  • Stop me if you've heard this one before.

A little backround on how I keep hate before I start to rant.

I do your standard Voke >> Flash >> Sentinal >> Cure >> Et cetera.

As a Paladin I know full well that I can and will lose hate sometimes. It's just a fact of life. So, as soon as I get into a party I chat with the DD for a bit and lay out some guide lines so they won't take hate away from me. Here's what I say, "Wait until the second voke before you go ape shit on the mob." Most take that very well and listen. But every so often you get a DD or two that feel like they just have to prove a point.

So here's what happened. I'm running out to Pashlow to do a little bit of farming for my Glut sword and I get a tell.

    Leader >> Party?
    Sky >> Sure. Where?
    Leader >> Don't know yet.

So, I pull out my warp scroll and warp on out to Jeuno and get invited. Not long after, the Leader invites a MNK and a RNG. Oh joy. So here's the first thing I say, "Ya'll two wait for the second voke before going off on it, ok?" I get the usual {All Right!}. The RNG mentions somthing about a NIN and the first signs of a bad party begin to emerge. I forget exactly what he said aobut ninjas, but here's my response.

Sky >> Ninjas can't keep hate very well, it'll go all over the place.
RNG >> My main is Ninja. >.>

Now we're off to The Boyhada Tree to try out a spider. It's kinda risky with a 49-51 Party, but we went anyways. Well, long story short, I used invincible on the first spider, then it was decided that the place was too hard. But I liked of hat I saw from the DD.

Now it's been decided that we're going to The Quicksand Caves. The first couple of fights go well, but then the MNK starts up. Before the second voke the MNK unleashes Raging Fists and he gets hate. I'm able to get it back, but I tell him to wait on the second voke.

Well- No one likes teamwork apparently.

Now the Ranger starts pulling nonstop and we don't have a RDM. So I'm always lower than 50 MP. I tell him to slow down so I can get enough to keep hate:

    RNG >> MMM, nah.

Same pull the MNK runs up before I even voke and does Raging Fists. Then the RNG unloads on him.

Sky >> Stop. Remember what I said about hate earlier? "If you really want to tank then I'll let you have it."

the Ranger starts to get a little smart assy.

    RNG >> Fine, you DD.

So, I do. Hehe. The Ranger goes off and pulls a beetle and when he comes back I don't voke. The Ranger does nothing. So, the MNK gets the hate.

MNK >> Well are you going to voke?
Sky>> I thought the Ranger was tanking.
    MNK>> Well, he's not. I am.
Sky>> Well, you better tell him to get it offa you.

Then at the end the ranger finally pulls out his bow and finishes it off.

Sky>> Why didn't you tank, Ranger?
    MNK>> 'Cause I wouldn't let him.
RNG>> Fine, you don't want me to use my skills. fine.
Sky>> No, I didn't say that. Just wait until the second damn voke.
MNK>> Fine, i'll just tank. I'm better anyways.

    SNAP!

Sky>> The Ranger did nothing that last fight.
    MNK>> Whatever.
    Sky>> Screw this.

That's when I leave the party. And that's when the screaming starts. The following has been edited due to language.

RNG>> You're pissed 'cause you can't keep hate.
Sky>> Well, I now damn well I can't keep hate if you have a ****ing death wish you stupid ****.
    75 DRK>> What the *** are ya'll screaming about?
MNK>> The {Too Weak} PLD is ticked that I'm a better tank than him.

((Trying to retain some dignity, but failing))

Sky>> You know what's funny? The RNG did NOTHING that last fight you ****ing moron.
    MNK>>> **** you!
    Sky>> Psh, I don't need this.
MNK>> That's right, you better run before you tick the wrong person off and get banned by a GM.
    Sky>> The wrong person?
    Sky>> Try it.
75 DRK>> Take you're screaming to tells, no one wants to hear this.
65 THF>> ((It's pry best if you just left.))
    RNG>> Thank you!
    Sky>> Hey, I didn't start this.

Well, I just left after that.

My point is that no one like teamwork anymore. If I do every thing in my power to keep hate and you still take it, I'm not the one doing anything wrong. You have to work together in parties. I'm sorry to the DD, but your damage doesn't mean diddly-squat if you die.
"Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're Mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be", said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Welcome to Alice in FFXI =P

    xD
reminds me of a 65Blm I PT with once. She insisted on doing freeze MB with a ninja tank.
She got hate of course. And to make it worse, she kept cure 3ing herself to generate more hate
    and died
    and HP
    and left the PT
    and said we suck ^^d

If your lvl listed is correct, then you'll probably hold much better hate when you get your full AF. As far as I know, at that point, DDs can do almost anything they want and not get hate off of a pld (within some semblence of reason). Until full AF though, and especially if you don't have a refresh on you, it's going to be hard to hold hate if the other jobs are geared up (or make it especially hard on you by WS at the beginning of fights). They were just stupid, and probably figured they could get away with badmouthing you and causing trouble because Nins are so superior in most everyone's mind.

