Regarding the Cover ability.

Hello everyone.
Yesterday i was duoing with a friend of me, in Garlaige Citadel. Me paladin, and she Red Mage.
Everything was going on normal, until it happened an odd thing.
I used Cover on her, and the ability went through, then, she started casting Slow, and this phrase appeared on the chat log:
"Cover! Otrela starts casting Slow on the Siege Bat".
The Slow went through too, but why did that phrase appear?

PS- i am paladin lvl 44.

I have the screenshot, if anyone wants to check it, i can upload it.

Someone more experienced with Cover might have another suggestion (I haven't played PLD since early 2004), but I think it might just be one of those weird things you see every now and then, like resists on things that shouldn't/can't be resisted, or weird intimidations or something.

Maybe is because she was using a spell while i was covering her... but it's senseless! Oh well...

Yeah, I don't get it either. It's happened when I or a party member would cast a spell while the PLD would use cover.

Cover is kind of like this one ability in WoW for Paladins where the Paladin "sacrifices" him/herself. Basically, anything that member does is fed to the monster as the Paladin did it. Same thing in this situation. That message suggests the Paladin casted Slow on the bat (So it's telling the Bat the RDM isn't there)

Cover does two things:

-Paladin assumes damage for the player he/she is covering.
-Paladin also (if successful) assumes all activity for the player he/she is covering.

Now, I'm not sure if it's just spell casting (like in this case) or if it includes ALL abilities (JA, WS, etc.) or it it's based on a random chance or based on some Paladin's skill level (There's a sword for PLDs which gives +cover)

Well, I've seen those odd messages as well, though it's when the person I'm covering is the target of a spell by another player in my party. It's usually been too busy for me to tell, but I think I've stolen refreshes and regens meant for other players >.> I assume these are just bugs in the display output code, and not actually stealing the effects, but I could be wrong.

Cover by itself only blocks physical attacks. I have noticed a delay between when you activate Cover, and when you first block an attack. Seeing a big WS move being used on someone, and trying to Cover them, usually fails.

With the AF Coronet, Cover can block magic as well. It can be WS based magic (Poison Breath, Undead Mold), or casted magic (Flood, Paralyze).

With the Valor Surcoat, Cover gives back 20% or 25% of the damage you take during Cover as MP. It does not reduce the damage you take.

With the Save the Queen sword, I do not know how it effects Cover.

Save the Queen: Cover +1 is just a lengthened time frame. Which also activated the latent effect: Accuracy +20

Note, there's no rhyme or reason to how cover work if this is the case, because I have seen attacks go "through" cover before and sometimes cover doesn't mask my activities and instead things get exacerbated (Like I steal hate and when cover is worn, mob goes back to me, not the pally)

Of course, it could be back when it might've been buggy, but I read patch notes and never saw such a thing mentioned...

cover text is really buggy. I had "Resist! Feba starts casting Sneak on Feba" appear once, same thing. It's not really a big deal, and it's fairly common

If that's the case, then it's server side errors which then begs the question ... just how accurate is the server feeding our client the information?

It would probably be best to ask the Windower devs, especially Cliff, as they would know the most on the subject (outside SE, who wouldn't tell you)

It's just a very small text glitch that's really not worthwhile to fix. It'd probably take a lot of toying around with the servers, and I'm quite certain players don't want every server down for like.... a week so they can re-test completely and thoroughly.

Probably. And really, as long as the ability still works, it doesn't really matter.

ya, just today i had "Resist! The Yhoator Mandragora uses Dream Flower but misses <player X>!

and i had a similar text problem w/ cover once, but i cant remember what it said...
