  • Low level head armor

    I'm taking PLD up now and I'm currently at 13. I'm curious to see what some opinions are on head pieces up until the eisen/kamph set at 29.

    I was tempted to get a Cache-Nez, but is the emnity worth the DEF loss?

    What are some other good pieces to look for along that path? the sandy/kingdom bandana maybe?

    Enmity shouldn't be too hard to keep at that level mind you. It just ensures the mob stays a bit longer on you during a heated fight, shouldn't matter all that much in exp parties.

    Def
    Vit
    Enmity

    Should be taken in order generally speaking. 1 Def vs more Vit, I'd go for the Vit for the little difference.

      * Preferred
      ** Strongly preferred

      -------------------------------
      Lv.10 *Royal Footman's Bandana
      Lv.10 Brass Cap
      Lv.10 Brass Hairpin (optional; macro out to defense gear after you use up MP)
      Lv.11 Entrancing Ribbon (free!)
      -------------------------------
      Lv.15 *Republic/Bastokan Cap
      Lv.15 *Kingdom/San d'Orian Bandana
      Lv.16 Bone Mask/+1
      -------------------------------
      Lv.20 Silver Hairpin (optional; macro out to defense gear after you use up MP)
      Lv.21 *Beetle Mask/+1
      -------------------------------
      Lv.24 *Iron Mask/+1
      -------------------------------
      Lv.29 Eisenschaller/Kampfschaller**
      -------------------------------
      Lv.40 *Iron Musketeer's Armet

      A Paladin lives by his armor; it's a pain, but I highly recommend upgrade to something better as soon as you can wear it. (Yes, that means five upgrades between Lv.9 to 30 for head gear alone.) Just remember that most of your defense comes from Body, Legs, and food. Those have priority over the head slot if gil supply is tight...

      Kampfschaller is probably the most expensive item on the list, but it lasts 11 levels, so is a pretty good investment. Hairpins are really for Galka and maybe Elvaan characters; as Hume, ou probably won't be needing it.

      Try this site for researching armor: http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/advanced.php Put in your job, race, item slot, and the level range, and it'll return a nice list for you. (Ignore the gil for sale ads, of course.)
      Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
      yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
      Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
      leaving no trace in the water.
