  • How gimped is swords for nin?

So, I started lvling Nin, onw to 37 at least, but maybe further later on, and I'm using swords (because apparently I had used swords to get to 20 a long time ago). My kat skill is at 20, and my sword is capped from rdm.

Nin has C skill in sword and A- skill in katana. From my one experience last night, I don't think I did that bad, but I don't have anything to reference off of (I was hitting from 0-15 or so. It seemed like I was missing alot, but like I said I have no idea how much I'd miss with kat, but I'm imagining it would be significantly less).

So, what do you guys think? Is sword passable (they do seem to have better DOT stats) at C lvl, or should I really lvl kat, and if I should, where and how would you suggest doing that, because I've never seen anyone asking for a low lvl skillup pt.

I was thinking of just skilling up in pt, but I've got a long ways to go and don't know if I can do it.

I'm always of the opinion that a job should level it's A weapons before worrying about using anything else, but that's just me. Katana Weaponskills can be handy to have, and there are some pretty nifty Katanas out there later on (Nikkariaoe for instance). So it's in your best interests to keep that skill up to date.

Katana only gets better the higher you go. you really should keep your katana up. The bastok sword level 30 are probably the last sword worth using as nin imo.
Go skill up on worms around Qufim until 100 then you can probably hold 1 katana off hand in PT and let it skill up from there with some ACC food.

I can't solo the worms yet, but I like the offhand idea. I can probably find some easier mobs to get it to passable and then go with the offhand thing and acc food.

My plan is only to 37 currently, but I like the job and if I'm still playing the game later I'll definately take it to 75.

        txs for the replies guys.

Oh man, this caused all kinds of drama in the pt tonight. the war was like, "why are you using SWORDS. I thought we had a NIN for a second lol!!!" which pissed me off, and meanwhile she's going as war/nin with axe and sword (the sword because it "looks cool"). Then the thf badly needed to upgrade his sword and she wouldn't sell it even though she had another axe which she would do better with. So were going on about that and then she starts talking about me using swords and I should sell him one of mine because "you have two". I sort of lost my temper, called her a name, she left and we ended up with a total noob war.

Bleh. I hate drama and just don't want to deal with it, so I switched sub to whm and soloed worms for awhile. I'm pretty sure my skill is good enough to at least skill up while pting on crabs and pugils.

I'd avoid Pugs since the attack so fast, but worms are a good bet. I soloed on them as my NIN (on a previous character) with no problems at all.

In fact, I often soloed on my NIN during the pre-Kazham levels because it was easier and less stressful.

Soloing was awesome as Nin. I am officially excited for :Ni (it's bought and I carry it around with me). I can't wait to try out some cool soloing stuff with rdm/nin, but in the meantime I'm really enjoying Nin. It's 100% going to be my next job to 75.

Katanas are faster, and you get better WSs... besides, you can't say you wouldn't want to have Blade: Ku, just for the sake of it.

Pugils, worms, and 99% of the non-Beastmen, non-ToAU mobs attack at the same speed. The main exceptions are MNK mobs, probably NINs (haven't checked), Wanderers (Promyvion,) and Chigoes. Even Beastmen melees with dagger or axes (even WAR Fomors with Great Axes and DRK Fomors with scythes) all attack at 240 Delay/4 secs.

What is the point of responding to a thread if you're not even going to bother reading the OP? The question was very specific, which is why it was asked in the first place.

For some reason I thought Pugs were MNK type. You learn something new every day.

The only reason I know this is because I just fought some.

Pugs are War type, and have double attack which procs often.

Pugils suck anyway. Why people exp off of them before dispel is a mystery to me. They have a cone-AoE slow (NIN killer!), they have a powerful single hit WS, they can boost their defense and magic defense... Oh, and an AoE STR down/water damage move when most WHM's don't even know that there are elemental resistance spells... Why?

They don't have M.Def boost, they have Evasion Boost (in addition to Defense Boost.) Why? Because people are too stupid to actually go into Lower Delkfutt's Tower ;P
