Re: Food BS
In Valkurm your food of choice is probably Boiled Crayfish, which you can get for about 400 each at the pub in Port Sandy. Even if you die once every half an hour you're only losing about 400 gil an hour, which is easily recovered by selling even the cheapest drops off exp mobs. The rest of the time that food is giving you up to 25 more defense, more than double what Protect gives you at that level, causing you to take less damage, drain less mp off the healer, which is allowing your party to chain longer and faster and take tougher mobs, netting much more experience.
If you were higher level and using expensive food that lasts for 3 hours, you might have more of a point. The last thing you want to do is get to a party, eat your 10k Shallops or 30k Salad, then find out they're incompetant and die on the first pull and lose an hour worth of farming for nothing. In that situation I'd suggest testing the water; waiting a couple fights to eat or eating a less expensive, stackable food. When you get past 30 it won't be your role as often to sacrifice yourself for the party. Black mages get Escape at 29 that can bail a party out of any dungeon, and in open areas most parties should be able to Sleep a mob long enough to get a head start to the zone line.
