I also almost quit the game (not just the job) at 50. 50-60 was some of the worst times of my pld career in the game because there was so much to do and so much rushing and jostling (AF, genkai, etc). I was always worried about not being able to get my next piece of AF in time, and at the time I was too poor to get a Gluttony Sword -- and felt very inferior because of that.

After 60 though, there was another challenge..... even MORE exp grind. x.x;; Sometimes I don't know how I made it to 75.

PLDs get too much hate. There is no reason to have 80000 hate when all you really need is 1000

For me, there is no such thing as "too much hate".

Recently I have been exping with a RNG BLM BLM configuration and a PLD tanker. Whenever we pull off a sidewinder chain + double -gaII/ancient MB's, I am glad that our PLD is able to retain so much hate.

LVL 50 and still kickin! Course I'm stuck in Genkai hell but I have no intentions of quiting. I enjoy the job too much. Despite the monk in my static party constantly keeping me on my toes, I love playing it too much. Don't see much changing that. I think by 50 people get overwhelmed by Genkai's and AF/coffer quests.

2 More levels before I get to 50. Here's what happened to me Sunday.

After 6 hours of no invites, I finally got one. I was called to be a replacement. Then the minute I got there, group disbands for some apparent reason. So I Went back to Jeuno, seeked for another 1hour and a half, then finally got invited. Group decides to go to CN, had trouble heading to the caves where the Rumble Crawlers are. When we finally got there, we killed a few, then puller pulled a Helm beetle. Got me killed as the beetle dies. Lost exp, got raised and prayed that it was only a 1 time deal.

30mins later, puller got a link, BLM dies, then it went to the crapper after that. I died, the puller (SAM) dies, THF got out, RDM dies. AHh, bad day, group disbands, then seek'd for another 20mins, headed to Gidd when I got a tell from the same SAM that I was grouped with earlier. Got a group and got 48, then group was really tired (it was 12 midnight PDT and I think all were EC players) so we disbanded.

LOL why am I telling you guys this, I dunno, I felt like saying what happened to me 2 days ago and as to what happened to me thus far. But again, I think it was a bad day, and who knows, might get better as the week goes on. And this is not even at level 50 yet ; ;. Now I'm really looking forward on getting to 50 now.

            Ikari

P.S. But, having 3 of my friends (2 RL, 1 in game) getting passed 50 or at 50, it's making me want to get to that point as well. Don't want to be the only one that can't do it with my class. As I have stated before, I wanna stick it out until the end.

              When I was around lvl 51 I got a whooping 500xp in 2 hours with a PT...

Died 3 times in that PT, last one was because a crawler spawn while I was weakened, I join the fight to take it down, of course I dont voke or flash to avoid hate....then the THF SATA's me while I was typing to PT what to do...

Now, 2 hours ago I just got my last AF piece and are 13k away from wearing it.
What I am trying to say is, if you like the job stay the course. There are bad days for sure, but it cannot rain forever. ^^

Lawdawg has the right idea. If you happen to get a good pt or have several friends around your lvl try setting up a static party. I had a static from 36-49 then I had to do genkai 1/lvl up via pick up pts and ooooh man was that painful. If you ever get a good static pt going you'll never want to wait for pick up pts again.

Whats depressing is, dont wait too late to try to get a static. The best is to do it in the late 30s, early 40s (even though you still have to do genkai and AF, you can always do other things while your static gets the required items... or even work together!). The main reason? If you try to make a static in the later levels, its almost impossible. The main reason I can't get a static at my level is because most of my LS realize that a PLD is an inferior tank to a NIN... yes its true... don't want to argue, but the point is, with so many skilled NINs in my LS and on bahamut in general (its actually quite suprising) its very difficult to find a very skilled static. The best is to find people in the 40s (who have yet to experience the power of an awesome NIN) and make a static... dont wait, cause if you do, youll end up like me and have to go BST =\.

Note: Although I did get offered a Static PT, I turned it down because I realized with my current situation, (can only play a few hours a night) I would be too much of a trouble to the PT... so doing the best thing for them, I turned it down... it was sad too cause that PT had a RNG in them (and I loooooovvveee rngs). But bottom line, its not impossible to get a static at higher levels, its just VERY HARD, and pick up PTs will only net you 2-3k/hr which is just plain craptastic... static early, and youll be happy!

/em will not touch LawDawg's comment with a 10 foot pole. :spin:

You have to be careful with static PTs. You can't just "jump in" thinking "Oh, we got 6 people, this will work!"

You not only need jobs that work well together (RNG and THF come to mind), but you also want people all in similar timezones or at least have consistent play times. It is also good if these people can take criticism. If you plan to level with someone for the next 20+ levels, you want everyone to perform their best. And that goes for yourself too! You need to accept any criticism/advice to improve your performance as well.

For my static, I use my LS's forums to discuss what time we are going to be on (if at all), where to hunt, maybe discuss some strategies, etc. It works out real well because you know before you log in whether you need to make yourself free for your static or if you can go farm, craft or level another job... or not bother logging in and go see the light of day.

Genkai I is probably the BEST time to get a static together. That's how my static started. 4 of us had been a semi-static in CN starting around 42, and we'd pick up the remaining 2. By 47, we did mold in CN with an LS member who caught up and a great Bard. 2 of us got mold and we both offered to come back tomorrow and PT again in CN to get 4 more.

It makes it a LOT less stressful to know that when a papyrus drops that if you don't get it, you got 5 reliable people who you know will come back.

Needless to say... 4/6 of that static left (2 retired, 2 took a break). But, you eventually will meet good people and if they appreciate your skills as a <insert job>, you can probably start your own semi-static at least.

When I hit lvl 56, I hit crap party after crap party. Well, one day I met a white mage, who for some reason one fight decided not to heal me or anyone else. Well, I couldn't keep up with the Boyadha crabs damage myself, which lead to mine and most of the partys death.

After that I threw in the towel and went bard, figured no server can have too many bards, right? So I lvl both bard and whm to 31 and am set for Garliage, when I need to farm. So I through on my pld equipment (saved it so I could farm) and set out for battalia. Well while I was out there, I got an invite for my pld, didn't take seek off. So I took it, and have gone another 10 lvls with my pld to lvl 66. And to be quite honest am thinking about going back to bard for a while/long time.

It's not just plds who are changing jobs at 50, in my LS, theres a monk whos going ranger due to lack of invites, a whm going summoner because she went nuts and trashed her AF, then one member who has blm, whm, rdm, brd, thf, smn all in the 50s and just can't stick with one to get to the top of the mountain. He has a lot of CP by the way

I’ve been with the same static party since lvl15 and we are now lvl61 full AF.

I’m glad that I didn’t have to grow thru all the pain that some of you had to deal with.

Thumbs up to those who were strong enough to get thru the toughest parts of the game!

Yeah, it's really the hectic compounding of stuff that happens in the 50s that really get to PLDs and make them quit. The increased dificulty of tanking due to increased Melee Damage combined with redundancy in tanking also is a killer.

Thankfully, I found something to strive for in my 40s as a tank. To find the way I can do some damage and still tank as a PLD. It's incredibly fun trying to balance abilities and equipment on the fly to maximize my damage while soaking up mob hits. It's really post 60 now though since I get a WS that doesn't do piddly damage at 100 TP. =D

                                lol i thought the same thing when i got vorpal blade. -_-;;

You'll still do piddly damage most of the time. Unless you go accuracy gear + bard, but even than you won't be doing nearly as much damage as the other melee's.
                                Screw this game.
