  • Cover macro????

I cant seem to figure this out. I've never really had to use Cover much but i figure i should have it just in case. How do you macro cover to a certain person or PT member.

In order to cover somebody you simply stand in front of them. So the macro will look like this:

    /ja "Cover" <me>

then go and stand in front of someone.

There's 2 ways to do it

      /ja Cover <stpc>
This lets you choose the needed group member with F1-6 then hit enter again to start covering, I prefer this for flexibility.

      /ja Cover person's-name-here
If there's only one person in group who consistently needs it, like blm or rng, you can just put their name down and change it around as your group changes.

edit: and yes you must be between the mob and the person you are covering.

        I do prefer
/ja Cover <stpc> because of the flexibility.. becase you'll suddenly end up with that some one gets aggro just before a jet stream or something...

cover isnt used on yourself. You have to target a specific person. I use /ja "Cover" Nameofmelee, on whoever pulls aggro the most.

Whenever I use cover I just type /ja Cover personsname
doesn't take that long, probably faster than the STNPC and saves a macro slot :D

Just out of interest how often does everyone use cover? I feel like I'm really rusty on this as it's an ability I rarely use unless someone hasn't been doing a good job of managing their hate.

i've only had to use it for black mages who burst with ancient magic. a few times i discussed with rangers when to use barrage, where to stand, etc. it worked out great because the ranger got to go nuts on the mobs without fear of death.

Instead of having to edit the macro at any time, just use this for overall use.

                  /jobability Cover <stpc>
                  /party Cover ~> <lastst>

So you can select which member of your party you're looking to Cover, and then it will tell the party that you're going to Cover them. No extra typing, and no ndeed to change the macro every time your party changes.

I find it good when hate balance is needed (to set up SATA) but you cant afford to get TOO MUCH hate with provoke or somthing like that. Can just pop cover on the melee and let them activate abilities and the like. I find it helps a lot with DRK doing souleater/last resort before a SC.

I prefer to use ctrl + J, pick cover, then use F2-F6 to target the person that needs it. IMO this is faster and more flexible. I rarely use cover anyway.

If you don't want to type people's names out you can just try:

                            /ja "Cover" <p3>

Or something of the like. I usually set mine to either the BLM if he/she is doing a strong MB or the last person in the skillchain.

<st> is select target, so you can target everything with this selector, while <stpc> is select target player character, which is only PC's.

                              I use /ja "Cover" <stpc>
                              /p Cover >> <lastst> <<

Just so I can tell the person I'm covering that I did. Usually this is of little consequence, but occasionally I do run into people who have no clue that I covered them.
