    Re: Paladins a doomed job?

My experiance with paladins in exp as a whm, thf and rdm is a bit shakey to take sides on.

From my whm view, tiring and last choice in tanks to get. Unless they are focusing on getting hate and building def with their job they can be more mp draining than a nin w/ no shadows, even with Regen 3. Best party with one had to pulled chain 4 tops.

From thf view, gotta love them, i can get away with SA WS more often than having to TA WS. But there are the occassional drk and mnks that means i gotta TA WS, but oh well, a tank is a tank, thf just makes sure of that with the spike in dmg. As a thf, nin or pld both good, and can still make the same chains more or less depending on refresh and other parties around. And there was this one time were we had a bishie one that left us in the middle of a link that just warp crudgel and died on landing >.>; wasn't too good of doing her job either i might add. Wasn't good at focusing at her job either... kept spamming for me to do this and the others in the party to do that, heh, hearing she died at her hp was the best moment in that party.

As a new rdm(47) to the refreshing game, I'll take them long as i don't end up having to cast refresh 5 or more times per cycle and still trying to keep up with enfeebles/debuffs before the mob is dead. But if i had to main heal them as a rdm, nope, not unless there was a brd or cor in the party.

So it's just the kind of setup and if i partied with them before or not. Experiance and knowledge makes the job, not the style it is.

All I can say is pre-70 PLDs should be defence biased but post 70 is different. In full DD kit in a 74 - 75 party in Caedavra we were chaining to around 25 - 35 and yes its tiring as we operated as a roaming party with the WHM pulling.

You shouldn't run out of MP doing this as a WHM and the rest of the party can sustain it easily.

I hate the old mage it's hard work moan, every other player is working in the party, why not you?

I finally just gave up, Sold All my DD gear for my PLD. Pretty much retired my pld in general cause i was sick of all the backhanded comments I was getting at lvl 75. Now I'm lvling nin, having alot of fun. Kinda sad, took me awhile to get all that gear... Least I can actually play agian now though
"how broken everything about ToAU is."
"Do you have Haruhi in your daily anime diet?"
"ok... I've quit 5 times... and failed each time miserably... they need a patch for FFXI like those nicotine ones...."

Shame dude, I refuse to retire I form my parties and prove the world wrong. PLD forever, they can take my sword and shield when they pry them for my cold dead hands.

Everything they say we can't tank I tank, I've not taken on the HNMs yet but everything else I've tanked and won. My damage output is only behind tier due to WS damage I see some more STR for macro coming soon.

Brothers we shall over come, and if not it'll take em weeks to kill us.

I kinda did the same thing. I pretty much only do experience point parties if my
LS members ask me too. I never lfg any more. I am also leveling Ninja and I have
to say it has been really fun so far. Being able to solo experience at a decent rate
really appeals to me, and more merits = better Paladin Also, I am kinda selfish
and want to tank the things that people think are better for Ninjas.

I would never retire my Paladin though. I will probably always use my Paladin to tank
HNM and do endgame events with my Linkshell.

I apologize that you've not had the chance to party with a good one. To be quite honest, healing is your job, so complaining about having to do it is kind of pointless. However, I know how it feels when you're the support and your tank has holes in their armor. I try to help in the healing area as much as I can, healing the puller as she comes in, flashing then using cures on party members after AoE etc. Guess it all comes down to the party and who's willing to do what, eh?

Refresh them every other cycle, that's what the RDM in my static does and I never have MP issues since Auto Refresh. Our static is set up so that he always has alot of Refresh going around, and since we got our boost, he's been able to relieve himself of the pain in the ass that is the Refresh cycle somewhat. With that strategy I can keep my MP up and hate on me just fine. You might want to let the PLD know about it beforehand though, so they don't go and blow all their MP casting Holy or something silly. >.>

As for the rest of you former Paladins, you make Clown sadface. D:

I know it's pointless to complain, but it's hard not too. Though there has been two good plds i've seen, one manages her mp per hp cures very well (considering i had more or less "forgotten" i had drg subbed :x ). No deaths and little down time. Another one was one that meleed using club and used moonlight which not only helped his mp and any mage around him but manage to to make enough mp over time to have extra mp to mb a light with holy :3 Rare to see pld's like that.
