  • Questions about Hate gathering

    New Pallie needing help.

    1) Damaging a mob give you hate but is that hate reduced by the damage the mob does to you?

    2) Does autoregen food/equipment/jobs give you hate? For example, would 1 hp per tick give me hate a constant stream of hate?

    3) Does using none damaging JA abilities give hate? For example, holy circle?

    4) Does AoE spells/abilities give more hate than single target spells/abilities? (or is it dependent on damage?)

    5) Does a shield's defense add to the damage reduced when blocking ? (or is it completely dependent on shield size?)

    6) Could someone refer me to a site or forum that can calculate how DEF and VIT play into damage reduction?

    7) Anyone know any site or forum that has the calculation of how AGI plays into shield blocking?

    8) Is evasion worth the extra cash or should I stick to ACC, ATK, DEF, STR, and VIT?

    Re: Questions about Hate gathering

    1) Yes, being damaged lowers yours hate. However, it should be noted that, point-for-point, you gain more damage for doing a certain amount of damage than what you lose for taking that much damage. E.g. Doing 100 damage to the mob, or curing yourself for 100 HP, gains more hate than what you lose when the mob hits you for 100 damage.

    2) No.

    3) Yes. However, in most cases it's negligible. Sentinel, Shield Bash, Rampart, Warcry, Souleater, and Last Resort all generate large amounts of hate. It should be noted that hate from JAs disappears over time very quickly. A special exception is Sentinel, makes anything you do while it's active generate a lot more hate than usual.

    4) Some AoE buffs and abilities generate a lot of hate, others don't. As mentioned previously, Warcry and Rampart generate a lot of hate. On the other hand, BRD songs and COR rolls are pretty low-hate. AoE cures will generate hate proportionately to the total HP recovered to targets that are in the mob's hate list. Hitting multiple mobs with an AoE will only get you hate according to how much that particular mob was hit for.

    5) No. Completely dependent on shield size. The shield's defense just contributes to your defense like any other piece of armor would.

    6) VZX's FFXI Doc has the info for calculating the damage that a PLAYER does TO A MOB before the big two-handed weapon patch. We don't know the new formulas yet. Even if we did, it doesn't help us much since when mobs attack players, they use different formulas than when players attack mobs.

We do know that once you have a certain amount of Defense in comparison to the mob's Attack, the minimum damage that the mob does to you won't go any lower, and so Defense stops helping as much. In general, you could say you're in that range of Defense if you're wearing decent armor and eating Defense food.

We also know that every 4 VIT lowers the mob's DMG by 1. Because of this, VIT has a low cost-to-effectiveness ratio from the mid-levels and up (i.e. it takes too much VIT to see a significant reduction in damage taken.)
