  • Hairpin and Boots!

Hihi everyone, I just started Ninja a bit ago, and got her to 20. I would really like to figure out the best way to get a hold of Emperor / Emperess Hairpin and Leaping / Bounding Boots (Boots more because they look cute). I've read that the NMs are spawned using Place Holder mobs. My questions are...

    1) Would you agree that this is true?

    2) If so, can you tell me exactly how this is done? (assume I'm completely navie about this subject....because I kinda am)

    3) How much time does it take for the NM to spawn after it's place holder dies?

    4) I'm currently a 36/18 white mage/ black mage, will I have any trouble with either of these NMs?

    5) Though my boyfriend still has to get a 30 weapon for any BCNMs, will I have an easier time farming in the BCNM or in the outside world?

Thank you so much in advance, I really love all the help I've gotten from this community already. ^^

    Which FF Character Are You?

    Re: Hairpin and Boots!

    1. Yes, its a lottery pop. Leaping Lizzy is a lottery pop of the lizards in South Gustaberg. Valkurm Emperor is a lottery pop from the flies near the west beach in Valkurm Dunes.
    2. Basically you just keep killing all the placeholders in the area until the NM spawns.
    3. Varies. Seen them repop after like 20 or 30 minutes. Seen Lizzy take 3 hours to pop. You never know with lottery pops.
    4. Won't have any trouble with Lizzy, VE could give you trouble. Really a crapshoot with that NM.

    somepage's links for both nm's
    Lizzy
    VE

EDIT: oh, not sure what you mean in #5.

Not sure what kind of stuff drops in BCNM30. I waited until 40 and did Royal Jellies. Great drop rate for both Utsu NI and Erase. Average about 1m a run, if not more. However, due to getting limited seals you will probably need to farm inbetween some to get you by b/w BCNM's.

I am no Ninja expert, but I would go after the hairpin first. Nothing better in that
slot from when you can wear it until you get to 70 in my opinion. So since it is so
good for so long, it seems very worth the time/effort to camp or farm money to buy.

The petrifing pair BCNM you need to get the non EX version is realy easy if you have the jobs needed to do it(war rdm and bst are all good with /nin) and its 3 people so its to get a run going when you have the seals and if you get a gunbelt it praticly pays for your hairpin (both 3mil on my server), but i havent heard much about the one for the hairpin. Personaly id rather farm the seals lvling bst then doing the bcnm hoping for the drop than camping the nm fighting for the claim and hoping it drops. Your only other alternitave is farming if you dont want to or cant camp the nm or do the BCNM, on average i can get 100k/hour and thats like 20 hours for the boots and 30 hours for the hairpin, i would chose this as my last option because farming bites >.>.

              Re: Hairpin and Boots!

In my experience is faster and more reliable to just farm the gil to get them, then if you wanna get the gil back just camp the NM or do the BC but they aren't that expensive really.

I'd be much more afraid of actually leveling NIN than about getting those two pieces of gear, Ninjutsu is just way too much gil down the drain, at least the pin and the boots will last you forever.

Edit> Having boots, pin and Nikkariaoe by lvl30 makes NIN really fun to play.

But I quit at lvl 37 because it was only a sub.

                Re: Hairpin and Boots!

I agree with the farming gil part. Especially for the boots there are alternative pieces that cost similar to leapings, like the 3% haste boots. I liked the haste boots, in theory it helps cut down utsusemi recast time. Altho only 3%, it still is cutting something.

                  Re: Hairpin and Boots!

Lizzy~ Can repop anywhere from 15min-2hr. Each lizard killed will repop in 2:10 vana'diel time (about 5min25sec RL). The easiest way to pop him is to kill all of the lizards at once with an AoE after training them, then wait 2:10 and watch as they all pop back. Widescan would be useful when doing this.

If others are running around killing the lizards, then you can't use that strategy. I'd suggest either roaming around the spawn area, shown on the somepage link, or get help from a friend and each of you stay put in strategic positions within the spawn area.

Emperor~ Can repop anywhere from 1hr-3hr (i've seen longer, but I believe that it was shortened to 3hr in an update). The repop time of the indiviual damselflies is the same as the lizards at Sgustaberg, 2:10 vana'diel time. As a Whm your best bet is probably to camp one particular area because VE's spawn area is massive. Having a Thf/Rng for assistance would be helpful because they can widescan to find it and flee to claim it. As a level 36Whm I'd again suggest finding help because only a few jobs can solo VE between 35 and 40 (Rng, Nin, Rdm, Blm, etc.) Generally high DD or versitile jobs which can tank effectively.

                    Re: Hairpin and Boots!

Okay thank you all so much hehe, farming for money probably won't work too well for me... since I haven't really found a great way to make a steady income... So I'll just have to keep trying my luck with the NM until I can do a BCNM

So if I AoE, all the lizards at the sametime, if Lizzy is going to pop that round, he'll pop with all the other lizards, or immediatly after I kill them?

not immediately. you have to wait until the lizard pops and hope it lotteries lizzy.

Respawns are pretty much 5 minutes even, give or take a few seconds to account for server lag. If you can sub ranger or beastmaster, you have some tricks up your sleeve with Wide Scan

                        Leaping Lizzy
There is a tall pillar at the top of a slope near the center of Lizzy's spawn area. On Wide Scan, there is a group of 5 lizards to the east of the pillar, and another group west of the pillar (this is assuming all lizards are currently alive). Of the 5 lizards to the east of the pillar, the bottom lizard on Wide Scan is the place holder (PH). You can kill that lizard, and only that lizard, and eventually Lizzy will pop. She'll pop either in the place of that PH, or she can also appear down with the 5 lizards to the west of the pillar.

                        Valkurm Emperor
In the spawn area for Emp., there is a group of snipper and a group of thread leeches on Wide Scan - and in between them is a group of 4 damselflies. The top fly is the PH for VE.

Lizzy is a horrible drop rate, i gave up on that after 0/7 my friend is 1/9 and another is 0/26 with treasure hunter 2. also for a few kills the 0/26 friend joined up with a few thfs over 45 to all try to get the boots....so yea...

im only taking nin to 37 for rdm sub, i have neither pin nor boots. i can see they would be a big help but im doing perfectly fine without them.

This is very true. Unknown to most, NMs have not all of the monsters, not 5, not 2, but ONE placeholder that can be found in a number of ways. Only that one has to be killed.
