  • Party member Replacement

Well it happened last night, I got an invite, "Want to replace me in this party?"
My answer, "Is the party going to stay together long?"
His reply "Yes we just started but RL things came up and I have to go."

I thought about it, and said ok.

I buy a teleport to Mea, I rent a chocobo (tele + Choco = 1k) and get to the camp. The PLD warp scrolls out. I pop a Shallops Tropicale (6k each) we kill 4 Hobgobs and the RDM says "I have to go." and warps out.

Well I say "I asked if you guys were going to party for a while. That food I used is 6k each." They respond "We are." I ask "did you know the RDM was leaving soon?" They say "Yes, but we are going to get a replacement." Now I am pissed! Why not setup 2 replacements at the same time! Well after 30 minutes of looking no RDM replacement. No replacement, party disbands.

I knew this would happen sooner or later. I am going to have words with the PLD and the RDM tonight when I get on. This nonsense made me mad before the update, then it was only 2-3k down the drain now though 7k for 600 EXP, all because people are inconsiderate.

Even before the update, when I am in a party and someone wants to leave and the Leader starts looking for a replacement I put a stop to it and grill the party. "Ok, when do each one of you plan on leaving?" If anyone says 1 hour to 30 minutes I say "Ok then you go now!" I get a "what?" and I say "We are not going to get someone for 30 minutes or an hour and then disband and screw them over, or have another 30 minutes of down time finding another replacement!" One person leaves the rest better be ready for 2-3 hours or that is it you go or I go!

So that is it the Leader of the Party, the PLD who invited me and the RDM who left after 4 kills those are 3 people I will not accept invites from in the future.

So how do you feel about replacing members?

damn.... I hear you man, it especially stings when you have to pay 2K+ to get there, I'm a rdm, I get tossed through PTs like a dirty whore. but I would always end or being in a low-game situation, let me explain:

The leader or a important member is close to leveling, for some odd reason they dont want to level up later but they WANT IT NOW! lol. But half the PT needs to leave and does'nt want to look like an ass for leaving the poor guy, and then the leader gets desperate, then he says this "I'll get that DRK in jueno and then I can get my 2 mobs" then I feel like leaving which I usally did.

lol and once the rdm leaves its usually PT disband. but I hate wahtching some one go on seek for 5 hours and get a PT that lasts 3 mins and they waste like 3K on it.

Whever I'm in need of someone to replace me I'll usually call in a replacement 30 mins before I must leave, and then disband as soon as the new Pld or Nin (god forbid ^_~) arrives so he/she can pickup the exp and the party experiences no downtime.

However, when I'm leading a party it's a little more difficult because some people will just say {Time for work!} and warp out, leaving us holding the bag. Typically, I will request that people find their own replacements, as doing all sorts of serarch commands and /tells during combat can be dangerous to the party - but I do what needs to be done.

Yesterday, I pulled together a nice party to go to Onzozo where we made some great exp. The Thief, Red Mage, and Black Mage all had to leave within 45 mins of each other, but I arranged for replacements to arrive and the ppl to stay so that there was never more than 5 mins of downtime - just enough time for a snack, etc. However, with 4/6 of the pt being Japanese (and my command of the Japanese language is limited to very rudimentary romanji and a cheat-sheet of phrases), when our White Mage suddenly says {Time for Work!}, bows, and warps out we're screwed. I'm not sure if she was discussing leaving with the other Japanese players, I can't read their hirigana or kanji, but the pt had to disband because we could not find another healer (and with Torama's spamming Paralyze and Silence Smn/Whm does not cut it).

I felt bad for the new Blm and Thf as they had only been there about 45 mins and then the pt disbands. I expressed my appologies to everyone, but the exp was good so I hope everyone left happy.

if my party has been going for over 4 hours i break it when someone elaves because chances are people are getting tired and need a break. Or i make everyoen go back to town so were we can find more people. if there aren't any peopel available then we break.

