Small shields block damage more often, while larger shields block more damage. For skilling up a smaller shield might be better.

Question: Right now (22 PLD) I'm using a Lantern Shield, the 4 Def Attack+5 one. Do you guys feel that the larger shields are a step above the smaller ones in terms of damage mitigation even though they trigger less? I mean, they ARE one of our defining traits, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're more effective. But if they're on equal grounds I'd like to hold on to that +5 Attack.
