    Indeed...

/p Woooot! I just learned Vorpal! Here I go with 300% TP!
    Gashbell readies Vorpal Blade.
    The Peryton takes 30 damage.
    RNG: /p LOL!
    BLM: /p WTF was that??
    THF: /laugh
/p Screw that, I am going back to Spirits -_-

That was my first vorpal. Even on worthless mobs it can suck. I have hit as low as 130. On average, it does just under 400 and as high as 750. I am hoping Swift blade is a lot more reliable.
    PLD 72 - WAR 35 - NIN 13 -THF 15
    BLM 42 - WHM 32 - RDM 25

    Sandorian Rank 10
    Zm13 complete

    Cooking 71 ~ Fishing 80 ~ Woodwork 55 ~ Alchemy 55

      it's not

when i was leveling with a pld in my ls, he said that swift blade does LESS damage when you gain more tp (we'd often make him do vorpal at the end of a distortion chain for darkness so he had to save tp). even at 100% swift doesn't do as much damage as vorpal on mobs you farm.

50-60 is nasty for everyone. Genkai 1 is the first real test for most players who don't have good connections, and AF quests are really hard when you're levelling through that range for the first time.

Fortunately, for people coming up through the ranks now, if you get to know some higher level players, you can (politely!) ask for some assistance. There was a time that wasn't even an option.

Even so, a lot of people end up so frustrated that they quit. 0-50 is a total breeze compared to 50-60. After that, it's relatively smooth sailing (or perhaps I should say, you're used to the hardships, so it becomes less of an annoyance...).

For those of you just getting to this point, all I can say is : Don't give up! You will eventually finish the quests. Just try not to tick people off while you're doing it, or it may come back and haunt you (most everyone at high levels know each other).

P.S. to Sadeira: Star Control II is awesome. I thought I was one of the only people who still remembered it.

Well I am currently Lv57 and things are okay.
Just the thought of me tanking HNMs at level 75 is enough to keep me going. ;o

I have no problems to hold hate + have another meele voke the mob of me before skillchain with a THF in PT, and others can voke it off cause I dont produce overhate. Meaning after skillchain with SA TA (on me yes please) I still get hit and not the DRK/RNG/something else which could be worse. Overhate sometimes kills too much amount of mp... keep that in mind^^ (much PLD tend to produce too much hate, and no in my PT not one mage did ever die)

I've been having lots of fun with Vorpal Blade myself .

Actually the first Vorpal Blade I ever did was 412 damage against one of those goblins in Gustav O_o. Quite shocking.

Vorpal Blade sucks unbuffed but really fun otherwise. I hit 400 even while XPing two nights ago on the Monastic Cavern Orcs. Surprising as hell because I averaged 100 damage normally with it (damn you high VIT mobs!)

Well i hit 60 with pld months ago back in april i think. I got to 63 and stopped i still intend to level it, but leveling 1 job all the time gets boring i like variety i guess. Ive experimented with most jobs they all get boring after a while. I think the main reason is there is nothing to do really to break up the making gil or xp grind day in and day out.

Woot, got to 50, and got invited into a static. Now, the big question is, can I get through 50 and get to 60? I will, I know I can, now that I have a static and with Promathia comming out, new areas to explore and hopefully new areas for 50+ to level on besides the usual areas. Anyway, I would like to thank all of the PLD's in this forums for pretty much giving everyone advices and help to motivate everyone to just keep on going. The minute we get to this point, it's all up to us whether we go up hill or down hill .

Heard about it a few times but never had it defined...thanks.

A static party simply means you always party with the same people. So instead of looking for a party, or make one, you get 5 other ppl (could be less, and you fill the spots once you PT) set up meeting times and go XP without wasting time.

Cool thing about a Static is that you dont waste time looking for a PT, and if you really work at it you can get the XP grind down to a science. No need to tell the RNG or whatever other meele they will be the trick partner, or set up a SC, or ask the BLM what his Ancient magic macro is and so on. Some practice and you will get the nice nice chain #5 easily, provided your teammates are skilled and have the gear to show for it.

Con about a static....people are people, feelings will be juggled, egos will be bruised and so on.

The problem with a static is sometimes scheduling conflicts. If you can't get yourselves together often enough, leveling up will go at a crawling pace. I highly recommend that anyone in a static party level up their subjobs on off-days, and have a second job to play on off-days if your subjob is up to par.

Yea, Kurg hehe as of right now I'm trying to figure out what to do on our off days when everyone isn't even on or not being able to stay on late. Leveling Sub-jobs is good (since I need my sub to be 37 ; ; ).

I know a lot of Ninja's and Paladin's that suddenlly dissapear or change jobs at the 50's, I guess the responsibility of tanking properly as well as doing it in they're own job's respective correct way is just too much for some.

                            Which I don't really get...but thats them.

After the last few days I can see why some paladins might quit at 50+. Eating up deaths for parties that don't give a shit as long as the xp is rolling in for them seems to be becoming more and more the norm for me.

Take tonight as an example, I party with some guys I don't know and a white mage friend who I trust to heal me well. They suggest we do spiders in the Tree so I go along and start merrily tanking away. Second or third mob sickles me for 624 seconds before a heal lands, then a crit for 113 or so and I'm eating dirt. My max hps at the time were 973 so I brush it off as a bad spike and following this the main healer is making sure I don't drop below 800. Half an hour later I eat another sickle for 750 or so followed by 78, and 79 instantly. I'm down again and realising that there's no way one healer can compensate for that level of damage. With the exception of my friend, everyone else, all of whom acknowledge I will die numerous times again with this set up, are telling me it's my duty to tank and earn them xp. The fact that after an hour or so I'm minus 100xp down doesn't phase them one bit.

In the past I could shrug this off but when you start losing 1300xp at my level, and 3k+ later on, you start to think, "Screw it, let some other mug tank and I'll go level my samurai..."

I dont think that dying from XP PTs is the reason why most paladins quit at 50 or so, since it can easily be avoided by changing the mobs you xp on. I really think the reason might be because the paladin got bored of doing the same stuff over and over again to keep hate. Flash > voke > cure 2 > voke > etc from level 37 till 50 might become very boring for alot of people. Apart from taking a break and level another job I think that playing with a heavey damaging pt (3x RNG, 3x BLM or whatever ) will freshen the tanking experience a little because it will requier a different play style to control hate in those specific pts.
