  • Requesting Some Nin Advice

First off I would like to say "Hello". I have come here to ask a few questions, as I have been told by friends and other people that due to what I like in the game that they feel I would really enjoy the Nin Job.

Currently I have Nin to level 33 with all Nin skills capped (i.e when i sub war my great sword isn't capped). The thing is I have never really felt that blink tanking was worth a damn pre-Ni. I also don't feel much like a ninja when I spam voke and utsusemi:ichi.

My biggest question is, when you all play Ninja, do you FEEL like your playing a ninja? With that being said *I* personally dont feel like "Hey! attack me! (voke) followed by Haha! You cant touch me! (utsusemi: Ichi) followed by whack whack whack whack whack(waiting for Ichi to refresh)" is what a ninja is.

Now I have played many MMOs and I am very familiar with the concept of a dodge tank, and they can be very effective. The thing is, well I guess I should say the "Things" are, First seihei are quite expensive when you consider how fast ninjas burn through them. Also, when you spend your time casting utsusemi:ichi and voke you dont get much of a chance to do much else. Your either voking, casting Ichi, or waiting, wishing ichi was back up. then when you finally do get ichi back up, its down again in a matter of seconds.

I know the ideal way this would work would be with a 2nd voke (i.e. someone to voke the mob and take the attention away from you while you recast shadows. The problem with this is, I almost never find a party that dosent feel like thats a waste of a spot that could be given to a dd to kill stuff faster. While in threory killing faster sounds like a great idea, but it dosent feel near as effective on the tanking side to me in those situations.

Having said all that, Once upot a time (when I was leveling nin and got it to 33) I was complaining to a friend about my seihei bill and that I dident feel like a ninja. It was at that time he, as well as the entire rest of my linkshell, said that if i wanted to play a "Ninja" I should play a Blu/Nin.

Do you all feel that way? Are there other people out there that feel like Blu/Nin is more of a "Ninja" then Ninja is?

As it stands I currently LOVE Blu however with my work schedule (its the busy season at work... and no I dont work retail... its because everyone is on vication but the same ammount of work needs to get done) I dont feel I have the time to properly play my Blu and have been looking for other options that don't require as much prep work. With Blu you can spend days getting spell, depending on the spell, and I DON'T feel right playing my Blu and not having at LEAST every single spell I can currently use. In the past I would put my LFP flag up and hunt spells while I waited for a party, and this works great, I would reccommend it to any Blu. (that is if i had at least every spell that i could equip) then If i leveled past a spell level I would obviously stay in the party until it broke up. Then I would spell hunt until I was cought up on spells again and then put my flag up again. At that point hunting the spells I would be getting next spell level while waiting for a party again.

The problem with that is that I am now 58, and most of the spells worth getting... require a group to get, or just plain take a lot of luck and correct circumstances. So now it takes a lot more effort to get the spells which I don't have any issues with. Like I said, I personally feel like I dont have the time to put forth the effort *I* feel it takes to play a Blu correctly. So until I have more play time, Ive been looking for an option that fits my current needs.

Any advice is appreciated, and thank you for your time.

SE didn't mean for NIN to be a tank when it was first implemented, but that is what it has become. If you really don't want to tank and just do damage put that in your search comment. You may not get too many party invites if you choose not to tank. If you are thinking about NIN in a sneaky/stealthy context you may want to consider THF... they can steal/mug, flea, hide etc.

As far as BLU is concerned, no, I would not say it is more 'ninja like' than a NIN. They are able to output alot of damage if that is what you are looking for, but hardly qualify as a NIN.

Edit: If you concerned about money for NIN, BLU is costly timewise, camping all the spells you need to effectively play the job. Time that could be spent making money via farming or whatever else.

One more thing... You don't need to make a new thread for every question that you have. I see that you have made several threads that are similar in nature. Just continue discussion in one single thread.

Agreed. And you will probably get less than 1/4 off the invtes u normally would with that in your search comment at level 33.

You know people don't read /seacoms very well near that level so he'd get a invite, show up, and they'd expect him to tank.

Cotners, I just started posting here and in past forum experiences (not here) I have had my threads move or get locked because they no longer fit in the catagory that they originally started in. I figured the safest way to avoid ninjaing my own thread was to move it over to where those questions might better fit catagory wise. I apolijise if that has caused any confusion but was mearly trying to keep the original topic on track. I do have every intention on following both threads, and will continue to post and read on the original thread. As I said, I just wanted to try and put questions that were extreemly out of the contect such as "does a ninja feel like a ninja" in the ninja thread and try to keep the "should i play a paladin? which turned into well while pld is good i think nin might be more your likeing" in the pld thread.

I know this sounds odd and I apolijise. I will try to keep this from happening in the future. However like I said i do plan to follow and post on both threads, I am not abandoning either.

If you don't have any job above level 66+ yet, then you don't need to have NIN at level 37 *now*.
