Is the Tatami shield really good for pld, i really dont want to buy one cuz its over 20mil i think on my server

Hmm, I'm hearing it's situational. Seeing it enhances any "Killer" effects that's out there. Also, reason why it's that expensive, it's because Gration drops it, and I hear he's really a tough cookie, dunno though.

The killer effect actually works on all mobs, regardless of whether or not you have a pre-existing killer effect to a mob type. When using my tatami shield I've intimidated all sorts of enimies that I have no effect on nomally. This actually makes sense if you've ever fought Gration, because he intimidates everyone that gets near him.

The proc rate of the effect is pretty low though, so I wouldn't count on it as a paladin. It's mostly useful for melee using a 1-handed weapon becuase of the strength boost.

THF/WAR like the shield too. As a PLD, I personally wouldn't use it. I prefer the +VIT and +enmity on Adaman Shield.

The Gration fight really isn't that hard. He's easy to kite. He's like a weak Kirin, just without the mini-gods. Just kite him around, and have the melee kill the giant adds in the area for TP. His worst moves are the high level Thunder spells, which are easy to avoid if you're already kiting him. Stun spell doesn't really work, and melee can be intimidated from using WS stuns. And one last thing, he has weird hate. If you run too far away, you lose a large chuck of hate. So every time you run out of spell range from Thundaga III or something, you lose hate. So everyone needs to know how to kite him.

Every mob is like that actually. The farther you are away from the mob, the faster your hate depeletes.

And does it work on NM?

even 1 in 100 hits, any hit not taken is a biggie in big situations.

Gration isn't a 100% drop either...least unless you're using HQ shield to pop him. It's a decent shield for farming and does have its uses. A free paralyze is nothing to sneeze at

LOL, so true, but is it better than like the effect with the Koenig/Kaiser or General/Admiral shields? Cause my Gen prolly fires off (when fighting IT beasts) prolly on average 2 times every fight. With this, it maybe good to use when fighting like small stuff HNM's.

One of our Beastmasters lent his Tatami Shield to our main Paladin for a run of God fights a few weeks back. He got numerous intimidations of the Gods and still got a pretty good block rate, but being a tower-sized shield it wasn't as good as his Koenig Shield.

I personally wouldn't use it for xp fights, but might be nice for skillups or God/HNM fights.
