keep staff leveled. cap staff, bring out sword/shield so you can get shield/parry skillups. at 51 earthstaff gives +20%damage reduction, and at 63 you get spirit taker, which turns dmg delt into mp.

for fun, keep GS leveled, spinning slash is fun to mess around with

just some quick tips off the top of my head. oh yea, dont forget to buy flash for lvl37, its basically antoher provoke. you'd be supprised how many people at 37 dont know about that spell

But don't actually exp with a staff or gsword. >.<; Only earth staff if you're getting hit for over 110 or so damage, IMO. (Such as golems in sky) Level those ones up on your own time.

trust me, if you use staff in skillup pts and dont keep it lvld regularly, you'll hate to use it. took me at LEAST a month to bring it from 50-215. 2k exp is all it takes to lvl it up really. shouldnt be THAT bad in exp. but then again, i never did use it in exp anyways...

and i tired to lvl GS today in oztroja. got a whopping 1.5 skill up in an hour...love the speed of this game lol

Just remember to talk to the guards in your quest before heading to Davoi - got all the way to the end of the quest and forgot to talk to the guards.

              I was well narked.

Also you will NEED silence / deoder / invis when heading through Davoi for the quest, so take someone with you or go as whm or rdm so you have the spells to hand.

Did it this morning, was a complete pain at level 31.

                Re: planing on pld tips?

Just use a Gaxe as a Warrior, or if you must then use a one handed Axe and a shield. Your sword and shield skill will go up and cap every lvl as a Paladin, so don't worry about it too much before you need to. As a Warrior tank you'll want to lay some damage on the mobs you fight to better keep hate, plus Shield Break is totally sweet. When you do get to be a Paladin, level up the "Optional" weapons by yourself. They're for screwing around, not exp.

yeah really you don't want to use sword and shield as a warrior I remember I was a newbie and did that I had a hell of a time leveling great axe and axe after that also try to get your warrior to 37 if you can that way you don't have to come back to it to level again

                    Re: planing on pld tips?

My biggest piece of advice is to take Warrior directly to 37 before leveling Paladin seriously. Having to come back at levels 60 and 70 to get my WAR subjob up to 35 and 37 respectivly was some of the most painful time I had to spend in FFXI. It'll probably take you an extra two or three weeks, but in a few months when you're looking at level 60+ you'll thank yourself that you can stay concentrated on your PLD.

Not true... you can get WAR to 37 dual-wielding swords, people don't mind, and you still do fair damage.

No offense, but WAR/NIN dual-weilding swords is pointless and gimp. People definetely won't mind, but it really sucks. The damage is passable, but it doesn't come anywhere close to what a WAR/THF could be doing. There's no real reason to go WAR/NIN except to duo tank. Hell, Great Axe is better than dual axes early on. Great Axe has all-around the two best WS pre-49: Shield Break (Evasion -40) and Sturmwind (stronger than Slice, Hard Slash, Fast Blade, and Raging Axe; on equal grounds with Double Thrust and Tachi: Enpi, but Great Axes have far more DMG than great katanas and spears.) That being said, /NIN really offers nothing other than shadows, which won't allow you to tank unless there's another WAR/NIN. The best advice I can give to any new WAR is not to jump on the /NIN bandwagon right away; it has its uses, but it's VERY situational, and shouldn't be used outside of those situations.

WAR/MNK is the best at solo-tanking.
WAR/THF post-30 is arguably the best DDing sub for WAR 'til endgame.
WAR/NIN is for duo tanking, and MAYBE save your tank a few hits every now and then if the mobs are really hitting that hard.

Sorry if my post sounded like I was exploding on you, Tsikuro, that wasn't my intention

                          Re: planing on pld tips?

Level PLD with Sword and Shield. Level staff on your own, and if you need to whip it out on mobs doing a lot of DMG to you, then by all means go for it. Spirit Taker is worthless if you can't do dmg on the damn thing. Trust me. I have my staff at 258 right now and it's still doing crap dmg. No dmg = barely any MP given back to you. Aura statues doesn't hurt that bad if you have the right gear on you (having a high VIT and DEF total and having the right food also helps). I never exp'd with my Staff. I only use it againts HNM's, and since that's really the only time they're worth it. Sword and shield for me worked all the way (including againts the Goobues and Processionaires and whatever else mob everyone can think off that has WS's that will do dmg).

P.S. Armando, WAR/THF with SA Steel Cyclone on HNM has it's uses :-p.

What kind of food would I want to use as a Mithra pld? I don't really have much experience with paladin. I leveled it to 15 with my old character, pt'd with pld's some back in the day, but that's about it.

I'll look around the forums for more info, i don't want to start another pld newb thread >.>
