, honestly a cheap PLD doesn't have a place in endgame. Non-R/E Haste gear is expensive, Shihei adds up, and /NIN is too important to just 'not have' or to be crappily equipped for. R/E Haste gear doesn't exactly fall from the sky either, most is relatively difficult to obtain aside from Walahra Turban. /WAR is fine for Dynamis/Limbus but if they want to tank they'll have to pony up at some point.

And it's been said already, but the Iron Ram set is just too awesome and too easy to get(and too free!) to not go after.

Wow lol, not sure if that means cheap Haubys or expensive Koenings, last I checked Koenig ran 120~ and Hauby 220~ on Ramuh. I have a General's Shield @ 69 that I'm going to have someone upgrade and pray for HQ.
