  • PLD in PvP

Just saw a PvP video (Made in Japan), and have this thought.
If provoke doesn't work in here, will it make PLD/WAR useless, since it can't tank anymore and the damage dealt by PLD is not significant.

  • #2
No, it just opens up the options to what subs you want to use.

    pld nin (Blink pld)
    pld mnk (stronger hits)
    pld sam (multiple spirits within)
Skywise: Death due to S-E not likeing my cc for some reason after taking it for more than a year:

Now playing: Skywize- Back to being a PLD. Its good to be back :D

Which option will make you a best melee character in the PvP with PLD?

        once again, it depends.

Against a mnk, you'd want to sub mnk. Why? Added hp and VIT. Monks attack real real fast, so you want to reduce that damage as much as possible.

Against a drk, you'd want to sub nin. Why? Dark's attack real real slow, so in the time it'd take them to get through the 3 attacks blocked by Utsusemi, you could easily refresh it. That coupled with flash means a dark dies real fast.

Against a rgn, you might want to sub mnk or whm. Mnk if you plan to just tank the hits and hope you live through enough to kill the rgn. Whm for blink/stoneskin and added mp so you can keep yourself alive with more Cure IV's.

Against a blm, you're screwed. Stun + Bind + sleep. Fight's over. Sub rgn for a chance though (if you get bound, at least you still have some sort of respectable attack).

Against warriors, sub samurai (if you're 60+). Let's you spam damage, as you'll be taking damage better than the warrior, and doing equivalent damage (unless they use great axe, in which case, treat them like a drk).

Against a rdm, again, you're screwed. Then again, most things will be screwed against a rdm, as they have way too many things that give them ridiculous survivability. You might kill a rdm if you can end it fast, but the longer the fight goes, the more in favor of the rdm it becomes. Oh look, the rdm is starting to run out of mp....phalanx - convert - cure IV. They're back to how they were at the beginning of the fight...

Seriously, I plan on taking as many jobs as I can to 37 so that I can mess around with which sub would be best. I don't think we'll know for sure until PVP is actually released and we get to mess around with it.

Yes, it's something like a game of tag.. There is still a goal to the match though. The PvP they developed is called Conflict, it's a match from 1 nation vs. another nation. The info about it has been around for a good 2 weeks now.

                  The way it works

The way I see it they get to pick who they want to kill from the opposing team to open up a "rook"

So your goal is not really killing in PVP it's being the guy they don't feel like attacking so you can continue doing your job.

I think PLD/RDM will be my choice.

I can bind the enemy and walk away

I can blazespikes myself and really put a hurting on any melee charector that attacks me.

I can enThunder my attacks and do extra elemental damage against people with high DEF.

Plus the very high defense... flash.. and Cure IV.

Basically.. it's a timed event right? PLD/RDM does not die very fast... they can last quite a while.. and blazespike + very high DEF and VIT = The suck for any melee that decides to attack you.

Fast cast helps also... less time for people to bash or stun you.

Anyways... that's the route I will probably go. But I have alot to pick from with just a little work to re-cap them as subs.

                    woot 7 more damage ; ;

Phalnax will definitely help, stoneskin and blink will help you, mainly because you have enhancing skill on main. Your still dead to any rdm or blm, your low int doesn't help.

You guys are all just making stupid wild guesses. Why don't you just wait a few more days till PvP comes out, then you can wave your mannly-ness around to people who care?

We don't know what's going to change when it comes out, I for one think the damage will be cut in half if not more. Reason why I say that is because we hit so hard, that most classes would die in one hit.

Still if you want to go into detail about something that's not even out yet, don't yell at someone else because they came up with a idea and you think it sucks. All your ideas basicly suck ok? None of us know what's going to happen, how it'll happen, or what'll work once it comes out. So stop worrying about how much you're going to own some level 1 guy, and wait till it comes out.

If i know one thing about team based pvp, and i know quite alot, yet i wont speculate because iv not seen it in this game, but if there is one thing i do know and would say is probibly the same for just about all team based pvp in any game iv ever played...

Its that, as far as melees go, it really doesnt matter. You are all looking at this on a 1 to 1 situation, that just wont happen. This is what it will look like.

A group of players of various size will run into a group of other players of various size. At that point, every single damage dealing job will all go whack on a single enemy player, killing it near instantly, then everyone will swich to another. During this time there will be lots of AOE spells going off for damage and sleep, and then curagas go off along with benifictions and whatnot.

Blink is not going to stop 8 melees, flash can only be cast against one person. In the end its numbers, and how well Angry Mob 1 can coordinate its attacks against singular targets against Angy Mob 2, how smartly these targets are picked *ie, mages first because they can screw you up, then melees in order of usefullness*

Really for 1 on 1 against melees (i do not consider rangers a melee) a PLD may be pretty damn good, one on one it usualy comes down to defensive power, not offensive. But team vs team, its all about getting asmuch damage out there as you possibly can consentrated enough to effectivly take out single targets almost instantaniously.

These are general rules that always seem to apply to team pvp. It doesnt matter what jobs there are, more than it matters how well coordinated people are. Just think about 5 mages chain casting -gas at a clump of enemies, with sleeps throw in every now and then.

Yup, that's exactly how it worked in DAoC. Melee more often then not, just fodder. It all came down to the mages and what they could do, and how well *everyone* could work as a *team*. This is *team* based PvP, not one on one duels.

From what I observed Provoke DOES work... It makes the player automatically target you, and locks on you... so If you have a PLD on your group it would make the other player constantly target him... if you ask me, its very annoying, and not different from Provoke on PvM.... but im not sure thats just observation from the movies I have seen... we will see soon enough
