Personally, I don't do visual gear swaps as Paladin only because the WHM will complain that they lose target on me when I do, but I do see some Paladins do. The thing is during bigger events WHMs want to keep that target on the Paladin, and doing a visual gear swap at a crucial point where the WHM loses target and loses a chance at a good Cure V or whatever, might be deadly.

I do gear swaps like my Kiting gear/turtle tanking gear but never while engaged.

    What do you think?

A WHM worth their salt will have a /ma "Cure V" Tank'sname macro, especially at endgame events. If you're the main tank for the event there's no excuse for them to not have one and complain about losing targeting because of swaps, it takes 15 seconds tops to make the macro.

You should be swapping whatever you feel you need to in order to maximize your tanking ability, don't hold back because you're worried about blinking in and out, that's a problem that needs to be solved on the healer's end.

What Callisto said. If a healer complains, ask them to make a macro with your name in it. Losing target right as you cast Haste or Cure 3 isn't a big deal usually, so they only really need one for the big Cure anyway. (Of course you might die if they don't...)

Also agreed with Callisto. It really only takes a minute to change a name in a macro, I don't know why people feel the need to be lazy.

          Re: Paladin: Visual Gear Swaps

Contrary to the opinions in this thread, there ARE times when it's terribly inconvenient to have your tanks blinking like stoplights.

For one thing, in a kiting fight, it's easy to lose track of your tank if they blink for a few seconds.

There are also times when it just isn't practical to have a macro for every tank (Dynamis).

Doesn't mean that you shouldn't ever macro-switch an armor piece, but if you die because of it, you have only yourself to blame - so don't use a blinking macro right after you just took 900 points of damage. Don't blame it on your healers, who have to juggle many macros based on a variety of situations.

My macros are set up so that I don't lose someone in situations like that. But maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I personally keep an 'ohshit!' Cure IV macro set to the main tank's name next to the other macros that I typically hover over during a big fight, my /assist <t> macro to tell the alliance who has hate, and other little useful ones, while my normal Cure macros are set on <st>'s in their own row. Like Coinspinner said, you only need to do it with your big cure for emergency macros, I'm not saying WHMs need to completely rewrite their macro book.

Kind of amusing though, I have a swap in my Convert macro, it just swaps between AF2 and Crimson gloves so that I can vert while running without being forced to stop moving, one time I got ahead of myself trying to Cure after vert too quickly while kiting something, and actually blinked out of my own targeting and nearly died, lol.

I find myself in the minority opinion most times when it comes to macros....

I have been a huge fan of creating macros like /ma "Cure III" <p1> and then creating 5 of them in a row. Now with the extra long super special mega list of macro spaces people have it is even easier to make macros to target any person with any spell ever and not give two hoots about how many times they blink in and out.

                /cheer my 80 macro's for WHM.

If I was a WHM main I'd do it the same way, but I'm already sitting at 196 RDM macros lol. I personally would recommend WHM's doing it this way, this is how I showed my g/f to do it when she started a bit ago, however in a big endgame event I'd still have the main tank(s) having their own cure bomb macro, in case you aren't in their alliance.

                    Re: Paladin: Visual Gear Swaps

I carry Fire resitant gear when tanking things like Tiamat or Bomb Queen and macro in emnity+ gear (AF and adaman) for when i use hate grabbing moves (provoke, sentinel, flash, etc) and then macro back in the fire gear.

I don't really have much for a kiting setup, I don't carry EVA gear because Paladins evade like a brick wall and id rather have my DEF. I carry a Terra's staff and Jelly ring, gigant mantle and alot of HP gear for kiting since i'm not straight tanking.

Turtle tanking, i just wear my normal paladin setup, not blinking in and out for whms there.

Although i do feel the pain as Bard when im up at Byakko helping the WHMs Paralyna, it does get rather frustrating to try to Paralyna a blinking Ninja (i play on xbox360 sometimes so i dont have fancy keyboard macros, i have to toggle with the controller) i do when im on my laptop though.

                      Re: Paladin: Visual Gear Swaps

Just a personal nitpick/preference for kiting, I know most of my tank friends like to stack haste/emnity for kiting to Flash more often, mostly b/c you have constant hate decay from shadow loss and you aren't tossing out Cures for hate, so being spammy with Flash is nice for kiting. The hardest part is generally losing hate to nukers.

All this PLD talk lately is going further and further to convince me to pick it back up once I finish my DNC sub, especially since I'll be stockpiling emnity gear for RDM tanking as is, it's going to be a tough choice between SCH and PLD for my next 75.
