FFXI really lacks a job which that particular editor erringly gave Paladin. I mean, Warriors can sacrifice damage for defensive capability, but the moment they do that they become obsolete.

To be fair, that's only a guide, and whoever wrote it is free to express whatever opinion s/he has. It says so at the top of the page.

Although, I don't see what stops anybody from merely deleting that note, anyway. Point is: Paladins can do great damage, but it is not what they are invited for. It's not even what they signed up for, entirely: tanking's quite fun, so I've heard.

Like I said earlier, FFXI lacks a true "all defense/no offense" class that they think they have in Paladin.

For how much of the game are Paladins requested to tank, and how much effort must a Paladin go to at what point in the game just to just to compete with other damage dealers?

It really only seems like Paladins can deal comparable damage because melee jobs gimp their damage for survivability these days, whereas Paladins just gimp their survivability for damage.

I've found most of the so-called "guides" on FFXIclopedia need to not be taken with a grain of salt, but a bucket. No one checks the guides there for quality, sad to say.

does anyone even check the guides at all? all i remember ever using it for was the item database, and for missions and assaults
ofcourse i think i was deluded enough 4 years ago before i started playing to use gamefaqs. /sigh
