I'm a bit confused at to why certain paladins wear certain earrings. Most paladins I see wear Agi+ earrings, a few of them wear the Mercenary's earring(Vit+2), but I've never seen one wear the Buckler or Parrying Earrings. I wear both the Buckler Earring and Parrying Earring because I notice the difference.

So Agi affects Dodge, Block, Parry, which are all good, but by how much? How much damage is reduced with an additional 2 Vit compared to +3 Shield skill and +3 Parry skill?

Now, when I'm using a sword and shield I can dodge, block, and parry, so it would be important to concentrate on those three. My evasion skill is constantly capped, so I use the Buckler and Parry earrings to help with blocking and parrying. When I'm using a Staff for reverse tanking will parry ever kick in? Should I then concentrate on evasion?

    Thanks.

    Re: Earrings

it really depends on race - in my opinion. As my PLD, I use 2 Pigeon Earrings because im a taru and taru's naturally have high AGI. Most PLDs who I see use AGI earrings are mostly Humes and Elvaans.

and the AGI earrings are also some of the only decent pld choices that aren't too cost- prohibitive. I'm glad to see you use the new skill earrings and I haven't heard of any pld hopping on them. Personally, I think I'd go for Merc/Buckler but keep me posted about how it works out for you.

        Re: Earrings

I havn't parsed anything but I suppose I can. The only problem is parsing it with all the combinations of weapons that I use.

In my opinion they work really well. I did notice a difference when I first wore them, but since then it's been so long I can't remember how much of a difference. Parrying is crucial, it helps stop attacks all together and can help save a badly timed cast. Blocking is so-so really, it helps to skill it up if you need it, but blacking really isn't all that special anymore. Blocking is better than no blocking though.

I suppose I'll buy a pair of evasion earrings for when I reverse tank raptors and torama.

I'm not a big fan of +HP. I've been into damage mitigation so far, but I suppose if it soft caps somewhere it might be best to get some HP as well. So far there's always been something better than the +HP in whatever slot I can get it in.

I mean, why add 25 HP when I can add to a stat that might save me ~300 HP in a single fight?

                Re: Earrings

The way I see it is that overall, most people do not have a very high shield/parry skill to rely on. They're not easy to skillup. So, rather focusing on a unreliable source of HP-saviour, more PLDs want to enhance what they can currently do. Add more HP, increases defense/evasion/etc.

                    Re: Earrings

I dunno if HP raises DEF, Evasion or anything like that. I know that it helps you stay alive againts gods cause some do a ton of DMG on their hits (1 shot ws's and what not). The thing is, againts god and HNMs, PLD's job is to stay alive longer. Thats why everyone says go HP.

Also, on the note of the Bucker earring (+3 Shield) skill and Parrying Earring (+3Parry), to be honest, I dunno. You need VIT at this point and until to this day I'm still wearing my Merc. Earring and I have the Titanis earring. I have 111VIT at 73 with Full Adaman, Durandal, Koenig Shield, Warwolf Belt, Merc. Earring and Titanis Earring. My rings are Jelly/Herc/Chry (never got around on buying the Topaz since I'm saving my cash for Soils). I found that if you don't cap either of those skills having the + skills doesn't necesarrily help you (at least from my experience). I wore my AF boots before cause it gives +10 Shield Skill and gives me about 264 (with 254 at my current level). Caps at 266 and i'm 12 behind. WHen I partied yesterday (without my AF boots), I pretty much shield blocked as much as I did when I wore my boots. But again, I need to parser this to fully know if that does work. But once I cap it, I'll prolly wear the Shield earring, AF boots and Shield Torque.

Morokoru earring + 35 hp & Cassie Earring for the win :D

                      But honestly, HP+ = HNM
for xp, your much better off using +VIT, lower that dmg curve.
I hate it but I switch my expensive sexy hp gear to vit gear, during xp. it puts my hp down considerably a lot lower than when im showing off '_'
but the usefulness is much better

                          Re: Earrings

Besides shield, evade and parry proc, AGI also lowers the number of critical hits you recieve.

As for hnm, try different equip setups and find out what works for you. Personally I generally go for enmity->damage mitigation->mp->hp, though of course different fights warrent different equips. I just have never found myself in a situation on anything that requires a large group of people where 100-200 more hp would've benefitted the group more than damage mitigation and enmity. Everyone has their own opinions on what equips work best, the only way to find out what is best for you is to try them all out.

personally if you cant afford Dodge earrings go for VIT+, its always a good thing to avoid attacks or have a higher rate of the mod missing you than hitting you and being able to take the damage, just never sacrifice VIT for AGI.

                              Re: Earrings

Well, last Dynamis run, I saw someone survive a hit by 1 HP. And yes, they did get cured in time before they were finished off.

But it wasn't a tank, so I doubt they can credit +HP gear for it anyway. In any case, that kind of thing is extremely rare (which is why people tell stories about it when it *does* happen).

My opinion is that +HP is good for the opening 300% Spirits Within, but the rest of the time it's not that good. I have 1300 HP as PLD74, without any +HP jewelry and only one piece of Koenig. But I don't actually sit at 1300 HP unless I'm kiting, so the difference between 1300 max HP and 1320 max HP wouldn't really matter IMO. Maybe once you get to +300 or +400 you start noticing a difference? Or maybe it is only an issue for taru, which would probably have 1100 or even less with my gear.

In any case, if you are getting one-shotted by a god, maybe you forgot to turn on defender (or didn't notice it wearing off)? Double/triple attacks, hundred fists, and even more so, magic damage are the big killers in my (admittedly somewhat limited) experience. Defense and VIT are not useless on gods, otherwise why would anyone want PLDs to tank them in the first place? Ninjas may get one-shotted if they're caught without shadows, we shouldn't be.

Personally, I wear Guardian and Hospitaler earrings. Hospitaler = more HP and hate for my MP, and pretty much any time I care about the latent on Guardian (i.e. trying to cast something longer than Flash while being attacked) it's on (yellow HP and <100% TP). -30% spell interruption is great. Mercenary is pretty nice too, I just found it not that crucial after Durandal and Koenig Shield - I have ~+40 VIT without it so the benefits are smaller relative to the other earrings, IMO.
