  • Head pieces

Paladins commonly have three major pieces they could use

    Koening Schaller
    Valor Coronet
    or Adaman Barbuta

if i have these three, is it worth it to just get rid of my adaman barbuta because if i want VIT the Koening Schaller will do the dirty work for me for stuff that may hit me very hard, and for everyday use just use the coronet?

One thing you should add to your collection (assuming you have the wherewithal to get one) is Aegishjalmr from Fafnir. Otherwise the Valor Coronet and Koenig Schaller should probably take care of you. I don't know of any PLD75s that use the adaman barbuta by choice when they have other options.

I would sell the Adaman Barbuta and go between the Keonig and Valor.

As far as ultimate goals on head pieces, like Icemage said, Aegishjalmr and Bahamut's Mask would probably replace all head pieces for me if I were able to obtain either.

One possible example of this would be Galka PLD's under occasions of seeking extra MP, while also having some degree of Enmity, DEF, and HP. However, swithching gears of other slots, such as rings, would probably be more than enough for most of the times. And I don't know anyone choosing Adaman on purpose, either.

Besides, although I also have Koening, I always use Valor.
Why? 'Cos that "helmet" looks gay on male Elvaan lol

And a friend of mine who has full Koening never put that helmet on for the same reason.

I guess you are all right on those aspects. I would love to get that head piece from Fafnir, but my Tu'lia linkshells break before they evolve into a Ground HNM hunting type linkshell.

However I have two of the best pieces at the moment for a PLD.

But receiving 200k gil in exchange for the item would give me some needed stuff for my other jobs.

You don't need the adaman piece. The Aegishjalmr is a nice piece to shoot for.

IMO, the hands down best piece is Valor Coronet +1. But, the Koenig piece has its good points and easily rivals the AF2+1 piece and is far easier to obtain.

              Re: Head pieces

Adaman gear is overrated, I compared it with the Gallant gear and not all pieces are that great.

The body piece for example is roughly a toss up between +HP and +MP. Adaman gear gives MP for some reason. And Gallant has some Healing skill.

From my full AF set, I only added Adaman Gauntlets and Leggings. But I also managed to get Valor Coronet, and seriously Adaman is no competition for it for any PLD that respect themselves.

Koenig gear is majorly nerfing the already limited damage dealing capacities of the PLD, which makes it perfect for the 'mega-tanking' situations of HNM/Dynamis and the like. Basically, if you have lots of DDs in your group, let them do the work, sit back and soak it up like noone else can.

Merit parties are like a toatlly different game, so lots of PLDs go for a bit more damage than defense, especially against the pesky imps. If you can't tank properly because your DDs are spamming WS for 1000+ damage a shot, its very hard to keep hate on those, and beside the mob doesn't live long enough to matter all that much in the end.

Adaman gear is good for a Galka (maybe Elvaan) because they are a little more MP minded than other races until they start obtaining better end-game gear. At which point, you should not be wearing a single piece of adaman gear.

I think the last adaman piece I got rid of was the adaman leg item when I got AF2 legs and later on w.legs.

How you gear yourself depends on the situation at hand. In DD situations, I swap in pieces that will give me the most bang while keeping a lot of enmity on so my lesser hits can still keep good hate.

Hehe, I agree with that, somewhat. I mean its better to get the best gear, but I was so glad when I got rid of my Iron Musketeer helmet to my Gallant Coronet, I was finally able to see my own face

                    Re: Head pieces

I just sold my Barbuta, I use Valor Coronet as my standard peice and hope soon to be using Koenig for HNM action. Aegishjalmar is another nice peice if you can get you hands on it.

What I would mention are the joys of having a optical hat for DD work and the voyager sallet for WS. My next most likely head will be Bahamuts mask, a tasty little bit no one has mentioned yet -

                    Def 32
                    Enahnces Dragon Killer Effect
                    Enmity +8

Drops from the second Bahamut fight I think
