I macro in + R.Acc gear (at least 2x best +1 rings for my level) for throwing and even still I saw the hit % drop dramatically on EXP party mobs. So I have changed I only use throwing on Even Match or Tough mobs when I solo.

if you are a lower level job and you want to throw... i have 1 piece of advice for you.

CAP YOUR THROWING AS YOU GO ALONG.

i didnt do that and at lv. 70, i spent 4 skill up pts (all 2-3 hours long) to cap throwing.
it takes a long long time. moblins almost went extinct because of it.

NIN only cost me like 600k to get from 21->37, and I sold about 450k back on AH, so money isn't really a problem.

If you can afford it, especially in the later dunes levels, USE SHURIKENS. They will help SO much when you don't have enfeebles, and keep helping. They have the damage of scythes and the delay of daggers, if you can afford them, USE THEM, they will help you so damn much.

Crafting skills are independent of your job. Also, the reason you're being interrupted so much with Ninjutsu skill 4 is just that - Your Ninjutsu skill is level 4. Magic skills affect interrupt rates.

            Truth.

I had a Jeuno mule that camped the Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno to buy stacks and stacks of Shurikens so that when I leveled NIN I'd have enough of them. Then again, it might be cheaper for you (server depending) if you can make them yourself. But I didn't have Smithing leveled, so it wasn't an option. Still! Not so bad in price at the Tenshodo. Just a really short supply.

              So if I don't throw I am a run-of-the-mill NIN? I am almost 60 now and I have
done fine without it. I was under the impression you need to get + ranged acc
equip and have a ton of money to throw shurikens and hold hate with it. I was
also under the impression that you can play Ninja in different ways and still be
good. I went with using enmity gear + dorado sushi + spinning the wheel.

Throwing shurikens just didn't seem economical to me. Granted I want to go back
and skill it up eventually, but really, I would rather skill it up when I am high level
on weaker mobs and in skill up parties. (I am going to have to clear my Senji and
              Heartsnatcher anyways)

In my opinion, yes, if you don't keep your throwing up you are a run-of-the-mill NIN. My opinion isn't fact, of course, but sometimes I feel it's necessary to make that clear to folks.

You're right. Throwing Shurikens isn't an economical way to play NIN. If you want NIN to cost less, by all means don't throw shurikens. Some NIN take it a step further and don't use Elemental Ninjitsu. I mean, that's not very economical either.

In the end, you can play NIN any way you choose. You're still going to get parties. I just know how I like to play NIN, and how I like others in my parties to play it.

"Average" and "run-of-the-mill" don't necessarily mean "bad." The average airline pilot gets all his or her passengers safely to their destination as close to the designated time as circumstances allow. Most ninjas don't use shurikens, which makes not throwing shurikens average and run-of-the-mill, by definition. A pilot that also does his best to make sure his passengers enjoy the flight, or a ninja that uses shurikens, would be "a cut above," also pretty much by definition. But it doesn't make the rest bad pilots or ninjas.

Sorry, I suppose I jumped to conclusions. I think that when the one guy said he never

"if you don't want to be an average run-of-the-mill ninja" it kind of gives it a negative

Well, I responded to him the way I did because I've found that many people take on a job without really caring to do it correctly (hence the "I'm sorry to hear that"). The more corners that they can cut, the better it seems. This is particularly prevalent in new and/or inexperienced players. But lazy vetrans are just as common sometimes.

I don't subscribe to the "corner cutting" mentality. I'm firmly in the "use every ability you have at your disposal" camp.

However, most NIN will be able to get by just fine doing the minimum. Since that doesn't appear likely to change any time soon, I doubt people will feel compelled to up the ante either.

Well, I just don't see not throwing shurikens as cutting corners. A stack of level 48
Manji Shurikens goes for about 190k on my server (not sure how much they are on
NPC or if you can buy from NPC). That seems really expensive to me when I could
land Elemental Ni nukes for around 80 damage each, at a fraction of the cost. (stacks
                          going for around 10-20k each)

Anyways, I will stop debating it now because I really need to go try out shurikens to
                          really get boths sides.

Well, by that logic everyone should nin/blm after 40 or 51, since elemental ninjitsu can deal damage and hold hate better than war sub, but you'd burn through millions of gil that way. It's just not efficient. Likewise, I think spending 400k to bring a couple stacks of manjis to a party with you would probably be a big waste, especially since most of them are going to whiff unless you're gear-swapping for ranged accuracy, which probably means some of your enmity and evasion equipment is getting macroed out half the time. I don't know if it's worth pursuing, especially if your gil flow is such that you're choosing between bolstering your equipment or throwing things.

For soloing or anything where you're fighting mobs in the EM-VT range they're golden. They doubled my damage output when I used them. Exp parties, especially if your group's fighting things above the bottom of the IT range, meh ...
