Low llevel pting and holding hate....

alright this is very odd but just hear me out, i have a friend who quit the game a while back, he didnt make it past 6 or 7 (BLM) yet he always wanted to play the game still but he wanted to only play with our small group of RL friends that would be playing it basicly 3 people total(we all know how hard this can be), basicly long story short he quit another firend that was playing with us reinstalled his OS and lost his POL ID somewhere, but they both wanted to give it another shot. I have told my firend that if he ever started playing again i would have Paladin ready to level with him (him being a blm you can see why i chose pld) well our other firend starts up a new account to and joins us so we all level 2-5 together its somwhat slow but it really is alot of fun...

our party consists of PLD (me) BLM and WAR now that we hit 5 we do have provoke from my firend but he doesnt understand the concept of tanking and fully what provoke does yet, to be honest it doesnt matter much for him as he will learn along the way as we level but he wont be tanking and we will only level together so no other pts need to worry about it, blah blah blah ok the real question here is i have most def and vit naturaly but with no provoke it really rough holding hate and trying to teach my friend to restrain his magic, he is learning quite well and fast, i am wearing the Pumkin Head II to attempt to help with its +1 Enmity but it getting rough to simply hold hate by DD+ Curing i tried pld/whm till 5 but i figure i may aswell go pld/war now so i dont have to come back in to town at 10 just to change it...

basicly what would you sugest in trying to keep hate better?

having war tank 5-10 isnt out of the question its just alot of work to teach somthing that will be eventually learned through experience (which i thinkis better than just teaching some one)

You can try using a Greatsword and meatmithkabobs. Maybe using juice to keep your MP up. I assume you'll take care of all the rest(i.e. telling the BLM how to hold back and such). It shouldn't be too hard to get your WAR friend to tank either. You can sub WHM then and be a gimp healer with pies and juice.

Yea thats what i was sort or trying to do but i was hoping that my curing would keep the hate sucked onto me but it didnt work as planned and i was thinking about the GS idea i leveled war to 30 and drk to 25 with a great sword so its capped for a long time i'll try using a great sword and some kabobs and i'll run through the more advanced things such as macros with my war friend i explained all this to my blm friend while he was getting used to the controls and while we were waiting for our war friend to update his FFXI, thou my blm friend is an avid rpg'er and is learning very well but my war friend hasnt played many rpgs so it will take a bit for him. thanks for your advise its a rather unusual question alot of people dont pt for 1-10 but if you have tried to leveled blm you wish you had one ^^
