  • Attack PLD? Tank DRK?

I've been thinking it over and seeing how it can be done.

Tank DRK would sub NIN, and kite, blink tank, and hold aggro with abilities and stun.

Attack PLD would need top Attack equips and would be Great Sword user until Lv64, then it will switch to Sword to open SC.

    Any comments/additions to my ideas?

A tanking dark and an attack paladin are kinda like mopeds.

Sure they can give a little thrill, but there's other stuff around alot more suited to the task.

ive thought about a tank DRK for a long time now. considering the fact we do melee damage unparalled and somtimes have to hold back becasue we draw too much hate. I cannot ask this on the DRK board becasue it will be a flamefest. i think it is possible.
perhaps DRK/PLD... ::ducks from the oncomming flames::

In my very last EXP party the tank left, and there were none seeking. I suggested the DRK tanking, because its so easy to draw hate, but she didn't want to lose Berserk, Last Resort, and Souleater. >_< oh well I had to powernap for 11 1/2 hours after the PLD left anyway.

            NO

just because it is possible doesnt mean it should be tried. A paladin tanks best. A dark deals dmg best. It's similar to trying to be a nuking white mage.

              Here's a thought.

Why does the SAM AF give +enmity and "Occasionally boosts TP when hit" if they aren't tanks...?

I have no clue, but they aren't tanks, ever seen a Samurai do too much damage with a Renkei. That poor, poor samurai never even had a chance.

Hmmmm, it is odd though. I wonder if they were originally going to be tanks?

I've never played a SAM, and I've never seen a SAM tank. However, I've heard it's possible (sorta like a MNK tanking in lower levels) if they have the proper gear. I mean, SAM DO have pretty good stats and gain access to a lot of the tanking gear. It's just that most SAMs are usually decked out with attacking gears, since...well, skillchains is what they do best . I'm not saying they're the best tanks, and I don't know how viable it is or until when, but I'm pretty sure a SAM can tank at some point or another in the game (and I don't mean Valkurm, 'cuz ANYTHING goes in there XD.) Or at least that's my opinion. A DRK/NIN tanking...maybe at the really high levels (WARs take so big of a beating they have to sub /NIN to avoid taking damage, and they can even tank with Berserk up.) I'd rather see a WAR tanking though >.>

I've had a Samn tank in qufim, but seeing as I was the WHM, I didn't like that. I had to use my FULL MP pool in one fight. SAM's can't be main tanks at a high level, maybe backup tanks for setting up SATA.

Sam can tank just fine, they just need gear for tanking. Holding hate, now that is a different issue.

Imagine for a moment how well a paladin would tank in Haubergeon, Sniper's, Coral Earrings, Kote, etc.

A few desperate times a Sam was used to tank in Dragon's Aery, yeah a Sam vs spiders. Absorbed damage with ease, holding hate was a bit of an issue. Also keep in mind out of the 3 jobs that get +enmity Sam has the highest Parry and highest Evasion. My guess is Sam was meant to be an 'evasive' tank, but players figured out that utsusemi was better.

A tanking Drk and an Attacker Paladin? Heh, thats like...a flying Aircraft Carrier..and a floating Stealth Bomber. Not very....pheasable, but it'd sure be interesting to watch.

I bet anything Samurai were originally meant to be some kind of tank, but quickly into Ziratt's release Ninja's just ended up being far superior tanks, so SE didn't continue down that path.

The Dev's had really bizzare idea's for the new jobs, especially Ninja and Samurai. Ninja's originally designed to be a backup tank, as probably was the case with Samurai. But in the end, we all know that its not exactly possible for a job to exist solely as *just* a backup tank. So SE probably just retweaked things so Ninja's ended up being variety tanks that can act a little like a DD in some cases, and Samurai's variety damage dealer's that can act like backup tanks in some situations. The emnity bonuses for Samurai were just left over.

drk lv 75 can be full tank without any problem , and we can start light renkei with axe (and get another drk to close it =P)
                              we only need haste spell and nin sub for both utsunmi and stuns realy shine when you blink tank ;D the only problem is we cant handle link or mobs who hit fast or mnk type mobs (even nin cant tank those ;

and it work cuz i already saw it
when i got sky pass i saw pt drk/nin rng/nin drk/thf blm brd rdm
when i asked the guy if the exp was worthy he said we get 7kExp/1h (i saw msgs also thats the mob stop attacking the drk sometimes thanks to arcana killer XD)

drk can tank only cuz of blinks si guess its hard for a pld to be strong damage dealer as a drk or even close