OT, the title of this thread made me think of this!!

Its not that bad :p. i gotta admit as a mnk i used to like it when i stole the hate but thease days it hapens all to often, i would never try to piss off the tank or anything tho. Whats worse was the party where it was 3 blms or so a war a mnk and me as thf there the war was tanking but refused to let me sata him so did the monk, so i was basically not able to use my main dmg ablites, then the blm was being all arogant and saying your only a filler the blms do all the dmg.
lol i hated blms since they all seem to be idiots for the most part :/.

As someone who's played tank and DD for the past 3 years of my life, I can attest the truth of this. If I'm tanking and a DD is being stupid with his hate, I don't mind if he dies. If I'm DD and I do something I know will get me too much hate, I don't mind if I die. Don't let it get to you much.

Your RNG was still a prick [worse words come to mind but i'd rather my warning points stayed where they are] but it's fine if they get hate every once in a while. Though not having a RDM meant that party was never going anywhere.

It seemed to me that in the RNG's mind, his pulling with you unable to get mp was proof of how much better his NIN is than any PLD. And he's right... oh wait, no he isn't. Because he didn't take into account that PLDs cannot function as well w/out refresh. So yeah, a 'tard.

One more thing: more proof of how stupidly in love your RNG was with his NIN: any good NIN knows that PLDs hold it better. It's not an insult to say NINs can't hold hate as well, as much as it's an insult to say MNKs outdamage WHMs.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

Re: Stop me if you've heard this one before.

OP: You'd do well to find yourself a good static. All the benefits of leveling with none of the retarded people who are determined to make your day suck. If you can't find one, always remember that if you're doing everything you can to keep hate and you're still losing it, it is not your fault. The most trouble I ever have anymore is when my BLM decides to MB Ancient magic during a SC at the start of a fight. She's suicidal though, and her many deaths are kind of a joke to us by now. To sum it up, some things are just out of your control. If it happens, let the person responsible die while you make witty remarks about how awesome their defense is.

Re: Stop me if you've heard this one before.

DD can be stupid. Rangers are still butthurt after the balance, and Monks suddenly feel like the most important people ever because of their raw DoT.

Yea, if they want to pull hate let them deal with the consequences. If they don't figure it out sooner or later, well just call it natural selection. Mid game is repelling the stupid players, don't be an enabler and let him in!

Re: Stop me if you've heard this one before.

On my WAR, if I PT with a shitty tank (not saying you are one), I let lose with WS, and ride it out on shadows. Sometimes, they don't last. But if the tank is making no attempt to grab hate other than just a voke (talking about PLDs and NINs that don't use spells), I get hate the WAR way. Straight up damage.

No tank should be expected to hold hate AND mitigate damage while the melees are going batshit insane, but I have no guilt taking hate off if the tank isn't even trying in the first place.

Oh, and on BLM, before I quit i'd get a feeling of the hate line. Sort of a sixth sense where i'd knew when i'd get hate. I'd usually abuse it to take one swing, then the tank would get hate back and i'd drain. Good damage *AND* a free hit -.^
Makes the WHMs freak out sometimes, but eh. My BLM can tank anything.

Me too. I've already apologized in advance to the PLD I exp with all the time in my linkshell. Once I hit 70 (31k exp to go) I gain 10 accuracy and lose -7 enmity... As it is, I already rip hate off of PLDs if we fight anything that doesn't give us 200-250 exp a kill.

Same here. I loved abusing that line. I always used it so I'd know how much damage my drains were doing when I got curious. I knew what would get me hate as BLM, but as melees, I have a harder time knowing. Sometimes I pull hate with melee hits, sometimes the (same) PLD keeps hate off of a WS... At least in general, I know that if I use berserk on an VT or lower, I will pull hate. I try not to pull hate (I do wear -enmity gear too!)

I think the whole situation that the original poster told us could have been dealt with better (and he knows it too). But the RNG was being annoying, and the MNK shouldn't think that just because he can hold hate when nobody is trying that he's a better tank. Especially since I can promise he'd be taking more damage than a paladin, sucking up what little MP the party had.
