Yep. All it does is reduce damage. You'll block way more often than you would under the old system, but overall... we got hosed.

Por paladins goot hosed, because they can't heal between the mob's attacks and needed the occasional shield block to do it.
Good paladins that can heal between the mob's attacks take significantly less damage over time than before.

Yeah, I love the new shield system... at my lvl when I get hit, its for like 70-100 roughly, that alot. When I block, I take like 30 dmg. With the old shield system id maybe get 3 or 4 blocks in an exp party. Now I block a few times every chain, and my shield is not capped btw. So I think that negating 300 dmg by not taking any at all, is way worse than now where I prolly block 250 a chain....

Its way better, and our shields skill up faster.

I think that MP is the number one thing Tarus have going for them, and while being a RDM, I have no friggin clue what AGI does, I'm sure that also factors in ^^.

VIT is really a null point at the AF levels, and I have seen a Taru successfully backwards tank a Lizard, and hold hate using only an Earth Staff. (I was watching my friend exp when he told me to look at how his tank was fighting They were easily getting chain 4s)

              Re: Tarutaru Paladin

Taru tank here ^^ didnt really have problems with one hit kills, until I hit aery's spiders lol... it one shot me for 800 damage one time, which is less than my full hp, but there is only so much hit hit sickle you can heal before a one shot happens ^^ I think I died to sickles about 3 times that night. We were level 68-69ish XD. But those spiders have been my first one shot experience since I leveled PLD. I do have a great team to thank.

I do prefer earth staff over sword and shield for IT++, which until recently was all that we went for, since once you hit 70 there really isnt much IT++ to find. I find that in general my entire party prefers when I go earth staff lol.... a lot easier on them. Not like my life is in danger without earth staff, but that we have to concentrate 'that' much harder lol.. yes our spt likes to watch tv while exping XD. Dun blame them ; ; wish my pc and my tv were in the same room too! We've been spt'ing forever tho across multiple jobs, so when our playstyle is very very relaxed and different from the way we would be if we're in a party of strangers.

Which brings me to the next idea: depending on who is in your party, what jobs, and if you know these people really well. You can do some crazy things with your taru pld and experiment a lot! it's a lot of fun ^^ so if you are ever in a pty of people you like and trust, do try different things with ur pld, like try all hp+ gear and vit+ gear, or mp > hp balancing gear etc. and see which play style suits you best ^^

Hmmm theres a long list of recommended food depending on your base defense and level, so I think the easiest thing to do is to direct you here ^^

Personally my food plan has been:

Boiled Crayfish > Boiled Crab > Fish Kabobs > Shallops Tropicale > Tavnazian Taco (when I need it)

                    Hey thanks. =D

I have gotten my taru WAR up to level 40, and I've been leveling my PLD, which is level 42 at the moment with some pretty neat gear and AF1 weapon, which isn't too bad.

                      Re: Tarutaru Paladin

The only time I've ever partied with a Taru PLD, was when I was sitting in for a friend one evening. He just got a party, and then something came up and he had to leave. Instead of leaving the poor party stranded, having to find another member, I stepped in for him.

The PLD was Rank 10, and from what I heard, he had mage jobs at Lv.75. So he had to have cap'd everything. Little guy did some of the best tanking I've ever seen. It was a shame that the only time I ever saw him after that, he was way too high for my character, so I couldn't get to really party with him.

I've partied with some damn good DRKs, and I did party with a Taru WAR my second time through Qufim. He was a backup Provoker and a DD. My buddy was tanking as PLD. (Elvaan) He would get excited when the Wights would come out, so we could pull and kill those. haha But the little Taru did decent damage. He had crappy armor so he couldn't have tanked for us. but he did his job.

How was it leveling WAR to Lv.40 as a Taru? That couldn't have been very fun.

It was suprisingly easy and fun to level Tarutaru WAR to level 40. And it's been even more fun to level tarutaru PLD to level 50. =)

                          Re: Tarutaru Paladin

                          For the record, AGI alters:
                          --Evasion, improves it.
--Enemy's critical rate on you, more AGI = less critical hits.

                          Windurst Rank 10. ZM14. CoP M5-2.
RDM->62 (AF Completed), MNK->62 (AF Completed).

As a +, AGI also improves % for Shields, Parrys, and so on too.
Personally I didn't like MP>HP, I did get 2 Physical Earrings but they were kinda meh. :/

My general take on Taru PLD is that: Early to midway on they may struggle where other jobs may do better. But at 'end game' they do extremely well. Through various items and food, they can get so much DEF and VIT that their race really isn't an issue, but they have so much MP that they kind of excell where most other races fall short.

Not really, I would think the opposite.

The problem with pld like any other mp on the go job, is that you need to be constantly filling that MP gauge. In the begining there are tricks like juice, and just living on refresh and ballad for a relatively small max mp.

As you hit the higher levels, your large MP pool is mearly holding your back because you're not filling it to max, unless a pt has to slow down and wait for you.

This is even worse when you're part of the SC and not allow to sit much. There is only so much refresh, and if pt gives you ballad AND refresh can do so much for you if it's a quick beatdown style PT, and no resting.

Near the end, an elvvan or even to an extent galkas will do just as well on MP while still out HP, vit, and damage a taru pld.
