    Dissector (Rare/Ex)
    Sword [All Races]
    Damage: 23 Delay 231
Latent Effect: Damage 36, Critical Hit Rate +6%
    Lv. 72 WAR/RDM/THF/PLD/DRK/BRD/RNG/NIN/DRG/BLU

Latent effect is activated/broken similar to the Sapara of Trials, except that it needs 500 Weapon Skill points rather than the 300 the Sapara needs.

    ---------

I did a few Double Dragonian ksnm's a couple weeks back and wound up with one of these in my inventory. In it's base form it pretty much sucks but I figured it might be good to check in and see if anyone's broken the latent on it and had good results.

The damage on it seems really low even after the latent is broken but the +6% crit rate might be interesting. It's also somewhat attractive in terms of the variety of jobs that can use it. Company Sword may demolish it in terms of damage but only 3 jobs can wield a Company Sword and 2 of them probably never will.

So, anyone have experience with it?

dissector is great for other jobs but for pld i think you have access to or want to use other swords for their stats. vit, enmity, def? critical hit rate isnt as important to pld as it is for other jobs.

      Re: Dissector

The damage is just too pathetic. It's only one point higher than Joyeuse and Joyeuse's DA effect is far more effective than +6% crit, giving you more damage *and* more TP. In the rare case where I'm dual wielding I want something with high damage in my main hand for WS (Company, Bayard etc.) and again Joyeuse will be far more effective in the offhand slot than Dissector.

And that's not even including Hrotti, Justice Sword and Hauteclaire, or situations where your sword is more for stats than for hitting things (Macuahuitl+1, Durandal etc.)

If it was non-ex and cheap, I suppose it might be worth picking up for PLD/NIN if you don't have Joyeuse. But it's ex and the effort involved in getting and activating one is considerably *more* than getting a Joyeuse, so it's really not worth the trouble.

So if they bumped the damage on it another 10 points or so it would be interesting but as is it's essentially a paperweight? Kind of what I figured.

I'll hang onto it as a souvenir (up to 7 mules now, makes keeping junk like this possible). Looking over the long job list for it, everyone else either has better options or will never use a sword, except *maybe* Blue Mage. Their swords seem to cap at around Dmg:38 but even there you've got options for +Acc, +Att or +MP that might be more useful (Blues don't get Joys or any of the other really slick swords it looks like).

In terms of getting it though, I'm not sure I buy it being harder than a Joy. Charybdis has a long window and a lot of competition. Double Dragonian wasn't hard with 5 out of the 6 of us being 72-73. We did 4 runs and got Destroyers for our Monk plus about 1.3 million in items. That's kind of weak for 120 total Kindred seals but still loads easier than getting and beating Charby.

          Re: Dissector

Nah there's not THAT much competition on Charby, and it only takes two or three people in the right combination to kill. Then once you get the sword you're done.

For Dissector you have to farm up the seals if you don't have them laying around, find a good party or nearly-full party to do the fight with you and then once you get the sword assuming it drops, you have to spend hours in skillup closing 100 level 3 chains or 167 level 2 chains if you can't find the right partner to break the latent.

Having both gotten Joyeuse and helped friends get unlocked Destroyers and Coffinmakers, I'd have to agree with the assessment that Joyeuse is the easier to get, though they're both a considerable amount of effort.

And nah, blus don't get Ridill, Joy or even Seiryu. The best swords for blu seem to be Shiva's Shotel (very rare drop from a very difficult alliance-based quest), Storm Tulwar (15k Mamool assault item), Senior Gold Musketeer's Scimitar (Rank 10 Bastok CP item), Dissector, Adaman Kilij and its upgrades (2M+ on Lakshmi). Even then there's little point in melee stats alone for blu, so my friend is just sticking with Ifrit's Blade for the +3 str. There's a rumor that Dissector's +6% crit effect extends to blue magic, which would make it quite nice indeed, but that's still disputed.
