  • The cost of Ninja.

Well since ninja is a DD/Tank i am going to level mine up. But from every one i talk to they say " OMFG you cant do it its expensive you farming your whole life!". Is it truly that expensive? I know i have to go farm ygg necklaces soon so i can get my scrolls... But will i really be putting really millions into items up into my 60's. I know end game gear for DD will be expensive, but how much money am i expecting to put into gear and tools. Last thread i had was Ninja as a dd vs pld as a dd and every one turned it into a flame war of which tanks better... So can i get one thing answered without everyone going insane?

I'll tell you this. NIN is hands down the most expensive job in the game. If you want to satisfy party members, you will have to keep updating your gear and tools. I myself don't know how much said tools cost, but they will cost you a pretty penny over the long run. So make sure you have a steady way of getting income before you take up this job.

All of your ninjitsu requires the use of a ninja tools that aren't exactly cheap (depending on which tool it is), and they are essentially like casting spells with gil, because they are a consumable resource.

Many of your spells are very expensive. Utsusemi: Ni (one of your most important spells after 37) is around 700k on Bahamut.

Also, if you intend to throw Shurikens at the mob, that's more gil you're throwing at it.

Finally, NIN gear isn't cheap. Yes, you can go cheap if you want to be kind of mediocre, but if you want to be the best, or at least pretty dang good, you have to spend a fair amount of gil to get the good NIN gear.

      So yeah, it's expensive.

        Re: The cost of Ninja.

The gear used is like any other job in terms of gear upkeep.
You camp empress hairpin and if you want bounding boots you can camp those too.

Where it kills your pocket are the consumables. For instance, say after lv. 60, whenever I went to XP I used about 3-4 stacks of shihei. 2/3 stack of powder for hojo and kurayami.

depending on prices, that's around 90-100k for 1 session. 1 session will net you more now since the new XP zones are great, but back then 1 session got me around 10k.

now if you buy elemental powders that'll run you an avg of 6-10k a stack. there's 6 kinds.

this is where you lose the gil cuz once you use it, its gone. other jobs have the luxury of not having to use consumables to just play their job but for nin and rng, this isnt possible.

Well, starting off Nin is fairly cheap. Unless you actually purchase utsusemi: ichi instead of questing for it that is. At that point it's still not too bad. From level 12-13, you'll probably use less than one stack of Shihei. However, as you gain levels and the exp required for the next level increases, you'll need more stacks of shihei/level. Not only that, but the other tools you begin to use for hate management after level 15.

My Nin is only level 40, but I've had a few occurances where I spent over 200k while on the way to a party (buying a full arsenal of new tools). I average between 2 and 3 stacks of shihei/level. A stack is 10k on my server, so 1 level is 20-30k. I also use about a 20% of each of my other tools per level. They vary in prices from 5k-30k. At that rate, all of the 'attack' tools are basically depleted after 4-5 levels. A full set of new tools+food= 200k.

            I didn't even mention equipment -_-.

So is it really that expensive? Chyea

If NIN is the first job you're taking to 75, it's going to be a long uphill road to get the gear and items that you need to do your job well. Not impossible, just tough.

But if you love the job, I'm sure it will all be worth it.^^

Lol, yes im trying to pick a class to take to 75 and ninja is the only Tank/DD I know of so only one i will probley be intrested in. If i can get help with empress hair pin my bounding, and all the ygg necklaces for the scroll quest i will be able to pull it off in a rough and painful path.

I plan on leveling NIN only up to 37 so I can sub it with RDM. Now from 1 to 37 what should I expect between those levels of how much gear, food and other things going to cost me?

Well, it definitely has it's bonuses in the long run. Nin is one of the most powerful jobs in the game. That being the reason why SE isn't even considering giving it anymore abilities for a long time. And on the other hand Nin is freakin' cool. :p ninftw

P.S: Seriously, how many jobs would be as effective as Nin could be with no sj?

Difficult to say without knowing the prices of tools on your server, but I'd imagine you spending on shihei like this.

                    Lv 12-15: 3 stacks total
                    Lv 15-20: between 6 and 8 stacks
                    Lv 20-30: around 20 stacks
                    Lv 30-37: around 20 stacks

At 10k a stack on my server, that'd be about 500k in shihei. The elemental tools may not be too important around those levels as holding hate isn't a priority. You'll probably have a back-up tank most of the time anyway until 37. You may want to spend on the debuffing tools as they generate a lot of enmity and are generally useful. Blind, Paralyze and Slow would do the trick. I'd suggest questing for them though because on seraph they're all 100k+.

gear up to 37 is similar to gear as war, if not the same.
well, less the axes with katanas.

then theres powder. shihei, depending on your servers prices. and enfeebles. the road to 37 isnt bad, and if you really wanted to, you can solo it.
