  • MP usage in EXP party?

Hi, I'm new tho these forums but have a quick question. I've recently begun leveling with my LS as a semi-static. I have been running the Damage Parser and noticed last night the RDM of the party used 2666MP throughout the night whereas I used 5374MP. And looking back at another EXP outing the same RDM used less MP than me.

Is it just me or should the RDM have used more MP than me?

The attatchment is the parser data.

Yes, a rdm should use far more mp than you. Not only do both of you have refresh, but he should be getting more mp from resting more than you. As well he gets convert every 10 min. So either your parser is faulty, your rdm was bad, or you were fighting some rather weak things.

We were fighting Sand Cockatrice in Cape Teriggan. We were all lvl 63. The prior EXP party was in Labyrinth of Onzozo and were were fighting Toramas at 62.

Well the Sand Cockatrice were beating on me pretty hard so I dont think they were easy, first kills were 168-203 EXP.

Well to be honest, I wouldn't actually doubt a paladin using more mp than a rdm. A mage having little or no mp is a horrible thing to have, most pt's try not to have the mages consistently drained of all mp. As a paladin though I feel like I should be almost the main healer in the pt. With a rdm you don't need to worry about having low mp, so I tend to just blast away with cures and leave the mages to other duties as much as they can, such as buffs(haste is something every melee should have, I don't care what job) and also making sure the monster has the right maladictions on as much as possible. Having blind/bio/other countless spells on a monster not only makes their job easier in the healing department, but my job and other melee's job easier too. Usually the only time mages need to constantly cure me is if I am at a low level compared to the monsters being fought, such as lv 60-61 in onzozo or something. Even so, I can pull out my earth staff and reduce that damage drastically. All in all, I wouldn't say the rdm was slacking off or anything, but moreso you as a paladin were doing your job well and making sure you are at the head of the curing department, and by doing so the hate department.
Why can't we bring all this back again? -Drew Seymour Price, 53drk

I agree with Ced about PLD kinda being main healer for themselves, but also, from looking at the parser...it looks like the RDM was barely doing anything most of the time, was he just meleeing or something?

He probably should have been doing a bit more from the looks of things, but also, it could be that if he wasn't using any damage causing magic (i.e. paralyze, slow, blind) at the starts of fights instead of any DoT's to start a damage reading. I've heard/seen lots of parsers have this problem, so really he may have been using more mp, it was just never shown on the parser.

I must admit that I do use a lot of MP in my exp parties (hence the purchase of a Dark Staff) but I really can't imagine a decent Red Mage using less than a Paladin.

My personal experience on Bahamaut has been that Red Mages, especially in the post-55 world, have either been amazingly fantastic or irritatinly hopeless. The good ones have everyone refreshed at all times, Dispel before you can even think about it, and use all the appropriate Bar-spells and debuffs for specific magics.

But when it's bad, man is it horrible. Having to plead for Refreshes (not just me but the WHM and BLM too ), never getting Dispells, letting people die because I can't generate enough enmity with no MP to cast with, and the RDM having the most MP out of anyone at the end of a battle.

I'm kind of venting here, and I realize that RDM is a pretty intensive job in the higher levels but seriously: HOW DO YOU NOT REFRESH MAGIC USERS?!?!!?

Rai if you feel your static RDM is not working as hard as he or she should be let them know, but a light tough always helps ^^~

Assuming you are using the parser made by Spyle, it only tracks spells that damage the mob or heal a party member.

It tracks Dia and Bio, but not poison, choke, etc.

That means the parser did not record paralyze, slow, gravity, refresh, protect, phalanx, stoneskin, blink, etc.

              Hope that answers the mystery.

I really wish we could get a NA version of the JP parser FFRep (used by the notable Apple Pie). I know there's a translation project going on, but it looks like it's basically stalemated. Blegh. I guess we just wait for Spyle to keep working and get it better.
