  • mmmm? PLD/SCH?

I know I know..... but I was thinking about this the other day. and was wondering if it would work the way I thought it might.

    PLD/SCH as a DD type

Equip 2H Sword and attack gear. Also eat attack food

after I level SCH some, I would love to try out this idea, and see if it would fly ;p

its not really what SCH would bring to PLD DD wise, but it would enhance PLDs spells a great deal, and PLD would be able to focus more on DD, then tanking. I know its silly idea, but I had it in my head, and wanted to see what others thought ;p

Hmm. PLD has Protect, Shell, Cure, Flash, Banish/Holy.

Do you want PLD to cure more efficiently or something? Or nuke with Banish more? I don't think Flash, Protect, or Shell need much help, though shorter recast for Flash is always nice.

Maybe situational....but in parties, I would want a paladin to have more defense and attack by subbing warrior than magic.

Would you still be planning to tank with /sch? It seems like it would be hard to hold hate. /sch gives no high hate spells that I can think of. Light Arts and Penury would let you Flash roughly two more times every eight minutes, but I doubt that would make up for the loss of provoke.

SCH isn't a pure DD job - Why people keep looking wistfully for a DD job within it is quite frankly beyond me - why would you think it could be subbed for DD purposes, BLM/SCH notwithstanding?

PLD/SCH really isn't a terrible combination if you want to lend more support to the party. Light Arts does decrease the cost of Cures by 10%, and SCH has some other spells (Drain, Aspir) and abilities which aren't completely useless. Couple this with a Martial Staff for Spirit Taker, and you could probably use PLD to heal in merits while fighting. However, I believe Berserk and Double Attack from WAR SJ would provide for more powerful and more frequent Spirit Takers while doing more damage.

I personally don't see anything wrong with PLD/DNC if you want to do something different. DNC's TP based cures will benefit from PLD's high VIT and CHR. If you can still tank using Animated Flourish, PLD will benefit from extra TP gain from taking hits and blocking with their shield. Also once PLD gains access to a Joyuese they could take over main healing. However, the additional damage from weaponskills contributes more to enmity than cures.

If it's asking a PLD to play healer, why not PLD/WHM for Curaga, -na spells, bar- spells, etc. instead? As healer, both /WHM and /SCH have strong points, but /WHM do give a wider variety of tools.

/sch seems to be oriented to magic heavy classes. yes, pld can use magic (duh) but its mostly to cure/flash. dont see this being a dd subjob.

I don't really see /SCH being of merit for a DD paladin. DD Paladin using 2h sword should sub SAM for Zanshin, Hasso, Store TP and Meditate. I can't think of a job that would enhance PLD's Two-handed DD potential better than /SAM.

                          Re: mmmm? PLD/SCH?

                          ?

/SCH gives low tier nukes, Drain and Aspir. It does not have Magic Attack Bonus or Magic Defense Bonus. It will raise Magic skills that are below B to either B- or B+ ranking. B magic skills are not very good unless you can wear a decent amount of skill gear (AF levels and 65+ is where this start showing up) and use Elemental Staves.

The low level SCH that you see doing great spike damage are playing like BLMs. They are wearing a lot of INT gear and are probably level 20-30+ /BLM. /BLM gives them Magic Attack Bonus +20. At level 30 /BLM also lets them wear Wizard's Earring for +5 Elemental skill. SCH nukes honestly suffer accuracy issues unless the SCH is merited and using Wizard's Earring and/or other skill gear. 40+ /RDM will nuke fine for a SCH, at least when they get some AF with Elemental skill, can use Elemental Torque, get more active elemental merits, etc.

I don't know PLD magic skills ranking offhand, but SCH Arts abilities would boost Enhancing Magic and probably Healing Magic. It would give some spells for Dark and Elemental and give decent ranking in those schools of Magic. The thing is that PLD and SCH have crappy Enhancing spells and no enfeebles. All this would give is weak nukes, regens, drain/aspir, and some lower interruption for some spells typically cast by PLDs.

Not quite true: 10% off white magic spells, and an occasional drain or aspir that can hit.

Oh, and Regen (I and II). That doesn't suck when you have PLD-level defense.

Not something I'd use in exp, but with B-ranked aspir, the MP efficiency of regen 2, PLD's native auto refresh (plus Parade Gorget and Sanction if conditions permit), and a half price Cure IV every four minutes... that could be pretty impressive endurance even without counting Spirit Taker or Chivalry. Sneak and invis are a handy side benefit for a soloing sub.

Ironically, you can get a large boost to enhancing magic but your only enhancing spells are unaffected by skill (protect, shell, regen). IIRC you get no enfeebles worth mentioning from /SCH (or is it none whatsoever?)
