Restarting NIN from 41, seeking advice

I've gone over a bit of my job options for my current character and I reached the decision that I'd keep Kitten as straighforward as I've always levelled her. My other character has a load of subjob work, so I won't suffer retread on this one.

I took and left NIN at 41 for level cap purposes and for subjob. Hated it all the way to 36 and really enjoyed it after 37. Thing is, my gear wasn't so hot back then, but in those levels I guess it really didn't have to be. Did well, hardly died. But since I'd be approaching this a bit more seriously now, I guess top of the list would be obtaining more evasion/haste gear and ... level up that throwing skill I've slacked on for so long (I'll make RNG do it >.>)... and those Ni spells, need the rest of them (I got the important ones, so sue me ).

From the AH I can see a lot of things I'd be needing and I'll definately be persuing them as I'm able. I'm not starting NIN too soon, so I have some time to hunt extra doodads for it. I'd like to merit a bit more before I get started on other jobs, too.

As far as NMs and questable gear goes, anything I should be looking into? Got the swift belt from Sacarium, so that's one down. Had some katana from Temp of Ugg but threw it away back when I wasn't sure what the next job was (oops)... probably need that one again, just don't remember the trigger for it <.<; Tossed that NIN subligar from Phom Aquaducts... did I need that for any JSE?

Imho, the elemental wheel from level 40 to 50 has the most noticeable effect on performance. I would suggest to make macro for elemental wheel like:

/recast "Suiton: Ni"
/ma "Suiton: Ni" <stnpc>
/p {Suiton}: Ni >> {Water} {damage} >> {lowering} {Lightning}

I have partied with good BLMs who take the advantage of the Ninjutsu and nuke according to the elemental wheel.

And other use for elemental wheel is for Skillchain + MB. If the party is using Distortion, pause the wheel at Huton: Ni (wind damage, lowering ice resistance), then MB with Ice Ninjutsu, and then continue the wheel (fire -> water -> lightning -> earth -> wind -> ice....)

For damage output from katana, I would say the prime time is at level 60 with Blade: Jin or level 65 with last dual weird upgrade (DW IV). The effect is very noticeable when fighting VT ~ low IT mobs. Imho, the weapon/gear selection for NIN at level 40... is a bit too early for DD build.

Guess I'll go ahead and ask the dreaded colibri question. I know there's going to be bounced magic, in fact, the only magic that doesn't bounce of colibri and greater colibri is physical avatar and blue magic and COR's Quick Draws..

So it looks like from 55+ I'm going to need a more physical edge to the job. I have one rather amitious thought. I'm thinking of getting a K Club for RNG anyway, so if I succeed, I'd definately want to try it with NIN, though the idea is premature.

I'm going to be pumping merits into STR to benefit RNG anyway, so that will help NIN a bit. So I will be looking for other options improve the DD side.

But is there any trick to sneaking past a spell on Colibri? It can only bounce one spell at a time from what I've seen. I just hate the idea of forsaking NIN magic entirely, but at the same time, I don't want to cast it and have it eat a shadow.

lesser cobri's don't reflect magic only great cobri's do so your ninjitsu can still be used on the lessers

i think bbq asked about colbiri not lesser, Lessers are the only group in the family that dont have reflect (even thos its more like a mimicing ability). I have found that it is a good idea to still cast kryumani (i use the autop trans i fail at spelling bare with me) right after voke it may eat your shadow near the start but will save shadows later down the fight as well as give you some hate.
