The job of a PLD is to hold hate, not do damage. Yes, I do see how PLD CAN be a damage dealer but, your doing it wrong. Take a look at this..



Sword Weaponskill Modifiers:

| Spirits Within |1 hit | Mod: Current HP% |
| Vorpal Blade | 4 hit | Mod: STR 30%, Crit Rate |
| Savage Blade | 2 hit | Mod: STR 30%, MND 50% |

Vorpal Blade is based 30% off of STR and thats it (higher TP higher crit rate like most WSs). Whereas Savage Blade, is also 30% of STR Abut also 50% MND, your a Taru right, Taru PLD has a decent amount of MND, I'm sure the performance of your damage would do more if you where using Savage Blade instead of Vorpal.

Moral of the story lol, Savage blade could be doing 200+ more damage per weaponskill then Vorpal Blade. Looking at your armor you have that right gear for Vorpal Blade modifier, but, "PLD dd 101" would be best to use Savage Blade.

Savage blade is VERY TP dependant at 300% it has a sidewinder type modifier(only other ws is full swing who does that @ 300%).

I mean you say:

but you only mention:

Maybe you should remember about Savage`s Modifiers. 100% , 200% and 300% savage are huge factors. Hence its not used for XP PT`s for DD`s.

but @ 100 tp vorpal straight out beats savage.

also Taru's does not qualify as one of the high MND RACES, in fact its near the bottom of the list if not the bottom.

800 dmg every 2-3 fights? too bad im doing 400-550 every fight off my 100% tp vorpal.

I Also gave a cheaper alternative for this setup. in case you failed to read that before you posted and giving your comment.


FYI: I have messed around a lot with savage blade with my RDM as well as PLD.

Yes, but I'm still tanking, where as a 400-500 damage will grab the slightest hate, a provoke or two can grab more hate and is every 30 seconds, how long does it take you to get TP?

You are just being antagonistic now Tipsy. I mean it looks as if you are just trying to nay-say all up and down the thread. 1st off TP modifiers aren't the only thing that affects WS dmg. Realize that STR plays a large part in EACH HIT dealt by a WS, Vorpal being 4 hits, Savage being 2. Modifiers are a part of WS dmg, but also the normal characteristic of ATK vs. DEF, STR vs. VIT plays a part as it does in all damage calculations.

Also just because Taru are considered good mages don't take that to mean they have high mind, like Weeee said Taru's actually have very low MND, not that it even would make Savage Blade a great WS if they did. I have a friend who's Elvaan(best MND out of all races) and his Savage Blade still does 50 dmg maybe at 100% TP on VT mobs(deco weapons at 74, without ATK/STR gear mind you).

In the end I think Weeee has the correct focus on his gear. STR and ATK first for ANY weapon skill. I would think you would know this by now being RNG, when you consider the fact that STR trumps AGI PERIOD when it comes to WS dmg on any of their weapons.

One last point, this thread is about PLD DD, not PLD tanking and how much damage they can do while tanking. That topic would be best left to another thread on maybe how to best balance your gear PERIOD if you are tanking as PLD.

Well ok, I'm not gonna start flaming, I have the worst stats for doing damage and I never actually tried doing damage (on PLD) aside from Spirits Within, looking at the modifier it seemed Savage was better then Vorpal.

It looked like you already did start flaming, but maybe I just got the wrong tone from your posts. It's sometimes difficult online, but I'm sorry if I came off harshly there. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying all PLD should drop idea of tanking and go DD, I'm just enjoying this open ended discussion considering Weeee is in a static where they don't NEED him to tank. I am just interested on further input as I have a very close friend who I have been trying to convince to do this for a while(with no success ). Carry on then.

Provoke definatly has something else to it. Not every person to use provoke has been equal in it's use. I've actually pulled hate away from someone using provoke doing that 400-500 damage right after their provoke. If the person is capable of doing it consistently along with flash on an occassion and the other defensive abilities PLD get they could easily keep hate imo.

Too bad brown & blacvk belt is only for monk

Quick tips

Stealing hate:

WS @ Start, flash, and it should do it. you will be suprised how much hate you can pull with /nin with this setup.

If you want to keep the hate in solid, use a ability.

On a Side not I got a REAL Fun thing for you guys.

I recently did the malboro KS30 with my pld, and we won it on our 2nd attempt, in which I bought the oscar Scarf off my group.

Now usually you use that for balista it does bind and such, I was just messing around in the PT and i used it on the golem, and it built a lot a lot a lot of hate.

The only catch is its directional, you need to face the mob or it has no effect.

Yes, I know black and brown belts are monk only. I just didn't want some monk to read this thread and "upgrade" his belt to a warwolf... especially if I have to tank for him afterwards. Monk with +enmity (|No thanks.|) That's why I said warwolf may be the best for some jobs, but isn't the best overall.

Warwolf is great for tanking and pretty darn good for DD too, except ones that can't handle the +enmity because they're already too high on enmity and not well armored (MNK and RNG mostly, but DRK/WAR fall in this category too). WAR (and PLD) DDs don't have to worry about taking a couple hits after they WS, and THF and /THF can actually use the +enmity with TA.

meh, either way enimity +3 wouldnt make a difference on a monk end game xping -.-, when they hit 80-120/fist, 150-200criticals on mobs especially.

but all in all clearifying this was the most important aspect, which you have on that post.

I like this discussion, but I'm kinda sad at how low your damage is capping. Especially if you say your 2 hits = 1 monk punch. I almost wonder how pld/war would perform in your DD get-up with Tatami Shield. And either just maining Joy or Company, depending on how crappy your joyeuse vorpals would be (Joyeuse against birds ideally). I don't expect a pld to achieve the damage level of a warrior with Ridill/Joyeuse, but I'd like to see them at least doing 70-80% of what a mnk does.

You have a lot of money in this DD get-up, but it's still not as much as typical melee would have in a merit party. However, I really doubt Flame Rings, Amemet +1, or P Charm would enhance your damage any significant amount. Can we put our heads together and think of a way to up pld dmg even more? Merit Greatsword? Maybe just some of the CoP gear? Full Homam set (impossible at this point, I know. Just bear with me) gives some rediculous amount of acc, but I don't care so much about that as the haste +12% and triple attack. Also, the incredible +hp/mp on the set is enough to keep a party going for a long time. Of course... In your set up it's hard to say what slots you want to lose for a measly 3% haste. So if you're still comprehending my senseless rambling, it'd have to be something like homam for all your acc needs, all other slots for attack, company/joy for rediculous tp and AHA!!!!

You're missing Heca gear for WS!! That would be a costly investment for such a silly pass-time, but I think it would help significantly. Particularly head/body, as your hands/feet are already very swell.

I've been doing PLD/NIN as a DD quite often ;o It's nothing compared to a WAR or anything but its still pretty good. I use Company/joyeuse, Haub+1, peacock charm, optical hat, etc, with attack food and a bard, I do 100+ a hit main and 70ish offhand. I can hold my own for the most part, I even outdamaged a 75 galka war once. I haven't used the job extensively, and am still missing a lot of gear (hecatomb,etc). But yea, it's doable. On a side not I prefer Swift, because it's incredibly accurate which helps immensely with attack food.
