  • Pld/nin?

How early? I wasn't planning on it until 72, not for Utsu:Ni, but rather, usage of the Suppanomi.

I love my Joyeuse. But it's base damage is largely "meh" when compared to the Company Sword.

But I suppose if I felt like it, the earliest I COULD use it is level 70 (Company + Joyeuse, yay!), because at the very least, WARs sub NIN and have a higher combined delay anyway.

Nothing it wrong with trial and error, and if anyone knows me, if I can do something a few levels earlier, I will (Vorpal Blade at PLD59 ^_^ ), but not at the cost of effectiveness.

I suppose just having the sub available will be better, but I don't forsee myself getting any traditional parties unless I set them up with other people who are starved for EXP post 70..

Let's see, Joyeuse by itself probably gives better TP gain.

So, the number of WS you'd "lose" by dual wielding have to be exceeded by the better damage of WS from Company Sword.

      Re: Pld/nin?

I remember xping with a pld/nin around 65+ range in bibiki bay. I do know he had merits since I asked...I was rather impressed with his performance.

      Macuahuitl +1 x2
      scorpion harness
      a mix of pld af

is all that I recall...I don't /check people...but I'm sure he had other evasion pieces in other slots. He was avoiding mob alot.

Suppose, if you can get a good thf. I'm sure you can pull it off without the merits.

If you have access to merits...I would definitely get evasion skill max (4/4 = 8 evasion skill)

Now if your implying to do DD pld (like keep hate through damage)...I'm not too familiar with that.

Well although I have no supa so not sure how much it affects it i can tell you PLD/NIN is so so as far as as i have used it. With NI i survive pretty well against a lot of tight situations but it really depends on the mob you encounter. With Joytoy you can combine it with bayards sword and really get some good results.

          Re: Pld/nin?

You might find out that once you get up to about 74 you won't get many party invites on PLD unless you have NIN sub available, just because merit burn parties won't invite you without it.

Other than that, having /NIN available is huge if you want to start getting into endgame activities. Most HNM shells will require a PLD to have it available, and the really brutal nature of the NMs you'd be facing from Aspidochelene to Dynamis Lord to Proto-Ultima will require it too.

            Re: Pld/nin?

Since no one has explicitly mentioned it, Utsusemi: Ni is level 37, so you can't cast it as PLD/NIN until level 74.

For grinding out those last few levels before then, you might try PLD/SAM with a solid Greatsword if you end up needed to do some DD in a TP-burn style party. Third Eye is nearly as good as Utsusemi: Ichi (better in some ways, since it's uninterrupting... and faster), and Hasso will do good things for your damage output. The penalty to spellcasting time isn't really pertinent in such parties either, since you're rarely going to be casting (except perhaps the odd Cure III/IV bomb, and you can certainly alternate between those and be fine).

              Re: Pld/nin?

Everyone is listing all the reasons why I quit PLD. XD

/NIN without Ni can work if you have a good party with a THF. Flash + Abilities + SATA will give you all the hate you need if DDs in the party are all /NIN, although some hate-bouncing around when someone does the big numbers on a WS is inevitable I guess.

I've played it like this before and the only thing that did bug me was my lack of DD gear, either way in all cases I was always using a Shield along with Ichi (and then Ni) for both blocks and Shield Bash. But then again, since I never intended on being a DD as PLD that lead more to dissapointment about the job than anything else.

                Re: Pld/nin?

I think pld/nin is a bit overrated. It helps a lot to mitigate dmg in pt's but PLD/WAR as far as I have seen at soloing does pretty decent dmg with specific equipment.

                  Re: Pld/nin?

/WAR can only do more damage with Berserk, which is a big problem if you're going to be getting hit. /NIN is a better solo sub, and /RDM solos the hell out of a lot of things.