But I usually party with people I know so I know what their schudles are like XD

Generally I won't accept a replacement invite because as already stated, more often than not it's not going to last long. Usually if I wait another 20-30 minutes, there's another party that will be just starting that will pick me up and I can make full use of my 3 hour food.

I don't use 3hr Food in pickup. It's not costeffective when you die or when the party breaks.

Just use the almost same food for 30min. I'm sure there is a 30min Food for PLD as well it is for RNG (Yellow Curry -> Camel Pie)

If you're talking about Dhamel Pies, those are considerably weaker than Yellow Curry for a RNG (as well as melee). I don't know of any Camel Pies in the game.

I've had fairly hardcore party's lately, so I've always popped a Yellow Curry upon arrival, and there's only been 1 occassion on which I wasted more than 2 hours of it. I generally don't mind, though, because using anything less and seeing my damage drop by 10-20 a shot is something that irritates me (this is from a RNG's perspective).

For me, replacement party's have been most annoying not because of wasted money, but the wasted time. Time which could've potentially contained another party invite.

Well i don't know always the ingame name of the real animal

But the diff between isn't that great, that you neet to have go only with Curry:
                Dhalmel Pie Ranged Attack +27%
                Yellow Curry Ranged Attack +32%

Unless you need any RAtt you can get, then go Curry, but point was that: You will waste lots of money when your party breaks after a few kills. And i don't like to waste money when i can minimize it.

Like the others mentioned I always have 2 sets of food.
If the party is just starting up in Jeuno then I will go for Shallops Tropicale or an expensive, multi-hour lasting food but if I am to replace I will go for a cheap alternative like Boiled Crab.

Also remember you can log out with food on and when you return it will still be on like you left it.

Not to turn this into a food debate, but to prevent any misconceptions, I wanted to clear this up.

Although their percentages are not that different, the cap on the bonus given from Dhamel Pies is capped at 45, whereas the cap on Yellow Curry is 75. That is the main difference.

For PLD foods, Boiled Crab actually gives 27% whereas Fish Mithkabobs and Shallops Tropicale give only 25% (and Black Curry 20%). But since the later foods have a higher cap, they're much better than the Boiled Crab, which has a cap of 50 defense.

i HATE playing the replacement game

my worst experience was when i was leveling rdm in yhoatar jungle. what happend was i get called out from jeuno to replace someone in a party. i get out there, we kill 4 things and someone has to go and the party breaks. i forget my warp scroll so i have to walk back to kazham and change jobs to blm to warp. in the middle of my walk, i was again asked to play replacements in another serperate party and it breaks after 3 or 4 kills. so now i'm getting really irritated. i got back to jeuno and i was asked to replace someone in a third seperate party and the party breaks. now i'm just livid. i bitch out all three of the party leaders in tell telling them never call for replacements if more than one person has to go telling them that they're just wasting their time. and they just answer back with "but we did it before blah blah blah"

so that night, i didn't party because i was simply too angry to do so.

so then, i stopped playing replacements altogether. if someone in a party has to leave and the pt leader insists on replacements, then i'm leaving as well. i'm not going to waste my time waiting for someone to come out all the way from jeuno to the remote and far away area that the party is in only to kill 3 or 4 things and have the party completely disband. it's not only a waste of time for me, but the person who came out from jeuno, and the other party members.

and if i'm asked to replace someone in a party, i flatly refuse. i'd rather not waste my time killing 3 or 4 mobs before the party completely disbands. i'd rather wait for a fresh party that's forming or farm while i flag.

when i get into japanese parties, they generally don't replace people when someone has to leave. the whole party goes back to jeuno, everyone says their goodbyes, and the party breaks. and if the jp players want to exp some more, they form a new party with fresh players. many times, i end up in parties with players who were in the exp pt i was in just minutes ago.

replacing people is a waste of time imo. if someone has to leave, then it's better to go back to jeuno and break party and pick up fresh players if they're available. as was said before, if one person has to go, then it's highly likely that another person has to go soon as well
